This Conflicts with what Mickey Jones said in his movie, The 1966 World tour (The Home Movies), "I introduced Bob to Otis at the Whisky a Go Go, Bob played it for him, Otis said he loved it and wanted to record it, but never did because of the plane crash"..
Yep, the problem with talking about the past is that, no matter how sincere we are or how convinced we are we remember certain moments exactly as they happened, our memories do change over time. Of course, we remember the factual basics such as which schools we went to, when we married etc etc, but the details about events do change as our minds reconstruct past events. There is probably some degree of truth to Robbie's recollections and likewise to Mickey's recollections, but it's highly doubtful that anyone who was present would be able to produce a definitive, truthful version after a couple of decades have passed. Some fascinating neurological studies pertaining to our (flawed) memory functions explain the processes much better than I can do here.
Otis could have just changed the words to something that had truth to him and make it work for him. Sounds like he had a change of heart about the song and Phil Walden was just making an excuse for Otis.

Well Glen - I saw Paul McCartney in 2012 in Montreal - that would have made him 70 years old at the time - in that concert he played non-stop with no breaks for 3 hours and 15 minutes - vocals - electric guitar - acoustic guitar - piano . He never once floundered - his voice was spot on - his catalog of original songs was unparalleled. He was a master of song and performance. Now I realize that along with the territory there are some human flaws but this is such a minor point in the overall portrait of the man. I believe Robbie Robertson deserves the same courtesy. Just saying .....
