    I have oily and hooded eyes. I have used Mac painterly paint pot and Urban Decay Eyeshadow primer. I like the Smashbox 24 hour photo finish eyeshadow primer the best. It it nice to to know I'm not the only one.

    I have very hooded and slightly oily eye lids. A lot of people would normally recommend Urban Decay since it's a holy grail in the makeup scene. I also got it recently but it doesn't quite work for me despite letting it sit for a minute or two before applying anything. I was already eyeing Too Faced's mascara, so knowing that they have a great eye primer as well with low costs is wprth knowing. Mainly because Smashbox isn't sold everywhere where I live.

    I have very oily skin and eylids. I like the smashbox too AND the Esthee Lauder double wear eyeshadow primer is the nr. 1 for me.

    I have hooded lids and a very watery eye, and just for good measure oily lids. Triple whammy! My right eye is great, my left eye looks like a sludge slick 20 minutes after I apply shadows. I am off to buy Nyx and Smashbox on your recommendation and see how I get on. It drives me to distraction. I had a professional makeup application for a wedding, and I hadn't even got home in the car to get changed into my outfit, and my eye looked like a muddy puddle. It's awful. My tear travels up my crease onto my lid. Aaaaaaarrrrrggghh!!!!!!!
    Here's to your video. I'll let you know! Thank you xxx

      @@GivemeSilverNotPaper It's ok but it's not ideal. It does crease especially with some humidity (rain, snow, wearing a mask all day) so idk why they called it waterproof. It is also a bit harder to blend shadow on top of it than on the others I tried or on a concealer.

    I was about to buy the Smashbox primer yesterday, but I held up and tried something different (which ended up working). Ive tried numerous eye primers which people have said are the best, and they dont work as advertised. They mostly help eyeshadow to go on more smoothly and more pigmented, but that's it. So I wondered if a matte, long-wearing concealer, set with my Ben Nye Neutral set powder (which has both talc, and aluminium hydroxide as aborbent/viscosity controlling ingredients) & shimmers damp with setting spray would work. So I applied a thin layer of the Urban Decay Stay Naked concealer, I set it with Ben Nye Neutral Set, then I lay down an all over base of a light skintone eyeshadow, and then proceeded with my look, making sure I sprayed the shimmer which setting spray before applying. I used the NYX Stay Matte setting spray, and I used Essence Eyeshadows. And the look lasted all day, and the shimmer didnt fade or crease. I used NO EYE PRIMER.
    Im going to try this with Juvias Place and Colour pop Shadows and if it works, im all set!

    • @tedoymisojos
      @tedoymisojos ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KpopInYourArea95 from what ive tried so far the Alter Ego eye primer is the one that helps me the most with longevity (hooded, oily eyelids). Its supposed to dupe the Nars one, but i cant compare since i havent tried the Nars. For the most fade prone i just spray them with mehron mixing medium if i really want them to not move, but 90% of the time i just use the primer. I havent done concealer priming for a long time using ud & ben nye, so idk if those for for those.

    I usually lay down a thin layer of a cheap primer like Milani or Wet&Wild, then I'll layer something on top. I've tried Mac Paint Pot, Elf Pot, the Sigma sticks, ABH, the "holy grail" Gerard Cosmetics base, none work for me. I've wasted so much money, it's really irritating! What I've been using the most has been Fenty. It's still not 100% crease-proof, but it holds up the best; some days I make it without creasing, some days I don't! Now, when I use up some of these, I will have to try your faves, so thanks!

    I have the same type of eyes and I’ve tried a few primers. I have a Too Faced one at the moment. My favourite of all time is the Elf putty primer. I use a natural coloured one between the crease and eyebrows and a white one on the lid. I use a white eyeshadow to set the lid and the crease. OMG my eyeshadow now lasts all day and whatever colour I put on my lid really stands out. If Elf ever stops making them I’ll will be lost!! 🥰

    First time me watching one of your videos. Much appreciated! I have severely oily lids and major hooded eyes. I too use proof it - it’s not great but for the price it’s pretty competitive with the pricier versions.
    I also use Nars which is expensive but works awesome!! One you should try.
    I will look into the smash box one of it’s cheaper than Nars.

    The ones I've tried on my hooded, oily eyelids, I agree with you 100%! My BFF loves ABH, but she tends to have much drier and less hooded eyelids than me. Too Faced has been my GOAT, but I got a good deal on the UD primer last year so I have a full-sized tube to get through. I haven't tried the Nyx or Smashbox, so those are going on the list. I've actually been REALLY pleasantly surprised lately by a ShopMissA (dollar store for beauty, don't know if you can get it in the UK) primer, which was a great dupe for ABH, but they tend to sell out and they've sold out of their regular eyeshadow primers again.

