seflw9 I’ve really tried getting into twenty one pilots I just can’t. I must be listening to the wrong songs because the songs that come out on the radio they are so generic. I do like the singing though kind of
Or listen to whatever you want and relate to. I get Corey is just trying to be funny. But his hate for pop music is kinda dumb. Pop music is great. Corey is just too old
Pop is Rock’s Ally. Here’s how I see the analogy: Rock=US Pop=UK R&B=France Soul=Canada Hip Hop=Russia Rap=Iran Crunk=North Korea Dubstep=China Any responses?
His kids are probably petrified when he comes home. I can see his son bopping to Bruno Mars and the sister is like “DAD’S HOME QUICK PUT PANTERA ON BEFORE HE BEATS YOU”
Metal isn't for everyone?Just take a look at the variety and then say it again.Don't like heavy metal?Have you tried sympho/folk?So you like hip-hop/rap,how about nu-metal?Do you like instruments? Then what about power or industrial metal?Everyone can pick their own subgenre,it just takes more time for some people.
Dude your username is Nanami Haruka. That's literally the main character of a reverse harem j-pop idol anime/game series. Your "favourite music" list is also filled with anime openings and hetalia music - most of which is pop. And your profile pic is Suga from BTS, a kpop group... #caughtinalie
@Mel have you ever considered that names from series or movies can also exist in real life without any connection to that series or movie? mindblowing right?
0:39 _"I feel like I'm being stung by a 1000 bees when I listen to Pop."_ Wow, I thought I was the only one who felt like that. EDIT: this is no longer my opinion on ALL pop. But some.
I honestly dont know how anyone can stomach pop music. It makes my skin crawl. People ask if metal music makes me feel angry or violent: no, pop music does.
I couldn't agree more. The last couple of years I have described listening to pop like getting tazed right in the brainstem (which I would guess feels alot like getting stung by 1000 bees) and artists like post malone and Billie eilish sounds like how your brain would operate after said electricution.
yeah. there are lots of times that i started to really feel nauseous like really gouge my eyes out everytime pop songs come out. and i once vomit when my friend turned her dangdut songs on. you dont wanna really search what dangdut is.. you'll vomit i swear to god just dont search it out.
You’re so damn lucky. Most of the kids in my school are those who listen to pop, musicals and lo-fi. I don’t often see that much who listen to my fave genre
Totally Totally agree. I love my music to have substance and meaning. Pop Music would never ever achieve that goal. Have been into rock music of any genre for all my life and what i love most about it , is that you can relate to some of the issues raised by these song writers and to me that matters. Also some of the songs that i listen to (especially the epics) will allow me to make to shut my eyes and have a visional experience as well.
The problem is, the more commercial a music is the more it will sell (aka: it's made to be popular), and the more "lifeless" it gets, like Corey said. So i bet the shit pop is much more popular than the good pop.
I agree with you. My comment was directed towards the people who says that everything pop is bad but I don't consider The Beatles or the Zombies be bad pop (to name an example)
I was one of those kids until I was 17. I used to listen to pop just because I didn't know there was other music out there. One fortunate day, I stumbled across The Last Stand by Sabaton, and I've been a metalhead ever since. I pray that more people realize that there is so much good music out there to discover and so many artists who put their heart and soul into making songs that can truly change your life.
I've already liked metal/rock music before but Sabaton is the band that made me realize "Yep, this is my kind of music" and from that point I considered myself a metalhead
Happened to me when I was 14. But it was DragonForce that got me in the metal craze. Then after that, I discovered Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, then Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, and now while I still listen to some lighter music like that from Eric Clapton, Bruno Mars, and others, I just happen to like metal the best.
JB sucks ass!! Plus, most “artists” today use auto tune so they’re not even singing. AND, a large majority of them probably lip sync at “live” performances.
Pop music. Is short for popular music. Last time I looked metal bands sell millions of albums/singles etc. By definition metal is pop music. A great deal of it sold and packaged in the exact same way as Taylor swift just with black nail varnish and God awful I'll informed lyrics claiming to Express anger etc
+Thomas Lanton It was in the late 1980's, and it was almost as insulting back then. You didn't have the technology that you have today, but you still had 1000 songwriters writing music for all of those popular glam bands and clothing designers and make up artists creating their image for them and record labels deciding what gets released. The point I'm making is that it doesn't matter what style of music the cancerous music industry metastasizes to, it will still destroy it. Just like it destroyed old school metal in the 80's. It even destroyed punk and hip hop, which in the beginnings were the furthest things from corporate music. And I know I'll inevitably get people saying "yeah well glam metal wasn't metal". Sure, at the end it wasn't, it had been reduced to pop music by the industry, just like every other style that gets huge. But in the beginning it was definitely metal. Listen to those first two Motley Crue records. Sure, the quality of the music isn't as high as Maiden or Dio or Metallica, but they're still very metal for the early 80's.
I'm one of those guy who's listening to Gorgoroth on the way home from work, and 10 minutes later be singing along to Take It Off by Taylor Swift with my kids, and liking both.
Mee to though i don't like death metal or stuff like that i listen to Metallica or Avenged sevenfold a lot.But sometimes you just need something soft to relax your mind
Thank god I was raised on rock music and not lazy, little talent, no effort pop music. I grew up listening to AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Metallica. Those types of bands. What passes for popular music nowadays annoys me and nearly makes me wanna vomit when people say people like Justin Bieber are geniuses.
***** well people do call nicki minaj talented. And miley cyrus. And one direction. Dude made a good point. people dont know shit beyond what is fed to them by the mainstream
blazejecar Nicky Minaj is talented, she has a good flow. Miley Cyrus, haven't heard, Wrecking Ball is solid. One Direction is just mediocre. You know, like Slipknot and all the other fucking nu-metal bands pandering to the angry white boi demographic.
***** > I have only listened to Stupid Hoe, Starships and Beez in the Trap. Her verse on Monster is pretty good, and her newest songs (NOT Anaconda), are more mature. Dislike her if you will (I'm not a big fan myself), but don't say that she has absolutely no talent.
Dude same I love Rock, Blues rock, country rock, indie pop, rap, even metal & classical. Just depends on my mood is all. But mainstream pop though only just every once in a while and only a few singers.
My grandma taught me that music is a very personal thing to everyone. Every individual has there type of music and that’s it. I listen to metal, instrumental and classic music. That’s my taste and if someone had a problem with then oh well
Here's to pop fans Pop music : autotune : entirely made through sound editing softwares no instruments : your live shows consist of crying fan girls : your live shows also consist of fake band members to back up someone like Ariana grande or Justin bieber Metal music : vocals actually take time and effort to master : no autotune that sounds over the top : real band mates : live shows are far more energetic ( unless it's a black metal moshpit ) : fans do not cry at there idols : pop singers do far more creepy stuff than metal musicians e.g miles cyrus , Nicki minaj : SLAYER IS GOOD AND YOU BETTER LIKE IT
CYBER HORSE pop music = music metal = music , how about let people listen to whatever they want and enjoy life, you metal fans are very arrogant just move on and stop worshipping your bands, same goes to pop fans
You think that using the sound banks is pop? Ohh fuck man you are dumb. Some people like electronic music and that music dont have nothing similar with pop.Pop means no feelings no nothing just money

