Seeing the state of this 504 I would say you are a brave man. Funny how the wedgy Lotus cars grow on you over the years-my Dad and I saw our first Elite here in Virginia in 1975 at the local dealer while getting parts for his Elan and it was a bridge too far for us at the time, just too different from the old school cars we loved at the time but I think they are very cool now. I wouldn't mind having one to go along with my own 69 Elan DHC-thanks for sharing
Our 76 Elite is a perfect mix of comfort and handling. Easy to get in and out of. Ample luggage space. Simple to drive. I drove ours around Watkins Glen and was impressed. In the 90s fellow Lotus owners explained that Elites and Eclats were passed up for a simple reason. Engine repairs. The cost for repairs of a 907 engine was very high and why not have an Esprit for the same engine costs. owners would rather invest in an Esprit if the operating costs were close to the same as an elite.
