- Quick tutorial using Sparkocam to get around the 30 minute timer when doing video with a DSLR. This will allow you to use your DSLR as a webcam for the entire length of your stream.

Earlier today I gave up on getting my 7D Mark ii to work for streaming. I had finally gotten everything to work but then ran into the 30 minute limit. So THANK YOU for this! You totally saved me!
I’m glad I could help you out, I was pounding my head into the wall as well so I fell your pain. I even use this setup now for doing flight testing of drones, we have one that will stay a lot for 3 hours.

No problem, put my head into the wall for hours trying to figure it out. Currently putting together another video for helping people moving from a webcam to actually setup the camera properly. I’m hoping on the next week or two to have it ready.
@@sniperp_99 I subbed. So I still have one question. After everything is plugged in, how did you get that 4k Live feed? Do you add to Scene via Window Capture or Video Capture?
I did video capture as I went through a camlink. However I don’t have elgatos software running since it would take the video feed and then OBS can’t use it. I just use elgatos hardware, then have OBS pull the footage.

If the mk2 would allow ML I would have as well, and getting the feed is easy. Just don’t run elgatos software, and select the camlink in OBS for the video input.

I was desperatly searching for a functioning solution to solve the 30min shutdown problem. Unfortunately I was not successful... So I ended up with a mechanical solution that keeps my shutter release button half pressed.
I shall try now the SparkoCam software since my Canon Model is listed among the supported cameras

Glad it could help. It was very hardy when I had a DSLR, now I have a mirrorless (Canon R6) so I don’t need the program anymore. But I’m still thankful it’s helping out those who need it.

So I have a canon 90d, dummy pack, I had the camera on for about 4 hours, it never got too hot. I had auto shutdown off. My shutter always kicks on about an hour and 10 minutes into my cam being on and says “start/stop”. One thing to note is that I haven’t tried using the usb paired with the hdmi mini
Another solution is to install the experimental LUA version of Magic Lantern, go to pref menu > powersave in liveview > 30 minute timer disable.
However ML isnt supported in all cameras. My 7Dmk2 is not, although i really wish it would, and this allows multiple cameras to be used not just Canon cameras.

I have the set up to restart after 25 minutes and also set the camera auto shut off to disable. It still shuts off at 30 minutes. I have tried using an hdmi with capture card and also just using the usb cable. It is a Canon 6d
I’ve had to use both together to get it to work, it should work with USB only, but you’ll have a watermark unless you pay for it. Have Sparkocam running in the background through USB, and HDMI to pull your clean video.
*EDIT* I just looked at sparkocams website and you might be out of luck, the 6D doesn’t look to be supported. However, the 6D is supported by magic lantern. Inside that software they may have a workaround for you. I haven’t used it myself, but a lot of filming friends I have use it to unlock features in their cameras, including shooting RAW video. Maybe give it a look and see if there’s something for you there, magiclantern.fm/downloads.html
Your symbols in the back are creating a lot of reverb in your sound...

Thanks for the helpful video. Unfortunately, I read about the trial version not supporting the refresh live view anymore. But even if it did, if I plug the UBS into my Nikon D5600, I don't get anything through the HDMI feed. :'(
If you could possibly find an older version it may still work. As for the HDMI feed stopping when USB plugged in then that may be a camera specific item. Sorry I don't have a Nikon to test though.

Does this only work for live streaming or would this be able to work with just normal video recording
Recording onto a PC with OBS then sure, but if your asking about recording onto the camera then I’m not sure. I also don’t have my 7Dmk2 anymore so I wouldn’t be able to test it out unfortunately. I’ll put it this way the program will prevent the shutter from closing, which stops the liveview, so as long as the software of the cameras keeps the recording going you’ll be fine. My suggestion would be to just record on OBS to be safe

I never tried, if I’m you have two instances of Sparkocam cam running with each selecting a different source I don’t see why not.

Well most of the time I’m filming is after the kids go to bed, so I can’t get to loud. Working on the next video, almost a year after this one yikes, but hopefully the sound will be a lot better.

A word of warning, some people have been saying newer versions are removing the ability on some camera with the free version. You may have to hunt an old version. I have no updated since making this video so it still works fine for me. But if not please messenge back with the firmware and camera model. I’m going to start making a list of version/camera where the free version doesn’t work. So ANY input is greatly appreciated

I can see that my camera appears on SparkoCam's compatible camera list.
And I have 2 cables: one HDMI and one USB.
I can see that you have used Elgato's Capture Card, and I'm thinking of buying that too BUT there's this problem:

As long as your camera has HDMI then the capture card will pull the feed. The capture card just looks for the video signal and that’s it.
Great video, thanks, man. Super useful. I saw that you use "4K Capture Utility" for recording/streaming. I downloaded and installed it also, but it says "No capture devices found". Any hints or tips on how to make it find my "EOS Webcam Utility Beta"? Cheers
I actually use OBS for my recording/streaming. I only showed the capture utility to demonstrate the clean HDMI feed.
this is a great solution except I'm on a canon m50 and that option is blacked out, I can't even select it to turn it on
Not sure then, it might not be supported. However I have seen some videos saying if you use the canon connect program and run it in the background like Sparkocam it’s supposed to work.
@@sniperp_99 yep I emailed their tech support just to make sure, had a theory that since content creators made solutions for the 30 minute timeout they intentionally disabled this feature so you'd have to pay for it. So I did and it works wonderful on a video capture while running this in the background. It feels less memory intensive vs the canon utility 3 software
So you had to buy the full app and it worked with your M50, just want to make sure I’m reading that right.