Once you get into metal/punk music there is no going back, your soul becomes transformed. Live metal shows/festivals are indescribably brilliant; you haven't lived until you've been to one. Only those that have experienced this can understand what I mean.
That may be true for you. But not for everyone. This is clearly hard for you to understand, but people have different tastes in music and don't need to stick to one genre just because someone thinks they're a poser for liking Madonna, AC/DC and Tupac. And not just being all Grrr Metal! Or yeehaw Country! Or whatever the fuck.
@@bezoticallyyours83 Music Is all subjective and there is no right or wrong. I don't criticize someone because of their tastes, I just don't get a lot of genres because I find them boring. Metal can never be described as dull; it's an intense, loud and fun show. I have seen lots of other genres live as well over the years but nothing comes close to a live metal/punk show for excitement as far as I'm concerned.
@@1980extremeG I agree. There's genres I cant stand. But it's not right to say, because I only like this, it's not okay for anyone else to like something I don't. Or to dismiss an entire genre as talentless trash. Because then that would make the inverse true for naysayers of metal. If the artist sucks donkey balls, then they're gonna suck no matter what genre. If the artist is truly talented then that's true no matter what genre.
@@bezoticallyyours83 I think people have to give something a fair listen before casting judgment, which I always do. However, people that slag off metal have most likely never heard a fair slice of it. Its got a negative stereotype that a lot of people are influenced by before they've even given it a chance. Metal will always be a marmite genre, you either get it or you don't, there is no middle ground. I personally love it.
I think its total bullshit that people consider consider Metal/Rock bands "Satan's Music" and "controversial" I mean What the Fuck? It amazes me that those fucking morons would rather listen to pop music despite that pop only sings songs about getting blow jobs, having sex, disrespecting women, and promoting teenage pregnancy in a nutshell. Heavy Metal and Rock sing songs that are really meaningful and send us a direct message that are realistic and deep. it also takes true talent to play Metal. Atleast they know how to sing and play instruments instead of using a computer and auto-tune. In the words of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, "No one can destroy the Metal, the Metal will strike you down with a mighty blow!!!"
It's a matter of opinion. People who listen to pop music probably think metal and bands like Slipknot and Stonesour are crappy lol no one is right or wrong though... People like different stuff that is part of what makes us human. I love my metal music and I am cool if not everyone likes it as long as they don't try to stop me from enjoying it lol
The autotuning is what annoys me the most - I like hearing imperfection in voices. I like music made by actual instruments rather than a synthesizer, etc. You don't need to be hard rock - just be real.
Those computer generated beats take incredible skill to properly put together. You have to know a good bit about most of the instruments in the beat, and yku have to really know how to structure a song. Check out Madlib and see what that man can do with a sampler. Just cause it's technology doesn't mean it's "fake".
Yep. Corey Taylor reminds me of myself and friends when we were 16 years metalheads,. hating on everything not enough metal. Fortunately we grew up and expanded our vision of the world, enriching also our musical culture. We still listen to metal but enjoy also a good pop songs. Pop is a huge genre and includes lots of artists. Hating on it and its all people just because there are some assholes money making machines in the industry is ignorant, just as much as hating of metal cause it's not your thing , and your idea of it is crazy people screaming senseless and incompressible things, because they are either on drugs or possessed by the devil. And Marilyn Manson of course, cause that's the image you have. Old or modern is a whole bunch of people and you get to know only the surface cause that's where the money are.made.
I agree with what Corey is saying, our sense in good music has become so awful because the vocals are so incredibly processed. Processing the instruments on a track is one thing, but having to process vocals to completely change them is just pointless. I'm a music producer, I make electronic music aswell as other things and I understand what he means, there's a certain point you hit and it's like, what's even the point anymore.
The last good and real pop artist was and still is Michael Jackson. Hence, he is quoted as the King of Pop. His successors, I guess, messed up what used to be pop. Now it is poop.

