It's not that they don't care, some people avoid danger. Yes it is good to stick up for people, but if you notice, especially the Asians ( Indians and philpinos ) they avoid the situation. There is no point in sticking up for a mom if the pervert has a gun or knife and ends up shooting you or killing you instead. This shit happens and if you think about it, death for these bystandards could have been avoided had they not interfered with others business
Also, it is the sole responsibility of the woman to get out of that escalator as soon as possible, although it's a prank, the people that chose to get out realised that the woman was not leaving. They probably thought the woman was deleriouse in the fact that she didn't get out for the safety of her child or herself. Btw, this is America, anyone could be mentally ill, especially touching kids like that infront of others. It's just as likely they could stab you or kill you. Why Interfere with them, when you could just go about your day. If a woman choses to stay in the escalator, then shes a lost cause.