I have Nikon D5300 and did exactly the same steps. It worked fine but the main issued is still the same. I can change the settings as shown in the video, but the last two choices (most impotently restarting the live view every 25 minutes) are not there. I am assuming that the software can restart the live view every 25 minutes but not for all DSLR cameras.
I just looked on the Sparkocam website and the D5300 is supported, someone earlier had the same issue with the EOS2000D and the response I got from sparkocam was you had to pay for the program to get that feature. I use an older version of Sparkocam and I still have it for my 7Dmk2 so I’m guessing newer free versions have it disabled.
@Hadi - did you buy the sparkosoft software? Did it work with your camera? I have the D5300 and wanting to resolve the 30 minutes time limits and curious to know if it work. Please share your experience and your finding. As is right now...I run the HDMI mini from the D5300 to the Elgato HD60S+ and then right USB-C from Elgato to the computer USB. The sparkon recognized the game capture HD60S+ as webcam BUT not the Nikon. Thus, I wonder if that means that I have to buy the sparko software in order for the Nikon to be recognize in which the setting for the "time limit" appear. Looking forward to hear from you
Well it doesnt detect my camera as a camera through that application and its on the supported list......
What camera is it, is your computer even detecting it?
@@sniperp_99 t3i rebel and it connects but it just shows as USB device and it's zoomed out a little with the info still showing
@@ZephyrForReal Are you trying to use the USB video feed or HDMI? For my setup I have the USB plugged in with sparkocam running in the background. THEN I use the HDMI feed into a capture card and pull and use clean video from that.
@@sniperp_99 I have the HDMI plugged into a capture card although I have tried using it in addition to the usb cable, with just the usb it will transfer my gallery over with both of them plugged in the video feed is turned off completely and it won't be detected at all
@@sniperp_99 And if I use one of those conversion apps it looks like actual garbage, I do have a camlink coming soon but regardless the video capture card I have should do the same thing on a lower quality scale, but instead just throws the video with the camera interface with it... Do I need to be using both the HDMI and the USB cable to make it work as a facecam? And if so why does it stop getting detected when I plug them both in?
How do you use the USB output and the HDMI output at the same time? Is it just your camera that has that feature? I have a canon T2i and I'm having issues getting my HDMI output along with using sparkocam.
As long as Sparkocam is recognizing your camera is connected you should be fine, you don’t need to video feed from USB as it will then have a watermark on it. If your still having difficulties then connect the HDMI first then the USB, that way the HDMI is pulling the video first.
How did you get rid of the auto focus rectangle
Under the first menu option (looks like a camera), scroll to when it says HDMI display, select the option that looks like the camera and a TV screen/monitor. This allows for clean HDMI feed.

Yes it will. I do drone testing/flying as well and I utilized this technique to film a 3 hour test flight then edit it down later.

Don't use the video feed from Sparkocam, use whatever HDMI capture feed to give a clean image. You just need Sparkocam running in the background to keep resetting the 30min timer. For my example I use the Eglato camlink as my capture device and use OBS to pull the HDMI feed.
but doesn't obs already record for more than 30 minutes if you have a cam link
Yes OBS will record for over 30min however the camera itself will shutdown live view after 30min regardless if plugged into a computer or not. If you have a mirror less camera you should be alright but a regular DSLR will shutdown after 30min unless you trick it to reset the timer like Sparkocam does.

@@cleanwater3791 yes you can, I saw the video stream along both connections. However, with Sparkocam if you don’t pay for the full version then you’ll have a watermark on the USB feed. That is why I then used the camlink to pull clean HDMI without a watermark.
Would this work with a cam link and obs?
The camlink is what I actually get my video feed from. I don’t use Sparkocam to pull my video feed. The usb connection is only to reset the 30min timer. And yes it works with both OBS and SLOBS as it’s independent of either program.
Hey I've been using this method for some months now. Today, The option for the 25 minutes its like blocked, I can't use it anymore. Any idea what could happend?
They may have pushed an update to their software removing the use on their free option. I have a laptop I haven't put it on I can test out and I'll get back to you about it.

@@nomad322100 Which older version is now working fine for you? @Gaming with Sniperp 's video has been shoot on the 23rd of Feb 2020. So his version was probably the 2.6.8, the 2.6.9 signature being from March 1st 2020. I'm also running into problems in between SparkoCam 2.7.4 and OBS with a 5D Mark III. Once OBS is launched, the camera shutter start closing, opening, closing, opening, etc. every 2s. It looks like there's a conflict in between SparkoCam 2.7.4 and OBS.

Yes, unless you buy the full version so you can use the USB feed. If you use the free version and pull the USB feed you’ll have a Sparkocam watermark on you video.

Restart Live View is greyed out for me. Any info?, EOS 2000D.
That is weird, I looked online and that camera is supported. I’ll shoot an email to Sparkocam and see what they say. Someone with an M50 had issues as well but when the my bought the full version it worked perfectly.
So I just got an email back from Sparkocam and apparently the restart liveview is turned off on the trial version, it’s been a bit since I’ve used mine so I’ll test it out and let you know if mine is greyed out as well.

Sorry today went a bit sideways, I got an email from them saying the auto restart has been removed from trial versions. I need to double check mine to see if it was.