I was listening to Slipknot in school and this one girl walked up to me and asked me what I'm listening to. I gave her one earphone and we listenned to Killpop and Snuff and then came the question that shocked me: "Do you listen to normal music at all?" I had no clue what to say. Then she closed those and put up some rap and pop songs that sounded like almost every other rap and pop song ever. I said I didn't like those, so she kept putting others. My reaction didn't change. Then the bell rang. It ended at that.
Corey Taylor has every right to speak on this, since he actually has one of the largest voice ranges still in use. His range covers more than 4 octaves.
4 octaves is not impressive. Once he can hit a full 5 octave (lie Ivan Moody) or even 6 octave (like Rob Halford), I'll give him a bit more credit when it comes down to singing.
I used to agree with this 100% but honestly the thing is not everyone loves music and wants to explore it and appreciate it as an art form. Some people are just casual listeners, and on some level I think you have to accept that of people and just respect them. Acting like an elitist isn’t really how you invite people to listen to harder working artists you just turn people off to you in general.
Life is too short, enjoy the music you like,i dislike untalented pop musicians but it is what it is,i remember slipknot used to be hated in metal community and i didn't care i still liked them haha.
I used to be a die hard metal elitist a few years back. After learning more technical aspects of different types of music I began to appreciate more to the point I have no discrimination against any genre and have an open approach. Honestly on a side note, I don't get how some people can diss pop them go around blasting glam/hair metal, like dude, it's one of the most corniest Era you have to be legitimately deluded to think otherwise.
Everyone out saying in essence they’re going to choose their kids favourite music. When I have kids I don’t care what they listen too I like metal but I also want to listen to something other than screaming and growling.
@@legend-rx9ik said the one with a manga pfp your opinion doesn’t count. the vast majority of metal is straight screaming and growling. I’ve listened to metal for a long time my above point is valid. I’m sure you listen to metalcore.

