Hard work my dude. Nobody is born out of the womb knowing how to use pencils and charcoal. This dude has talents with his visual ability as well as memory, imagination as well as creativity, but hard work is what made him even be able to use it. I'm sure you've noticed this in your own personal endeavours as well. Things that you're good at now usually are things that you spent a very long time doing.

Art really is an amalgamation of ideas coming together. Something as simple as putting your canvas upright and using charcoal dust to fall off to create the effect of it dripping down is wonderful. Its beautiful

Ouch . The music . The sounds of the chalk being applied to the paper . The finished product . The countless hours this person put into learning their craft . I felt nothing but the pain in this beauty . Very Wonderful work here .
This was the first video I watched by MadCharcoal. I was instantly fascinated by charcoal art and how cool you could make a face look with a couple of random strokes. I've just bought my first set of charcoals and supplies. Thank you for inspiring me, MadCharcoal.
Your art is so much more than the finished product. Your videos really bring out your art style and make the piece so much more enjoyable to see. I'm sure everyone here's favorite part is the transformation of seemingly hapazardly- placed strokes of charcoal to a truly beautiful and recognizable whole.
My interpretation of seeing this for the first time; He gave so much of his essence away to heal others, he almost lost it all, until by divine plan he was able to save what was left of his battered soul for his own healing.
As I think of the Psalms - The smears to me represent the lamenting and grief we can read in the Psalms. The head appearing through the smears reminds me that out of our laments and griefs, we still can see hope - as we also read many of the hopeful in distress Psalms. To me, This piece really captures the tension of lament and hope of the Psalms
I'm much more strategic in my approach to putting down the loose charcoal only using the dust from a dry stick acquired from sanding it over the area where I want it. Less erasing subsequently and more control, but still has the feel of spontaneity
