From head in the clouds to toes in the sand, Maui has it all. Taking the Phantom 2 with Zunmuse H3-2D gimbal and a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition with me has became almost as habitual as my wallet and cellphone, and I can't wait for more adventures to capture Maui from the sky. In this adventure I chased my truck with the Phantom while my buddies drove it. The first flight is in PoliPoli, about 7000ft above sea level where there is an awesome disc golf course, then we worked our way down the mountain through the sugar cane fields. The ocean-side flights were at La Perouse, the southern most tip reachable by normal traffic on this side of the island. Did a fly by with some of our friends who were paddleboarding, then it was back to town through the lava fields. I did have one close call where I swiped a tall bush with the phantom at full speed, luckily I only smacked the gimbal and not any of the props so came away unscathed. Then I lost it in the clouds and trees and VERY luckily spotted it and was able to bring it in right before the battery died. Great time by all :)

I would think so. Not loud but loud enough to spook them. Plus very hard to see them with FPV. they are brown, same color of the woods
I got alot of wheat fields I'd use them to scan the field to see what the best way to approach the fields would be there's actually video on youtube of people doing the same pretty cool

Your flying skills are so good because as the Phantom is following you ( when you are seated in the pick-up ) ALL is reversed and that is so disorientating,hats off my friend.

So, I was going back and rewatching your videos and I was wondering if you have ever thought about flying out over top of some of the active lava flows.
Hell yeah I have, unfortunately the only active lava out here is on the Big Island, but rest assured when I get there I'll have the Phantom and GoPro right by my side!!

Great stuff. Awaiting delivering of my Phantom 2. For your driving shots how did you "retrieve" your drone as obviously your "home" was no longer valid. Did you just stop it and then manually bring it down to you?

Not very bad at all. Start out in a big open field with no hazards and take it nice and slow, in no time you'll be threading needles with it!! Here's where I got mine from ow.ly/ujYtQ comes with the gimbal and is pretty much ready to fly!

One question though how do you suppress the sound of the Phantom in favour of your voice?
It was not powered up when I was talking, it's nearly impossible to get any audio when the props are turning. Good timing is all I used :)

Awesome flight!! Looks so fun lol. I just picked up a phantom 2 with the gimble h4-3d , I haven't flown it yet because Im in Montreal and its freezing still , but Im getting it ready , My question is about the gimble, does it turn right to left or is it supposed to stay centered and only go up and down? Im guessing the view point is out of the front of the drone or do i have a connection problem , I got the drone used . I mean if the go pro is in the front and shooting out words guess it would make sense that it dosnt pivot left to right ? lol I know its a novice question but definitely inspired by your flying and camera work so please let me know , cheers!

Nice video. I've been thinking about getting a phantom 2 but I've heard a lot of horror stories about fly aways. Any thoughts? I'd hate to lose my gear...
I've been flying Phantoms (a lot) for running on a year now and have never had any issues with transmitter/controller issues of any kind. I'd imagine most of those stories might come from it going out of range or losing sight of it? Even turning the controller off in the middle of the flight, it just comes back and lands itself where you took off from. Anyway, if it helps they have always flown perfect for me, more than I can say for other RC stuff I've had. Here's where I got mine from ow.ly/ujYtQ

love that video, on a scale 1-10 how scare were you to fly this and worry about it crashing and losing $1k? I used to have a AR drone 2.0 it was hard to control and reception suck and slightly bit of wind it will go out of control and fly sideway to smack the nearby tree/building. I see lot of good review on the DJI P2 thinking of giving it a shot
I was at about a 12 :) I had an AR drone 2.0 a few years ago as well and had the same problems, it was useless in any wind at all and only went maybe 150ft. I've flown the P2 in 30+mph winds and over 1000ft away with FPV and it's stable as a rock. The only way this thing is crashing is user error or some crazy fluke. Here's where I got mine. ow.ly/ujYtQ

another question, if you were to go out of country for a let's say one week trip (oversea by plane) do you think you would bring this along with you? i saw your website you have it tied up on your backpack make it look easy to carry around.
I am planning to get a drone to capture family trip video so I don't have to walk so much and be able to capture video at a impossible angle...
but my biggest worry is that it might upset a lot of people. I saw some other youtuber had their drone shot down by cop -__-
brabusx2 I had a friend ship his out here, if you pack it right it can go anywhere. You might want to break it down a bit (remove landing gear, props, etc) or they sell really awesome cases of all varieties as well. Some people of course are not happy about drones flying around, but flying responsibly and not aggravating people is fairly easy, especially if you're mobile like in this video!! Haha :)

Ýes on the back of the remote is a thing to adjust the vertical movements of the gimbal
Hi EpiCapture! How do you travel with your Phantom? I'm traveling by airplane and I wonder if I need to have a case for my Phantom. It will be in my hand luggage so is it okay to pull everything apart and reassemble it when arriving?
It's not terribly difficult to disassemble the Phantom, and definitely recommended for flights I would think. They do sell badass cases but I havent gotten one yet, as long as you remember how to put it back together you'll be fine!!

Maybe you shouldn't. With superview you only get extra view on the top and on the buttom, and that's why you get those (in my opinion) anoying propellors in your shot. :/
Jeroen I feel ya, it is a lot easier to catch the props in the frame when in SuperView but it does have benefits for larger field of view when you're really high up. It's quite easy to keep the props out of the frame for the good vids by focusing on where the camera is pointed, how far you're tilted forward etc, I wasn't worried about it on this video though, I was just throwing it around to see what it could do. I do mostly stick with Wide FOV though, but it never hurts to try somethin new!
how fast does it go horizontally?
I'm guessing full throttle around 22-25+ depending on the wind. With a strong tailwind you can haul serious ass.
haha well damn 25 is too little though :( I was hoping to have it follow me around with the follow feature when some rides on a motorcycle or something
you might get lucky and get 30-35 on a still day or faster with a tailwind, but you might as well just get a plane if you're trying to go much faster than that
i guess but i want a quadrocopter though haha they're so cool....i could use them for other stuff too

FPV is great for all kinds of stuff and we use ours regularly, but sometimes it's fun to fly by eye, more challenging :) Thanks for watching!!
