You know, one of the things I found interesting about Warcraft 1 Catapults (besides being a war crime with the damage they cause) is that they will refuse to fire if they know they'll hit a friendly unit. In every RTS I've played, ever they're the only artillery unit that doesn't do friendly fire when left to their own devices. This is also probably what makes them so effective at destroying armies; they pick the target that isn't surrounded by friendly soldiers.
I remember when I was a kid, I felt so accomplished just by marching groups of archers and conjurers across the map, four at a time, and killing most orcs without taking damage. It took forever because I’d only move a few squares at a time, but it let me focus eight archers on a target and eliminate them before they could get in melee range. In a game where you could only control four units at a time, it felt like a “big brain” strategy to my dumb preteen self.
I finished the game without knowing you could select four units by pressing control... Since I came from dune 2, it didn't shocked me but when I discorded it years later... I felt foolish...
It still greatly disappoints me that for this remaster, they couldn't be bothered to have the animations on the briefing screens, the map screen animation, or the animated victory results screen. They even culled out animated screens from War2 because I watched some of the other videos and saw the score screens are completely static. They may not have screwed up nearly as badly as they did for War3, but it's still pretty clear that they were still cutting corners and pinching pennies. As it turns out I learned *today* that the gog versions just got delisted. Way to go Blizzard. That company is so unbelievably stupid, they *still made money off of them*.
Not sure if you've heard, but the originals (1 and 2) are getting pulled from GOG on 13 December (2024, in case someone from the future reads this). Everyone who buys/has bought the game before that date will still keep access to it and GOG promises to continue updating it as part of their preservation program even without them being no longer on their storefront. Side note: I'm actually here to figure out if I should buy it (never played anything from Blizzard before). And this is after SEGA announced the delisting of their "Classics" titles from Steam (you still have time until 6 Dec).
@@SealCorner Oh, buy these classics - just know that this remaster of Warcraft 1 includes some "quality of life" improvements, without which original was hard to enjoy by modern standards :) WC2 though is perfectly fine in it's original form :) Of course, if you haven't played anything Blizzard yet - go and buy their only really good remaster, Starcraft - for single player it's their second best game ever in my opinion, after Warcraft 3, and for multiplayer it's unmatched, and remaster really did justice to that old game.
Still funny that there's only two voicelines for human units acknowledging orders. I'd imagine they'd port over WC2 footman's 'Yes' voicelines for WC1 remaster so that the voicelines would be more diverse. But that's asking too much, isn't it.
They could have at least changed it so that they only say something once every 3 or so clicks when you give them orders like Warcraft 3 not EVERY SINGLE TIME, god that was annoying with this and Warcraft 2
Catapults are much better when you don't tell them to attack something. They will not engage in friendly fire unless you move a unit in the radius after they've fired.
is the difficulty a little higher for the remaster. the game became easy enough with primitive controls, with more modern controls I have to imagine this is pretty easy.
24:50 The knight luring in the enemy army synchronized with the positioning of the freshly produced catapult - what virtuosity!!
Good old artillery experience, so satisfying to watch when you do it.
Yes my lord.
Ahh, the voicelines... so many memories lol, another great speedrun. I love how you take the time to explain things for new people in your vids too.
And text explanation. Even better!

Wh-Wh-Wh-What do you Want? Wh-Wh-Wh-What do you Want? Wh-Wh-Wh-What do you Want? Why do you Keep Touching Me? (lol)
Dabu dabuuuuu!
44:00 bro destroyed the own barracks but beggins explain why scout the area and do friendly fire on the Knight 💀
Stu would throw away hundreds of lives to win and we love them for it
Catapults are absolutely brutal in this game..
Another excellent run

I just love how the human death sounds like the gargling down some water
In resumee "My Lord ? Yes Yes Yes My Lord ? Yes Yes Your will Sire ? Yes Yes"
Soooo fast... Nice gameplay !

Yeah, especially now that you can order 'move' command with a right click in WC1 remaster.
The good times ❤ thanks for this
Good speedrun Stu
Yes, yes, yes my lord, your bidding, your command...
Yes my Lord! Yes!
The nice thing about Wc1 is that it has non trainable monsters and "bosses" that spices things up. Wc2 has very little of that.
54:45 - Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Video of "Beyond the Dark Portal" is coming?
Yes, yes, yes, yes MY LORD
0:14 The knights of whaaaaaaat!?
Stormwind
I thought that catapults sucked when I was a kid because I kept killing myself with friendly fire!

No victory or lore animation in the remaster sucks
They does not have enough bytes to cater those animation.😂😂
Maybe in a later update?
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
There is no option to rewatch the introduction ! 🤣
yep I had to delete my files to record it xD
Go! GO! GO :D
1st love this keep up the good work
31:18 all of WarCraft 3 just changed for the worst
Yeah this is why we can’t use far sight in caves for certain orc missions or tyrande’s owl in certain missions
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Abahahhaha it does get really annoying
What is a Stormwind soldiers favourite band?.... Yes
Atta boy Stu
Remastered version is much easier than the original.
All the hotkeys and extra selections.
yes I wish they had added a hard difficulty or some other new content

Yes, the game is fairly easy now unfortunately. I wish they at least added some extra content where they could have upped the challenge a bit.
Warcraft 1 is good. But WC2 is the best of the three
Prefer human to orc due to their healing ability and archer range.
An artificially upscaled intro? What, they couldn't afford to remake it using some quickly slapped together 3D models?
imba catapult
So, they just slapped hd grafics on top of old game?
CnC did it better!
Kinda too late but ok
W2 expansion campaigns when
These graphics look terrible compared to the original.
