i kinda noticed that with glr's comment on trebol thats kinda is a thing i noticed about with dressrosa that maybe why i didnt like the arc, there were a lot of characters that couldve been reworked(like given fights for other strawhats while giving the other characters a different role.) or taken out. also yeah the trebol voice is scarily spot on to the anime's voice.
I will say that I am no means a fan of Hody Jones, BUT I do think that his shallow plans and intentions were important because they highlighted a bigger issue: what happens when activists forget the meaning of their own message. Remember that Fisher Tiger was against humanity for well-founded reasons: they were tyrants, looked down on fishmen, enslaved their race, etc. However, they would never turn their back on a slave, human, fishman, or otherwise. Plus, they weren't 100% opposed to Otohime's goals and visions; rather, they saw them as being unreachable without force. Fast forward to Hody Jones, who carries the anger of that movement with none of the soul. Fisher Tiger's message was not passed down, not communicated properly to future generations and as such, the New Fishman Pirates aren't really fighting for anything. Contrast this with Shirahoshi, who learned from her mother and took those lessons to heart and actively strove to mend the relationship between humans and fishmen. Hody Jones by himself is a bad villain but I think he's supposed to be flat in order to show how without properly understanding what you're fighting for, you will inevitably be defeated. He is a shadow of a formerly noble cause that took up the burden, the anger, without understanding the reasoning, logic, or ideals. Edit: I forgot to mention Arlong. While Arlong is a MUCH better villain, they were used differently. Arlong was "humanity terrorized us and so we're going to prove how strong we are by terrorizing them!" It's a selfish desire to make his group strong instead of Hody Jones, who mistakenly assumes he's doing it for the good of all fishman kind. Essentially, Arlong knows he's the bad guy and embraces it because he thinks humans deserve it. Hody Jones thinks he's the hero his people need without understanding the burden of that.
Also what cemented Hody Jones as actually a good villain was the line where Hody was asked what had happened to him, what made him this way. The truth is nothing. Oda makes a point in Fishman Island arc that sometimes people hate without any real reason to, they are radicalized and become extremists and the hate perpetuates itself. There is no reason why Hody Jones would destroy Fishman Island, he's a megalomaniac and sometimes a villain doesn't need a tragic backstory to be a 'good villain'. People hate on villains like Enel for the same reason, villains are not better villains because they're tragic, that's just a type of villain.
@@PTaoify I really think that Hody was the way he was BECAUSE humans did nothing to him. He didn't interacted with humans in any way. In fact it shows that the less you know a group of people, the more hateful you can be towards it. Hody only knew about humans via the story other fishmen and in particular Arlong told him. He never once thought about "humanizing" humans and all he learnt about them was that they were the bad people, that need to be removed in any way possible to make his people, the only "real" people thrive. At that is a good mirror to our current world, where we can always see that the places where extreme right, racist and/or anti-immigrates politics gets the more votes is where the immigrates and non-white people are the less present (I am talking about occident ofc), often places where a non-white have never set a foot. That means that, exactly like Hody, those people have never had any "human" interaction with other kinds, and the only information they know about them is through deshumanized and biased TV news, and anecdotes (mostly bad ones) from another persons.
tesseract both of you gave valid points, and I want you to know that I appreciate what you are doing. It just goes to show the genius of Oda in which he is able to write a ‘bad’ villain which isn’t bad at all, subverting all expectations on always needing a 3 dimensional, relatable antagonist. Some people are bad because they are evil by nature, that is just how it is. He then goes to prove that he also knows how to write an incredible villain with do flamingo.

Well personally I get irrationality when it comes to racism. But there has to be some reason for it. They show that Hody's irrational hatred comes from hearsay. Adults saying how much they hate humans. But okay...that's it? I'd argue Orihime taught and spoke of peace with humans many times over what he's heard about human. And even if he didn't...hearsay being enough of a justified reason to have your queen executed and your home destroyed...that just doesn't make any sense. Yeah the obvious answer would be that he's a psychopath but compare say Doflamingo. It's a pretty easy stretch to show how kid him turn into the monster we all know today. @@Monty2289 you realize Hody thinks humans killed Tiger right? His hero? He also grew up with people like Arlong as his influence. Its not just simple hearsay. Have you never met or known people who hate a group of people because of what happened to others? Some Black people never affected directly in any way by racism still hold grudges against white people.
