In this video we look at how to setup an intervalometer. Most students I talk to own an intervalometer, but few if them have any idea how to use one. That’s what this video is for. By the end of it you will be a pro intervalometer user!
If you have any interest in astrophotography, time lapse photography or really anything else that requires photographing a sequence of images, an intervalometer is a necessity.

Good video. One comment though regarding the interval setting. I have the Vello Shutterboss intervalometer and also do astrophotography. If I take 1 minute exposures and want to have the camera wait 3 seconds between each shot I need to set the interval to 1 min 3 sec and not just 3 seconds. In the manual under the interval setting section it says to use an interval that is longer than your exposure time. This confused me at first but I realized this was correct and what I needed to do because when I tried just setting the interval to 3 sec it didn’t work.
Weird! I’ve never run into that with mine. Thanks for adding that in!!!
Rocky Mountain School of Photography I’m not sure, perhaps there is a setting I need to change but haven’t been able to find that. Also I have seen someone on another video reference the same procedure I do and another video that says the same thing you do. Yeah, strange.
Must be different depending on the intervalometer. Huh. Well, thanks for letting me know!
bro thanks! I was losing it.
@@greadore I saw in another video the same issue, but it turned out that the guy's intervalometer required at least 4 or 5 seconds between shots (not just 2 or 3). Thus, I believe he didn't have to set a 2 min 5 sec interval for a 2-minute exposure; they just had to have at least 4 or 5 secs in between. I need to test mine the same way...see if it has a sweet spot.
Your "how to" on the Intervalometer is the BEST on TH-cam! To the point, concise... perfect! Thank you,
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks Forest. Needed to set up my secondary camera for the wide angle for the upcoming eclipse. Thanks for turning a Total BLEEPING Mystery into a simple and elegant device! Thank you.
Hahaha, thanks for watching!
Wow! Very nicely explained. Thank you very much!
Great tutorial. My intervalometer looks almost identical to yours except that it is the JJC brand. That's a great tip about using the dashes for an unlimited number of shots. I was actually wondering how to override the 399 photo limit on my unit. Yes, that is very restrictive - 399 photos. I was shooting time lapse of a cruise ship out at sea today and I had to do a few sequences after reaching the photo limit each time. I'm using the intervalometer with a Panasonic G7 which does have an internal time lapse feature but it's not very reliable. Actually, most of the time, it refuses to start the time lapse. But this unit works like a charm.
Excellent video, very clear and concise. Thank you.
You are welcome!

Very helpful. I just subscribed to your channel. I'm using an Olympus OM-1. Deep sky is new to me, I wanted to use an exposure longer than the camera intervalometer allows 60 seconds. I always shot single or star trails, tracking is totally new to me and I have had some good results so far at a Sark Sky Viewing area 4 hours away from me.

I very much appreciate this video! The instructions are pretty tiny so I appreciate you taking the time to do this video. I did have one question though I haven't been able to figure out how to turn it off, it seems as though it's always on, and that doesn't seem very effective when it comes to battery life.
Any thoughts or tips on that?
Excellent tutorial 👍👍👍 thank you 👍👍