I don't even like Slipknot, but damn I can relate... listening to mainstream radio is so kringy.... i literally feel stupider the linger i hear it... not to mention physically get headaches from it
1:34 those are my exact thoughts! People don’t even know their options and some people say shit like “why would you listen to rock they just scream” it pisses me off
Her music and tone is irrelevant from the typical pop artists of today. She’s a beautiful creep show, incorporating catchy beats and airy tone quality.
(In my opinion), Pop Music is just stupid. It may have mouths ran by auto-tune and lyrics either the same line all over or just meant plain stupidity, but one of the features I hate so much is the snare drum beat replaced by claps.
Krisna Pajaron ugh you should look up some dutch pop music, autotuned to hell, i feel like Stan from South Park whenever it's on the radio. It feels like it's raining shit out of the speakers. The problem is, most adults don't like it eighter, but the market is dominated by kids who can't understand english yet and listen to it. Most even with those annoying bluetooth speakers so it can't be avoided, it's everywhere... i'm teaching my young kids some simple english, like i used to teach myself (when i was young cartoons were english with dutch subs so it was super easy) and they love it. Couple of days ago the intro of Purple Rain started playing on the radio and my oldest daughter (4 yo) just stopped what she was doing, listened and litteraly said "i like this song" and continued what she was doing. She made me so proud!
New rap and pop is trash. The guys make shitty cocky lyrics about stupid shit with the same beat every song, and the girls like Nikki Manaj use a raspy baby voice because they don't have a real good voice to sing with. Same with Panic at the Disco, same raspy baby voice and he is a guy. It is like real singing using your real and normal voice is being replaced by losers who can't do that. It is shameful these untalented losers who disrespect other people and only care about money get shit ton of money and support from a young shitty generation who doesnt care for talent and skill.
I can tolerate electronic music. Electronic industrial especially. Most of the music I make is electronic. I just hate upbeat bubblegum pop "I'm on a roll" pop music. 80's synthpop or synthwave or dark pop is cool. Like Pumped up Kicks.
@@Torito19 we dont ask respect for our music, problem is this new music is shameful. It requires no talent, same over used beat, and the lyrics have no purpose, it means nothing. We want people to stop making this crap rap and pop music just because it is "mainstream"
I couldn't agree more! As a Guitarist myself, it takes time writing riffs, solos etc. To learn a fast complex solo it can take weeks to learn. Pop music I feel, you just type in notes and there's your music. Obviously I am not going to discredit all pop musicians because there are some great pop artists out there too, but majority of pop these days, their songs are probably produced within one month 😂 just my opinion.
He says pop musicians have less talent and more attention. That can be true in some aspects but what about Slipknot? There are thousands of bands that are much more talented and has much more complex music than Slipknot. When I first started to learn guitar I always tried to learn Slipknot songs because most of them are very easy and simple but I still have difficulties learning some Periphery stuff which is very progressive and complex. There are tons of guitarist that would outshred Mick Thomson or Jim Root but they are not as famous as them. I had the same opinion as Corey once but when you keep exploring and digging more music you understand that music is not about being complex or having good lyrics. It does not matter if it's consisted of 4 notes or thousands . It's all about enjoying yourself. Every genre has its own place. As I grow older metal music does not give me the same chills that it did 2 years ago. I remember hating Kanye West for being "talantless but famous" but now I can enjoy his songs much more than Slipknot's tracks. So basically a metal artist is not more or less talanted than a pop artist he just can play an instrument better or can write technical/complex stuff but it's all about creating a music that finds a way to people's heart.
I don't think that's what he's saying. He's not trying to say music has to be complex to be good. What matters is that it means something and came from the artist's heart. I'm not going to generalize and say every pop artist is trash, but there's plenty of soulless music that has more or less been generated by an algorithm to appeal to the lowest common denominator in order to sell and nothing more. That's what he's talking about.
