i love his take on "those who follow the path of the righteous shall have their reward"... he's really the only Javert who takes in the direction of restrained conviction instead of strident, and I think this line really captures his take on it. my under appreciated fave.
What gets me is the wonder and awe in his voice on “stars, in your multitudes”. There’s that feeling of insignificance in a grander universe but also a security of knowing that there’s a place in it for you.
I’m so upset that I’m so late seeing this, Norm Lewis is my favorite actor on Broadway of all time! So many chills and tears omg, his voice makes my heart happy🥺💕
Thank you for posting this. Just had a random thought... In high school, my senior year a long time ago, I made it to the advanced French class. We spent the year reading Les Miserables in French. It was hard work that cliff notes were not helpful. As I watch and listen to Norm Lewis as Javert I realize one thing. His portrayal of Javert made him an actual human being. His voice alone, even his expression in the photo , make him a strong Javert.
I remember falling in love with Norm Lewis within the first 5 seconds of his appearance in the 25th anniversary. His whole manner struck me so much that I'm still obsessing over him years later. Welcome to the club!
@@adriannevincent5686 Yes, I think I had the same response in the same time frame. Norm Lewis is compelling. I used that word because I cannot watch one video and move on. I replay. And seek out more videos. Found his Sweeney Todd last night...
@@amyepstein4868 I didn’t know he did Sweeney Todd??? Definitely looking it up first thing in the morning. I’d give my left hand to get any recordings of him playing John from Miss Saigon, I mean.... It must have been spectacular
Am I the only one who wishes they'd cast him as Valjean instead? I don't know what it is, but something about his voice just makes "Who Am I?" seem a better showcase for it.
As a huge Alfie Boe fan I have to disagree! Plus Javert is meant to be dark-skinned in canon, as he's of gypsy ethnicity. And c'mon, Norm Lewis IS Javert, his whole vibe screams authority!
I LOVE HIS VOICE SO MUCH. his delivery though leave much to be desired :( Its like watching the hottest pornstar on earth do her thing but she only does missionary. Ok after typing that I am sure there is a better analogy in there somewhere but you get my drift.
I looove Norm Lewis. By far the best Javert
same here!!!
Duncan What about Philip Quast or Roger Allam?
@@rosetree07 Yep, also great, but everyone's got a favourite right?
Love him too, and by all means, you may prefer him over others, but i'm really not sure if he's best "by far."
Adrianne Vincent Right
I really like the way he portrays Javert's emotions through the way he sings this.
Yes !!
He really is the best

After listening to different versions of this song, I still come back to Norm. He's my fav Javert!
Seen him in London, was magnificent ❤️❤️❤️ feel blessed xxx

@@adriannevincent5686 I found out 2 days ago. I was looking up Sweeney Todd and found out he was in the 2017 off Broadway production.
Fantastic. I keep coming back to this performance.
I watched this in theater and bawled my eyes out. Best Javert.
2 phantoms in the same concert was perfect
I don't care what anyone says, he KILLED it.
too sexy. you wanna be caught.
Would Norm Lewis make a good Judge Frollo?
How could he *not* make a good Claude Frollo?
I would love to hear him sing Hellfire
@@lizziewilson6707 As would I. One of the best singers I've heard singing hands-down my favorite musical song? *COUNT ME IN*
Absolutely
Hell. Yes. Gimme. XD
THANK YOU. This is one of the only good performances of this song I’ve heard.
Philip quast also great performance
Amazing!

Great !!
I can finally listen to this on TH-cam 😭🥺
Norm Lewis.. I think he is the most suitable human for Javert
WOW!

man, you could cast in anything and he'd be perfect lmfao
But I _would_ love to see him sing Who Am I 👀
So sad Norm's version has less views than Russell Crowe's
DAMN
This is the french version of Wait for it
Him and Quast best Javert.
I actually like Lewis' interpretation better than Quast's. He doesn't have that nasal tone, and I feel like there's more conviction here.
Belos from The owl house animatic when?
Norm is amazing, but come on, guys, my boy Philip Quast simply IS Javert. There will never be a better version than him
GREAT SINGER!... Norm Lewis is my favorite of all time! This is just a terrible recording... music is not loud enough. :(

Man what the actual hell
Russell Crowe sang this song better
Crowe sounded like he was bored and just waiting for his paycheck
