He became very good friends with Alfie Boe who taught him a ton. You can google a bunch of their videos together, including a very fun rendition of He Ain't Heavy (He's my Brother). Bromance for the ages!
Watching this always brings back memories of seeing this company live! The cheer when Matt Lucas came on is one of the big things that has stayed with me
What I hate about this is that it’s a harsh reminder of how much Hollywood messed up the film he should have been in the film I think his performances in the arena anniversary are spectacular
agreed. There were a couple of things to enjoy about the movie version, but seeing something FAR superior, and imagining what could have been is torture.
I remember a different version of this song. The Vicar of St Martin's Church in Knowle in Bristol. Was the Master of the House with his wife. That was unique. Cracked me up completely! That was a decade ago!
I saw Matt Lucas playing Leigh Bowery in the Boy George musical Taboo. He was fabulous!! He's a great character performer. The Dream Cast 10th Anniversary Concert was brilliant too.
Matt Lucas is the only Thenardier as good as Alun Armstrong, in my opinion! Doesn’t surprise me he’s been asked to reprise his role a few times after the O2 Concert.
This is a good performance but is it just me that finds it lacking in comparison to his performance in the 25th Anniversary performance (2010)? This isn't in regards to acting choices, I like the various differences and how he separates each version of Thenardier, but in terms of the singing I think it's a little bit of a downgrade, with all due respect.
Donald and Melania Trump need to sing this duet. Either that or next time anyone performs this song, they need to do so while dressed up like Donald and Melania.
Love Matt but he is not as good as Alun Armstrong in this role. The make up also lets him down, looks like he's just got out of the shower, much too clean looking for this part whereas Alun looks so filthy you can almost smell him.
I was in the audience here... these two would legit HIJACK the stage whenever they were on....
Agreed! They were absolutely incredible!
My favourite song in the entire musical, it's the most upbeat, despite the sinister, clearly up to no good, lyrics!
This song is my 3d favorite
Same here~
I think it's the reason people go to see Les Miz.
That’s the greatness of musical theatre
Matt Lucas is great, I loved him in Wonka and Les miserables
Matt Lucas is priceless here ❤
Matt Lucas is absolutely amazing in this role. What a fabulous selection. He put the work in and it paid off. Great rendition xx
Wow!...Matt Lucus...absolutely brilliant..😮...didn't realise he could sing ..blown away..😃😊😀🤓👍
How quickly his Lockdown classic "Thank You Baked Potato" has been forgotten... 😞
He became very good friends with Alfie Boe who taught him a ton. You can google a bunch of their videos together, including a very fun rendition of He Ain't Heavy (He's my Brother). Bromance for the ages!
You should see him way way back. Such a great guy
It's amazing how this song never fails to get everyone smiling, clapping along, and you can tell even the cast is having a ton of fun with it.
Of all the Tenardiers I've seen, Matt Lucas is my favorite 🙂👍
Kidding? Have you seen Alun Armstrong ??
One of my favourites, after the best, Alun Armstrong
Alun Armstrong will never be beaten
I love Armstrong, however I did find Lucas’ delivery of the lyrics easier to understand. They’re both awesome on different levels. 😊
Watching this always brings back memories of seeing this company live! The cheer when Matt Lucas came on is one of the big things that has stayed with me
He's amazing. From "I'm the only gay in the village" (Little Britain) to the villain Thenardier.
He's fabulous!
and Vicki Pollard!!! 'yeah, but no, but yeah, but no..." hahahah
From a baby to Thenardier. We remember George Dawes
Wow! This is ****** impressive. I didn’t realise he was so good! ML is a very rare talent. ❤
hes the best, so fun and energetic!
I saw him in person, he’s so talented !
What I hate about this is that it’s a harsh reminder of how much Hollywood messed up the film he should have been in the film I think his performances in the arena anniversary are spectacular
Hollywood version is horrible
agreed. There were a couple of things to enjoy about the movie version, but seeing something FAR superior, and imagining what could have been is torture.
Totally agree. The film Thénardiers were woefully miscast, especially SBC. Matt would have been a much better choice!
Pox-ridden Trollope - absolutely brilliant 🤣🤣
Absolute perfect casting!
He set the song to such a high standard, it will be hard to beat🎉😂😂😂😂😂
I liked his entrance at the 25th anniversary better -- the cocky walk was perfect, even though this is more produced.
Matt Lucas - genius!
Absolutely brilliant ❤👍👍👍👍
Nah he's absolutely fabulous WHATTT
Hope Matt gets the Thénardier part in the arena spectacular later this year.