@@VisserZer0 Mate do you think Slipknot's music come from heart? They are all 40+ year old adults and I can assure you that they don't have the same energy that they had in earlier albums like IOWA or All Hope Is Gone . They just do it for the money now and I'm not judging them. I completely understand them because rock/metal are mostly young people's cup of tea and as they get older artists just don't have the same anger, hungerness in them. Also there a tons of shitty metalcore/deathcore bands that don't make music with passion and can't play an instrument for shit. They start the band as soon as they've learned a few power/octave chords or simple strumming patterns. They just do it for money and fame. But again I know tons of new generation of bands that dedicated themselves to metal music and you can really feel the energy and hard work in their songs. The point I want to make is we shouldn't really call pop the "lifeless" music. Because I've heard many metal/rock songs that have no "life" in them too. Pop is created by computer mostly but that doesn't mean it has no hard work behind it. In metal there are tons of genres and every genre has their own fanbase. But in pop you don't have the same kind of fanbase people just want to hear a catchy song and its not that easy to come up with a hit pop song that audience appreciates. Artists or the people who write the song for artists spend days/weeks in studios to create that hit. Bad artists should be considered as "lifeless" not the whole genres my friend. Once I was an ignorant metalhead too but music has no bounds keep exploring and appreciate the quality songs in any genres. :)
@@ilkinsuleymanzad8252 "Mate do you think Slipknot's music come from heart?" I couldn't tell you tbh. I just wanted to try and clarify the point I felt he was making here in this interview. I also don't want to give the impression that I'm a metalhead by any stretch of the imagination haha. Slipknot are pretty far from what I'd typically listen to, but I'm here because I _do_ want to broaden my horizons. Music indeed has no bounds as you've said. Re pop music though... I'm not saying you're wrong. Every genre has bands that don't give a shit and just want to make $$$. Every genre also has talented and passionate artists that are doing what they love. I do agree that non-pop bands tend to be ignored in this discussion about lifeless music, but I don't think it's _completely_ unfair for pop to have the spotlight, simply because everyone is exposed to it. Not everyone will listen to metalcore, but practically _everyone_ "listens" to popular music, whether they like it or not. It's pretty ubiquitous, and now more than ever. That presence mean the positives _and_ the negatives will be amplified, which admittedly just makes pop music the most convenient backdrop for this kind of discussion. I will say however that I'm not certain it's as difficult as you'd think to produce a "hit" song. (By that, I mean to produce a song that has many of the qualities of a hit, not that it will automatically make it there.) I'm actually about to close out a music degree, which has included courses in popular music and music production using Logic Pro X. That program can do a lot of the work for you if you want it to. There are huge libraries of preconstructed loops and effects, and actions like beat correction literally only require a couple of clicks to accomplish. It'll take time to learn the software of course, but once you gain a little familiarity, it's not super difficult to start making songs sound good. I think it's a good thing overall--music, both creating it and listening to it, should be accessible to everyone. I also don't want to give the impression that I think music production is easy (I toiled away in the studio for hours on my projects every day), but just a little bit of effort really does go a long way. Anyway, I'm not trying to paint popular music as the devil and don't want to come across that way (there are pop songs I like too!), but I think given its prevalence by nature in mainstream culture, it's fair to both view the lows with increased scrutiny and the highs with higher admiration when talking about music as a whole. This just happened to be a discussion about the lows.
+MezmeriZe It's worse when you try to play your music while on a car ride with other people and they shout at you for blasting Rammstein, calling it nazi music. I slapped the dude.
@Frank Lopez I ain't a slipknot fan but fuck off man, you really are a helpless dick, there's no point hating on a band cause they sound a bit like an older band.
I really agree with Corey, I think the main problem with modern pop music is that it's so passionless and market driven. I do think there are still popular artists who are good even if I'm not a fan of it, but I think it mainly comes down to "Does it seem like a REAL person wrote this".

