They did release a screenshot of the new inventory management for Suikoden 1, but it's not enough to really tell how it functions. But at first glance it does look improved over the original.
The original translation was a mess with errors, mistakes, and mistranslations. They already confirmed in the initial reveal at the 2022 TGS that the game is getting a new translation to bring it closer in line with the Japanese version. Whether things have changed since then, I don't know. But we may find out more next week at this years TGS presentation.
Just look at the archers still looking on the left side instead of looking forward during battle, do the devs intent not to fix this? 🤨. Well love the added running feature in Suikoden 1 👍.

Except there's a big difference between Suikoden and Final Fantasy. Suikoden is a fairly easy game. It's never been a challenging series and there are no ball breaking bosses that can wipe the party in one shot.
But… why ruin the beautiful UI of the original game??? The level ups used to be so much fun to watch! And the Suikoden font was such a signature of Suikoden! Now the menus look so static, like they are from RPG Maker…😢
Please look up some old gameplay. It may not be as good looking as you remember. The windows are very basic, the font is very pixelated and sometimes hard to read, and the text had odd spacing and font sizing. This looks clean. It’s not as unique, but it will appeal more to a modern audience.
I do agree that the new ui has lost a lot of charm of the original, but this new ui is so much cleaner and solves a lot of issues that Jimmy mentioned. I hope the old ui is available as an option for people that prefer it over the new one.
@@AngryCosmonaut I have a screenshot of the new Suikoden 1 inventory ui on twitter. It looks a lot cleaner and less messy, but we won't know for sure until we see it in action
After comparing it to the original game's UI some more, I'm actually really preferring the newer one. With the menu commands being shifted to the side, it's no longer at risk of covering up a third of the enemy party, so we get a much better view of the battlefield. And I'd argue the party window had a great change over the original. Character portraits, their locations in the formation, and the little white pips for rune uses you have left give a good amount of information without using up too much space. And even simply having the windows colored with their unique border makes this more unique than the static window of 6 names and their HP values in the original. One thing I do hope for is that they go the extra mile and give us the ability to change the battle UI around with window sets from Window and Tenkou.
The sprites are probably the one thing they'd face absolute outrage about if they messed them up. I think they made the right call leaving them untouched. They're perfect as they are.
