Three Quick & Easy Tripwire Alarms For Your Campsite

  • Campsite security is a critical survival component that I used to overlook. As time progressed, I saw the absolute need for strong perimeter security, whether it's a true SHTF situation or a just a hiking trip to the backcountry.
    After choosing a campsite, take a bit of time to patrol and secure the perimeter. It doesn't have to be complicated, it can be simple and easy with a simple deadfall trap or e alarm connected with fishing line or snare wire.
    The options abound for tripwire alarms, ranging from air horns, mouse traps and more. Have fun with it, get out in nature, experiment and find what works best for you.
    Then kick back and chill, knowing any apex predators strolling into your campsite will trip your alarms, giving you enough time to react to the potential threat.

    It is important to use different trip alarms with distinct sounds. This way you know which direction it came from.

      Maybe something you can hear and be warned but not whoever trip that alarm. If you know they are coming but they don't know that you know is probably the best. It gives you time to prepare response or exfil if is to many of them.

      @@Casper1907they make window alarms for deaf people. A light turns on instead of a loud noise. That would be perfect for what your suggesting 💯

    My favorite alarm is the clip on bells sold for clipping onto fishing poles.
    They are small and packable for travel. Metal, they are paintable to whatever color you need.

    Nicely done!👍 I have the same setup with the alarm and spider wire. For myself security is everything in a shtf situation or get home. Even camping I’m always checking. Don’t need some junkies walking in.😂🍻

    When I used to stay in motels I would stack up pots and pans and bottles in front of the door.. Door opens and clang bang crash, I'm awake. You could do the same with a trip wire and tin cans at a campsite.

    Maybe stress the importance of placing your noise maker as close to your camp as possible so your more likely to hear it, plus the ease of resetting the trap if needed. Cool video.

    Yeah I don't recommend tripwires. Any evasion situation. I recommend glue sticks. You can make them thin as a human hair. Or thick as a fishing line. You can put them all over your campsite. With one glue stick you can make about 50 lines. You got to cut the glue stick into Little triangle pieces and then Mount one end to the branch to the other. Always like the glue stick separately and then melt them onto branches and stretch them to about 5 to 10 ft. Nothing beats it. I could string one up in about 5 minutes 50 perimeter line. And then I'll know if someone's been in my campsite or trailing behind me and I can leave them astray. Practice with a glue gun. It's safer. Only a very experienced tracker would ever be able to notice anything. Good luck on your video

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSurvivalOutpost yeah the guy who taught me this stuff. With the glue sticks. Didn't want me talking about it. You could use glue sticks against intrusions . On doors. By making small spider webs. Another extra layer of protection. They can be put on Windows. Hundreds of different uses. I'm trying to make videos on this. Good luck with your videos

      You are pretty good at bullsh!ting people huh. I'm surprised nobody has called you on that sh!t in 3 years 💯 your "tip" sounds like a 12 yr old boyscout had a fever dream and wrote it down when he woke up. I'm sorry but I've been into this sh!t for years and years and all my life basically. I use glue stix for every survival hack, tip, trick, pointer, bushcrafting in a pinch type sh!t you could think of (🤔 well maybe not that YOU could think of as yours is a pretty advanced imagination clearly) and if you can stretch a gluestick 5-10feet as thin as a hair, then your the official badass mf of the woods, forests, jungles, swamplands, hell your the glue stick guru. Making "spider webs" and whatnot 🙄 I'll play hide and seek with you any day my friend. You bring your glue stix. And I'll bring my little trip/trap kit and I bet not only can I track you down every time, stalk right into your campsite, grab a bite to eat from your cooler, but also I bet you cannot do the same thing to me.
      Btw you know those little UV flashlights that make pet p!ss glow when you shine it on the carpet? It'll also turn your "glue sticks spiderwebs" into glow in the dark silly string without it even having a good battery in it, from across the whole forest. Just sayin

    Going backcountry camping in a few weeks and thought I'd check what others are doing in this regard. For the reasonably forest-savvy, skip the intro material and go to 6:00. But after watching thru, I wouldn't use any of the three methods he used. One was overkill, the next two not loud enought to wake me, and im a light sleeper. Instead I would rig a noise-maker right next to my head for mainly when Im sleeping. Fishing line and a bell of some kind, or can full of pebbles as one commenter suggested.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great suggestion, I've tried out the can + pebbles option, however in this video I was focused on using natural materials. Maybe there is a rusted can I luck out and find, but usually there is no trash around I can use and I don't pack cans in my gearset

    Stay off of game trails, nesting sites and anywhere animal leavings are, indicating predators frequent the area. Keep in mind, other critters are gonna come to drink too, if you shack-up near water. Perimeter alarms/early warning is a good idea, along with a means of self-protection.

Also cans and bottles reflect light so when you place traps keep in mind there purpose is to be hidden . For me the clapper has no body signature and neither dose the small noise maker. 12 gauge perimeter alarms which use blank 12 gauge shells are a great way to secure your camp. These alarms can be converted to use real shotshells by attaching a 3"-4" piece of steel or plastic pipe, however lethal boobytraps are highly illegal and just having a piece of pipe stored with an alarm is illegal - called constructive possession. Also, you might accidentally shoot yourself, your wife, a child, an innocent neighbor, or your dog. It isn't worth the risk of hard time or accidental injury/fatality unless the world has gone totally Mad Max. Prepping is about increasing your chances, not putting yourself at risk.

    The electric alarm and other similar store bought types are cheap enough that it's worth haveing several on hand..if resorting to primitive alarms I would prefer the split stick clapper and the deadfall would come in as a last resort with nothing else availiable, regardless of methods used, I prefer to set up an outside perimeter as you say and another closer in also...anyway good video man, first time I've seen that clapper stick alarm, thanks for the content.

      @@TheSurvivalOutpost no but seriously here in Michigan you got to worry about that kind of stuff. A bear very well could end up in your camp otherwise!

    Seriously, who trap tents in Florida? The bugs are wicked.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost

      Depends on the area. I setup in an open area close by the water. Gets lots of ventilation so that helps. But yeah gotta have bug spray always

      Crush and scrub pine needles on you for bug deterrent, and not always but typically after 11ish till about 4am they don't bother you as much. There are many other natural bug deterrents out there also, just research them.

      Jj I'm a fifth generation Floridian and have been camping all of my life in Florida & yes misquito and sand gnats in the summer only are fierce.we are somewhat use to them and crop some beauty berry and wax myrtle leaves if you want and put in a little water,be sure to crush and rub the leaves(makes great natural bug repellant )which contains natural deet, just rub on skin.happy camping and stay safe.