Thankfully he didn’t.
The happiest song in Les Mis is about a conman whose wife despises him.
Can you please remind me what the name of the play is?
That kind of thing was supposed to be expected.
True. Huh. That sounds familiar. Ah...The greatest art can be reintepreted through the ages. This could be redone with tRump and Melania!
Bravo awesome music and singing
Nailed it!!!
Great job for sure
This is my favorite version of master of house
Playing Mr Thernadier at the moment, and i'm really inspired by Matt Lucas!!!
yo thats actually fire
I'm gonna see this in Sweden in 2 days, can't wait!
This is brilliant 🎉🎉
I remember a different version of this song. The Vicar of St Martin's Church in Knowle in Bristol. Was the Master of the House with his wife. That was unique. Cracked me up completely! That was a decade ago!
Now much more than that!
Philip Quast and now Bradley Jaden are my favourites! Bradley Jaden was sensational in the Arena Tour!
I saw Matt Lucas playing Leigh Bowery in the Boy George musical Taboo. He was fabulous!! He's a great character performer. The Dream Cast 10th Anniversary Concert was brilliant too.
他的舞台表现力是真的强!
Beautiful edit. Thank you!
I generally dislike Matt Lucas, but here he’s in his perfect role. Couldn’t be better!
Brilliantly 🎼👏👏👏.
I actually tried out for Les Mis my senior year of high school.
Didn't even make callbacks.
and I liked Matt Lucas before I knew who he was..a Glorious comedian..😊
"Pipe down chorus boy!"
George!.....
I think Matt Lucas sings very good and my mom agrees
It's growing on me!
I saw this on PBS station during COVID
Briiliant
Matt Lucas is the only Thenardier as good as Alun Armstrong, in my opinion! Doesn’t surprise me he’s been asked to reprise his role a few times after the O2 Concert.
My niece in her musical theatre was a fabulous Thenardier
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼💜💙💜
Nothing beats the 10th anniversary cast
Omg 😳😳 searching 🔎 🔎 🎉🎉🎉
When I see Katy Secombe bullying Cosette, I see her dad Harry Secombe bullying Oliver Twist - "Whaaaaaat? *MORE?!!!"*
A real chip off her dad's block.
I just love Matt Lucas what ia he doing now?
had a small-ish part in Wonka in 2023, looks like he wrote a book this year
The original is always the best.
I can only stand this guy if he sings
Matt Lucas does a good impression of Boris Johnson
Alun Armstrong is the only one!
Yes he is god in the role 🙏
This is a good performance but is it just me that finds it lacking in comparison to his performance in the 25th Anniversary performance (2010)? This isn't in regards to acting choices, I like the various differences and how he separates each version of Thenardier, but in terms of the singing I think it's a little bit of a downgrade, with all due respect.
Alun is the GOAT!
Alun so much better.
NARDOLE CAN SING?
Donald and Melania Trump need to sing this duet. Either that or next time anyone performs this song, they need to do so while dressed up like Donald and Melania.
Alan Armstrong was the original Landlord. He was by far the best of them all.
PEANUTS!
It's Mrs Patmore if she'd actually married Joss Tufton and they moved to France.
Alun Armstrong is still the best!
Love Matt but he is not as good as Alun Armstrong in this role. The make up also lets him down, looks like he's just got out of the shower, much too clean looking for this part whereas Alun looks so filthy you can almost smell him.
Agree, he's kinda polished here but in some other performances I've seen him much filthier- make up I mean
the 10th anniversary stage show is much better
Not a patch on Alun Armstrong or his other half.
He was good… but Alun was better
By a whisker!
Great, but nothing on Alun Armstrong...his version is 10x beyond
Loved Sasha Cohn better he was a master in the film 🥰
Alun Armstrong was the best in the 10th anniversary concert. This guy comes nowhere near.
I'm not sure of that! I think that Matt Lucas is moderately one up on Alun Armstrong - again like with Colm Wilkinson and Alfie Boe - narrowly!
So affectation, alun is better then 100%,this is not talk show, the part of singing is so poor.
He’s good.. ….. but… he’s not Alun Armstrong
As a child I would ask my mother why they kept blasphemed Jesus's name..she said..that's when you forget God
Should have done it in blackface tbh
Mmm...not sure about the needless add ons...smacks of a performer who is unconfident with the material. Just opinion.
Not for me 🤮🤮🤮
Not as good as the George Costanza/Jason Alexander version.
Little Britain, soo funny and brilliant. Couldn't care less about the PC brigade. Matt Lucas so talented, especially voices, accents.
Do not like
