This is by far the best version of this song: vocal dynamics are through the roof, her vocal weight fluctuates extremely well, her acrobatic riffs and melismas are akin to an Olympic gymnast, the way she spins notes are zephyr-like and she exhibits the best control on this performance... possibly because she suffered stage fright at this period in her career and this was the last number of the show, allowing her to just let loose and leave everything on the stage. Regardless, in my opinion, this marked one of the best live vocal concert recordings in history.

This -- the MTV Unplugged concert -- may be the single greatest live pop performance ever. Amazing! IMO this is Mariah's absolute peak as a singer/performer.
The 90s was a really special time to be coming of age. We had both Mariah and Whitney who were very vital parts of that fabric. Thank you to these incredible women who wrote the sountrack to many of our lives in that era.

So many things to admire about Mariah Carey. The first is her song-writing. The words she produces are so touching and profound. Then comes the powerful singing voice and afterwards, her performances. So confident and in command back in her heyday. Beautiful song.

@@vanshmishra7119 when we say powerful it doesn't describe the tone. It describes breath support, technique, and proper belting. But tone in the other hand is something intrinsic to her. Therefore we can describe her voice as powerful and magical at the same time.

I'm not sure she wrote her own music in the beginning. I think that was the issue. She burned out because she was constantly singing to meet contractual demands as I understand it, but she wanted to sing something more 'fun' with a hip hop or pop edge. She fought to take control of her career.
Here after Kelly Price, Mariah’s, back ground singer at the time mentioning that Mariah had an encore performance that wasn’t planned. No rehearsal for this particular performance of Can’t let go. I remember my moms and I watching this whole preference with popcorn 🍿 in hand. It was amazing to watch. That girl really is a talent💯

I think Adele is an ok singer and artist but I dont really listen to her music and I feel like nowadays there aren't as many great singers whose music is based on having a great voice and people listen to Adele and buy her music b/c there really aren't that many mainstream artists with a Mariah, Whitney or Celine voice. For Mariah to have the biggest sales and career of anyone during that time when there were so many other great vocalists really speaks volumes to the talent that she is.

Mariah had one of the better, if not the best, MTV Unplugged shows. She had a lot to prove in the wake of Milli Vanilli and her lack of concert tours after two albums which was unheard of at the time. She was said to be a studio creation reliant on technical help for her sound. Mariah came through and silenced the critics.