Also some of the songs that i listen to (especially the epics) will allow me to make to shut my eyes and have a visional experience as well.

There's good pop and utter shit pop. But I agree with what Corey says in here
Nope, all of it is complete horse shit.

Sabaton is sick...it got both me and my friend into metal
Bro, that's litterally the same story, of how i got into metal, thru Last stand
I'm the opposite.
If metal is noise for others, pop is noise to me. Like theres so much going on and its not even the good type of so much going on.

Pop music. Is short for popular music. Last time I looked metal bands sell millions of albums/singles etc. By definition metal is pop music. A great deal of it sold and packaged in the exact same way as Taylor swift just with black nail varnish and God awful I'll informed lyrics claiming to Express anger etc
If only we lived in a world like Brutal Legend where metal is the rightful king of music.

+razberryclownsac Me too
+Thomas Lanton It was in the late 1980's, and it was almost as insulting back then.

Once you get into metal/punk music there is no going back, your soul becomes transformed. Live metal shows/festivals are indescribably brilliant; you haven't lived until you've been to one. Only those that have experienced this can understand what I mean.
I totally agree! Since I have listened to Maiden’s “Aces High” when I was 5, I got so much into metal music, but I never went to a metal concert :')
That may be true for you. But not for everyone. And not just being all Grrr Metal! Or yeehaw Country! Or whatever the fuck.
@@bezoticallyyours83 Music Is all subjective and there is no right or wrong. I don't criticize someone because of their tastes, I just don't get a lot of genres because I find them boring.
Heavy Metal and Rock sing songs that are really meaningful and send us a direct message that are realistic and deep.

+MarvelDcImage Agreed.
Yeah or a least know how to play the keyboard well if u have a synth. Anything that takes effort
Those computer generated beats take incredible skill to properly put together.
Malachite 850 I can relate dude, people always look at me weirdly everytime I put on something that's not rap or pop

Corey Taylor has every right to speak on this, since he actually has one of the largest voice ranges still in use. His range covers more than 4 octaves.
Brian Plotner his voice literally has nothing to do wit this
Yet he's still not metal enough to be Rob Halford. Corey Taylor is the definition of pop metal.
James Gabioud I wouldn’t say he’s not metal enough but I see where your coming from
4 octaves is not impressive. Once he can hit a full 5 octave (lie Ivan Moody) or even 6 octave (like Rob Halford), I'll give him a bit more credit when it comes down to singing.
Brendon urie has an insane vocal range too, covering just one note below five octaves, being four octaves and seven notes

(In my opinion), Pop Music is just stupid. It may have mouths ran by auto-tune and lyrics either the same line all over or just meant plain stupidity,
but one of the features I hate so much is the snare drum beat replaced by claps.
Your comment is too basic i hope you are not that kind of elitist metalhead who blame other genres but asking respect the music he likes
Obviously I am not going to discredit all pop musicians because there are some great pop artists out there too, but majority of pop these days, their songs are probably produced within one month 😂 just my opinion.

there is no better music. now im older i sort of accept everything. but metal is real. pure energy power and rage.
For real. I had this type of mindset when I was 12; it concerns me to see a grown man with this childish mindset.
Kanye > metal and rock. No cap
@@thomaspynchon8400 not funy. consider delet
This is the reason why I laugh if somebody tries to tell me that Wiz Khalifa or Drake is making good music...
