Back in the day Dylan was much more accessible. I have a story of our(his and mine together) drinking escapades during Mardi gras 1964.... will gladly tell for free access to your site. i also have stories about Frank Wakefield which by itself should increase your fan base, it is just that good.

I've got a good Dylan story...maybe not great but I heard it First Hand and I liked it. I saw him only once in '88 with GE Smith. Damn PROFESSIONAL show. This was in Winnipeg and Bob was staying at the Hotel Fort Garry. The next day I went to visit my friend Rick at his pet store and told him I saw Dylan last night. He said "So did I." Oh did you like the concert I asked. No I saw him at the bar in the basement of the Hotel he replied. NOW the interesting part...Bob has been there for a couple of nights already and kind of has the run of the place and my friend Rick had a contract to maintain the aquariums in the bar. Rick shows up at closing time to work and the place is empty except for the waitress and Bob. So they strike up a conversation with beers and it's getting late so the waitress/manager leaves them alone with access to the draft keg and goes home. Here's the kicker...Rick didn't know WHO Bob Dylan was or at least who he was talking with all evening UNTILL they were walking out in the wee hours and the keg was DRY and Rick saw the Poster on the door! He said something like OH You're HIM. You'd have to know Rick to fully appreciate the circumstance. AND part way thru Rick telling me this, his big ego buddy strolls in and in a snide, scoffing, disbelieving tone says "You talked with Bob Dylan last night?!!!" Nonchalantly Rick replied "Yeah...smoked a joint with him."

@@jeffbryan3224 that is a great story, and your friend didn't know is cool.. Hard to believe he didn't but I know it was pretty long time. I recall GE Smith telling how he got the gig with Dylan. Thanks for telling it.

    • @jeffbryan3224

@@garytrew2766 Like I mentioned you'd need to know Rick to fully appreciate his attitude...I remember he had a killer stereo but not a clue what to play on it. lol ONE more thing...I asked him what they talked about. He didn't elaborate. He just said "spirits". I saw the GE "job interview/audition" story as well...THAT was cool! Bob was the BOSS but GE was the "conductor" I remember EVERY number ending with GE signaling and waving his arms at the band...SUPER TIGHT! It was really nice night for ME too...Total FLUKE that I went to the show...Another friend of mine had an extra ticket...

I knew Kenny Vaughn was a great guitarist, but my respect for him grew even more on one of Marty Stuart’s television shows. During the inspirational segment of the show that night, Connie Smith sang the Molly O’Day version of Hank Williams’ “Singing Waterfall”. Kenny was playing a Martin acoustic guitar and when it came his time for the instrumental break, he played Lynn Davis’ guitar break from the original recording pretty much verbatim. That reassured me that he had studied that recording and didn’t just throw something in there. Thanks, Kenny.

Bob Dylan shaped my view of reality with his poetic lyrics. I grew up in the sixties and his music was a staple in my record collection. He put a different spin from the old time rock and roll on my turntable. Hallucinogenic substances made me think I understood the lyrics, but after they wore off, I was still perplexed as to what he was singing about. One of Americas finest singer songwriters who will always remain relevant even during changing times

I've been a Dylan fan since my dearly departed brother introduced me to him when i was 12/13 years old. Hearing songs like Hollis Brown, Pawn in the game, Hattie Carrol forced me to read about her as well as Emit Till and others and I could never understand and still don't understand why i wasn't being told about these people and stories in school, but instead about the great british empire and their murderous ways. These songs and most Dylan songs have and still have a profound effect on me, actually educated me more than anything i ever learned in school. Then there is that mystery that all Dylan fans know about, something mysterious and magical about him that he almost doesn't seem human. I think i would hate to meet him because I want him to remain this untouchable, enigmatic figure that i have of him. While there are many great songwriters, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Jason Molina, Willie Nelson, Townes van Zandt being just a few, Dylan is beyond great. He's the best that's ever been and by an absolute distance and for the most part, even most other musicians say the same. Thanks for this, Otis. Hope you're doing well, friend.