    Hi Carolyn, just wanted to say after watching your video, the next day I went out and brought the smash box primer you recommended. I used it very sparingly, didn’t set it and it didn’t work that well. I was a bit disheartened! The next day I tried it again and this time I used a bit more and also set the primer. OMG, suddenly my eyeshadow stayed for hours and hours! Thank you so much for letting me know about this, it’s been extremely helpful to me! Xox

    • @tedoymisojos
      @tedoymisojos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I almost bought it yesterday, but decided to try something different today and it actually worked. My eyeshadow didn't fade, and the shimmer didn't crease; btw I have hooded, oily eyelids & most of the makeup on my mobile lid is always gone by the end of the day. What I did was Use a thin layer of the Urban Decay Stay Naked Concealer (a matte, longwearing concealer) then I set it with a light layer of my Ben Nye Neutral Set (has Talc & Aluminium Hydroxide as absorbent/viscosity control ingredients), then I used a Vanilla color eyeshadow from lash to brow as a base, finished my eyeshadow look, and made sure to spray the shimmer with setting spray when I applied it. And that was it. I used eyeshadows from Essence & the NYX Matte setting spray.
      Now I wonder which parts of this routine I can skip and interchange and still have it work. I will try this with different brands of eyeshadows first to see if it works with all of them. Im pretty exited though :D This has only happened once before with the Wet N Wild photofocus e/s primer; which works but burns my eyes AND emphasizes texture.

    Since I started watching your channel, the youtube algorithm keeps filling my feed with every conceivable cat video on the site. It took me a few days of wondering why youtube thought I was some sort of crazy cat lady. My first thought was, "Does youtube know I am in my 50s, single with no children and it's making the assumption I have cats?"
    With regards to eye primers, I have the dreaded hooded, crepey, saggy, downturned eyes and the endless search for primers is like wandering throughout The Wasteland. I appreciate the video. At present I am using an eye primer by Alter Ego that I threw in the cart in order to get free shipping. It's actually working quite well, it's very tacky, only two incidences of patchiness and those were with two palettes that Theresa Is Dead also mentioned she had issues with, one being the blue/purple shade from the (overrated) Dose of Colors Friendification palette and I can't recall the other shadow. It's very true that sometimes the cheaper primer works better than the most expensive. Don't try Edward Bess. Expensive. Probably the WORST eye primer I have ever used. It literally turns all your shadows into a brown or grey patchy mess.

I heard that you use waterproof eye shadow and was wondering what you would recommend. Price is not a concern. I’m a desperate woman! Also if u have any eyeliner recommendations I would so appreciate. I’ve tried at least 10 different, liquid, gel, stick that are top rAted for smudge proof and waterproof. Absolutely nothing works. I loved NYX Waterproof Eye Base, very resistant, but after a few uses it irritated my eyes and lids. I've been using the nyx waterproof primer for a couple of months now and while I agree that it is good, personally I find it's so sticky sometimes that it can be kind of hard to blend the shadows. I've also got dry patches on my lids but I think that may be due to it being winter since I wore no eye makeup for a week and it didn't make a difference (plus I remember having a similar problem before).

    As for the NYX base I don't think you need to set it as it sets on its own if you wait a moment for it to dry. I put it on and do my brows in the meantime. When I'm done it's already dry. But I guess different techniques work for other people. I dislike setting the base as it makes the shadow not grip to the eyelid as nicely.

I’ve been using the fenty one lately I think it’s great it does hold the eyeshadow pretty well .. so far didn’t notice any creases I even fell asleep with my eye makeup on once and had the shadows still on the next morning but I don’t know if it’s the primer that is good or my eyelids are too dry after the urban decay primer potion on Eden lol .. Used urban decay for years but something must have changed because it just does nothing now. I have tried So many types and they all crease, so here looking for new perspectives

    I’ve been wanting the Smashbox one but I’m a bit concerned since my veins is very visible on my eyelids...

    Have you tried the new hourglass? I decided that I need to try eyeshadow primer and I couldn't decide between the smashbox or the new hourglass

    If you set your eyes you will probably have a better outcome. Sounds like you eyelids get oily & that’s why they don’t last 12 hours like you want it to. It only takes a few minutes to set

    Hello this was a great video, may I ask, is it necessary to purchase an eye primer and face primer, I know the difference between eye primer and eye base, I'm also aware of eye primers vs concealers, but can I use a face primers as eyeprimer or is it just better to purchase separate eye primer

      Hiya! Sorry for the slow reply.
      Eye primers are a bit different - they are meant to be a good base (like face primers) but many also help to even out skin tone, so that the colours of the eyeshadows can really pop.
      Personally, I would purchase a separate primer, but another viewer suggested that the Elf Poreless putty primer (for the face) actually works well as an eye-primer.
      Maybe just have a play and see what works for you? I bet that some more 'sticky' face primers might work for the eyes. :)

    Sorry, newbie here, how do you set an eye primer?

    • @CatsWearingMakeup
      @CatsWearingMakeup  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      once you put down the eye primer, gently tap on some powder over it with a brush. you can use a 'skin tone' eyeshadow, or whatever face powder you like to use. this will create a dry base for you to build your shadows on!
