    You guys are hilarious! And hey thanks so much for the tips. I was thinking the same thing as 99% of the others, I don’t have a jack like that. How am I going to pop that tire off the rim? Then you gave us a workaround. I don’t know if I’ll ever run my tire over with a car but it made me giggle and say “that works”

    guys you just saved me a trip to the tire shop, and what where the odds I also had some rocks in there, so I just took out the wheel of the cherokee and did it with the same xj just needed a jackstand to be safe.... this idea would never come to my mind by itself, thanks again guys!!!

    Awesome video! I used a pair of 2x4s to break the bead seal on tires years back. Place the wheel on the ground next to something heavy (like your XJ). Stand a short (1-2 foot long) 2x4 up on bead, then use a real long 2x4 and your XJ for leverage to push the short 2x4 down into the bead.
    Hopefully that makes some sense. It's hard to explain in a comment but it actually works! Happy wrenching!

    Another tip is to apply Dawn (brand) dish soap around the tire bead, as it tries to dry it will thicken into a gluey like compostion and seal many of the small rim leaks.

    • @botiroti1
      @botiroti1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Papa Jon do you need to break the bead seal?

    • @papajon6715
      @papajon6715 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we use it also as a lubricant to make installation easier, it must be between the rim and the tire. I have also used the fluorescent green Slime (brand) where some was used and then the tire positioned with the rim leak down and then driven/ridden around. This is especially useful in pitted steel agricultural rims that sit out in the rain for years.

    To unseat the rim, more people have a bottle jack and that will work under a truck bumper or even under some cars.
    Driving up on the tire with a car might be hard and could damage the tire you're trying to unmount. Put a board across it making it into a ramp and it's easier to drive up onto and then the board presses down on the sidewall and you can control how much it compresses it (have someone tell you when to stop when it unseats). It's much safer and easier.

    I swear I saw green tire slime inside that wheel at 2:10. This stuff is highly corrosive to alloy wheels. If it still leaks after your procedure, try using bead sealer on the rim. And NEVER use slime on road going stuff.

    • @PabstBoys

    So how much would a tire shop charge to do something like this? I'm guessing It should be pretty cheap right? It should be something like $10-$15 to get this done. I'm selling some wheels that come with almost new tires and one tire has a very small leak at the bead, I noticed while washing them. And I would hate to sell them like that.

    didnt know wire brushing only is enough , thougt paint was needed like zink spray, will try this maybe . easy way .could try painting too with tire on. bead on wet or dry. once used putty for bead sealant gray thick not very silicony. worked well on vespa scooter wheel . and normal jack can be used two jacks under front side behind front wheel cos engine holds down one to hold car up near middle or behind, tire undercar side, jack foot on bead top under car on normal jack place.

    • @jcrosato
      @jcrosato 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually not most of the time. You normally need to brush away the corrosion, and apply bead sealer. It's a tar like substance. Also, if you breaking the bead of the tire like this.. I would be careful not to have the valvestem in the same section you are breaking it like they did, usually most vehicles will have TPMS sensors there and they can easily break.
      And pleasse don't run over your tire with a vehicle to break the bead.. That could easily damage the sidewall of the tire...

    My usual method is to remove one of the front wheels and lower the brake disc down onto the tyre. If you have a small car you pretty much _have_ to use the front disc, as the back of the car is far too light to break the seal.
    Or I suppose you could load up the boot (trunk) of the car with heavy things.

    I have had personal experience about this. The truth is this method is ONLY a temporary fix. If it's leaking around the rim it meant that the rim is warped or has a split.

    great video on how to reseat a bead! and proof that the combination of beer and hollywood are making people think they need to act like dum and dummer to look cool. the video was cool without the nonsense! but i guise if stupid sells video likes. Than stupid is as stupid does!
