A.Scriabin: Fantasie in B minor, Op.28 (Yoonji Kim)

  • Literally didn't know this epic piece existed until a month ago. Similar vibes to Scriabin's piano concerto (except this fantasy is way more wild and ambitious). Opening is very similar to his 3rd/4th sonata, where he tries everything to avoid stating the tonic (mysterious effect). The climax and the buildups are very Liszt-like (heavy, lower octaves of bass, lots of huge leaps and two/three note accompaniment in between the melody octave)
    Favorite moments:
    1:46, really reminds of me of the 3rd mvmt of Scriabin's piano sonata, (the right hand double voicing at 2:02 is too good)
    The buildup starting from 4:25 to the climax at 5:13 is insane
    7:42: reminiscence of 1:46, really nice sequential harmony and at 8:07, the voicing here is so lovely. (like a 2-part canon)