I grew up in a tiny town in a tiny country at the bottom of the South Pacific , when I heard Subterranean Homesick Blues ( on AM radio ) it blew MY 13 year old mind too . I tried to buy the rekkid at both of the two local shops that purveyed vinyl , and neither had it or wanted it . I ordered it via the slightly hipper of the two shops and they made me pay for it up front ! Totally worth it .

I've watched a lot of your Kenny Vaughan videos. He's just a natural storyteller, but what I like most is nobody is more amused by his stories than Kenny himself and it's hard not to laugh along with him. He seems to like people in general and never judges or talks bad about the artists he tells stories about, and I like that about him too.

Saw Kenny Vaughan with Lucinda at Slims in SF. Tastiest guitar licks ever and he was so relaxed. I was digging the show and he made eye contact and nodded. Was a nice gesture, and made me smile. I love Kenny’s stories, his dry humor and perfect timing.

I love Kenny’s stories, and how excited he is, despite his own stature, at meeting all these music luminaries! I owned/operated/stage managed an “International Roots and Blues Festival “ in Canada, a three day event. At least two dozen past and present bluesmen/rockers/country players, and their bands - John Mayal to James Cotton - Jeff Healey to Little Feat - Dr John to Steve Earle - Hubert Summlin to Willie Big Eyes Smith - Johnny Winter to……we’ll, you get the idea. I spent from 2001 to 2012 being totally star struck every summer - and boy, did I love it!
    Cheers Kenny

      @HoyaSaxaSD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Caperhere Not sure where you live, but if you can catch any of his upcoming shows, and it is even close to being financially feasible, I would encourage you to fly or drive to a different state if necessary and see him live before he passes.
That was certainly a bucket list item for me, and I was able to enjoy it with my teenage sons (who are huge Dylan fans) when we saw him March 2022 in Tucson. He actually sounded great, and the acoustics at least at that venue were unparalleled. It was an intimate venue and the tickets actually weren’t that expensive ($55 maybe?).
So I would encourage you to take that big step and try to make it happen. You will never regret spending the extra cash and being able to be one of the few people for the rest of your life who can say they saw the unparalleled Bob Dylan live.

I was lucky enough to have seen Dylan and Haggard in San Antonio, TX.
Merle did a great set and received a standing ovation.
Dylan had set up in the back of the stage. Our seats were in the left side of the balcony.
We got to hear Dylan but never saw him.
We saw him again in Grand Prairie, TX . Mark Knoppler opened for him.
Dylan did the same thing! Again, we can't see!

His whole band dressed in black.. interesting folks.. good time.. in Detroit Michigan.. mom and brother were there too.. xo.. 🤍💚🎼💙🕊

I'm just 3 years older than Kenny (at 71), so all his musical references ring so true for me. Still remember being schooled in the counterculture at age 14 by "Subterranean Homesick Blues" (who can hear that song now and not see Dylan flipping the lyrics cards in the black and white video?). It was his first charting single in the U.S. (at #39), but went to #10 in England. Nice to know that Dylan acknowledges the influence of Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" on the song's rapid-fire lyrics. My Mt. Rushmore of rock and roll-era lyricists features Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell.

I just love Kenny! Of course he's one of the greatest pickers breathing air, but setting that aside, it's just so apparent that he REALLY loves the music and being around great musicians. You can just see he loves it like a kid who dreams to be there one day, but Kenny IS there, and yet that organic love for the music is still just as damn strong and honest as it probably was when he was just a lad dreaming hard 'bout it. What about Kenny's sense of humor, yea! And how he delivers those beautiful stories, like dropping in the voices of cats like Bob and Hagg. Now, I don't have the luxury to know Kenny, but my guess is that if you're damn lucky enough to count Kenny as one of your pals, why I'd bet anything he's probably way high on your list of your favorite mates to hang around with.

"Hey! I'm Bob! I'm Bob!" Like the man needs an introduction. As if nobody would recognize him.