@@Monty2289 No the main reason for racism is indeed ignorance. You want to make the dialogue you wrote seem absurd, but this is more or less what could happen, and what happens IRL. Do you want to know why ? Because "humans" is just a word in this situation, and it is far easier the direct our hate toward a word than toward a fellow being. This is the main difference beetween Arlong and Hody, although they had both the same "base" hate, Arlong directly interacted with humans, where Hody never did (apart for killing them but at this point it was already too late). And whether he liked it or not Arlong had no choice to see the nuances and shades of the humanity, and so even if its ideology was horrible, he could be reasonable and acknowledge humans that could be worthy in his eyes (Nami, Nezumi and even a little Koala). Hody on the other hand never had to see those shades, and that's why it's ideology had lost absolutely all connection with reality, and seemed so absurd.
Evironmental hate vs nurtured hate. Arlong experienced firsthand what humans are like and his hate was nurtured through that. Hody however, never experienced human hate like Arlong did and instead allowed his environment to shape his hatred towards humans . Sound familiar?

Hey GLR! Idk if you know about this already but I recommend you check out "One Pace", an edited version of the anime that cuts out all types of filler scenes (reaction shots, extended scenes, repeated flashbacks etc..) and the editing is a lot smoother than one would initially assume. The editors managed for example to get Dressrosa's 100 chapters edited into 48 episodes, as opposed to the actual anime's 100+ episodes and it's made the content a lot more enjoyable.
The Foxy arc was actually the first arc I saw and then I realized I’m on episode 300 or something and watch One piece from the beginning but I enjoyed Foxy and his arc
I loved it, one of the arcs I constantly come back to watch. It was a relaxing arc for me, a break from the bazaar storyline and just shows the crew in a competition setting
What a true blessing it is to have a video from GrandLineReview uploaded in the month of my birthday. And the sequel to a video that was uploaded on my birthday is a Plus Ultra thing. Keep up the good work, GrandLineReview!
And, I love Foxy. He should be a division Commander for the Straw Hats. I still believe that Oda introduced him for a bigger reason than the Davy back fight.
Can someone explain this to me. It’s clear that shanks doesn’t have a devil fruit nor wants one for whatever reason. And judging from Luffy’s backstory the reason he doesn’t want one is because u won’t be able to swim anymore. But now that he only has one arm, why doesn’t he get a devil fruit now?
I like the extension of the anime Davy Back Fights. Partially because this was how i got reintroduced to One Piece (it was on Toonami and I checked it out, realized this was where I left off years ago).
I kinda liked baby 5 and her cute relationship with her ...wait fuck I frogot his name, yah that's the point neither of them got the respect they deserve, yet they we're all made to be unlikeable
Hex I liked some of them lol, but the rest were meh for me. Not so much “awful”, only Trebol managed to get there for me, but yeah. Some of their designs were cool in my opinion, like Dellinger, Sugar, and Gladius, but I reckon the thing that makes me tolerate them more than most is probably their bond and relationship with one another 😅
In regards to Hody Jones, I always wondered why they didn't just bring back Arlong for the fisheman Island Arc. I mean yeah, by the time Luffy and the crew got to Fishman Island, I'll bet even Ussop could curb stomp him but the arc introduced to concept of the power pills which could be used to build up the anticipation that Arlong has made himself so powerful that Luffy may not be able to beat him only to have him and Luffy square off and have Luffy absolutely destroy Arlong with his new abilities. Kind of like how One Punch Man handled the Sea King Arc. The tonal shift of that arc made you question if Satima could actually defeat the Sea King and that made for interesting character development and world building for the series.
Please make a 101 video on Conis. I'm just finishing rewatching the skypia arch, I feel her balls-out moment when she needed to evacuate Angel Island is highly underrated and an often forgotten moment in the series.
Oddly, when I got through Dressrosa, I actually really liked Trebol, and honestly he felt like a bigger threat than Doffy was before Law beat him so quickly. I never really liked Doffy despite him having a cool design so I may be biased, but Trebol was the ringleader. He just underestimated how Doffy saw the family.
One Piece is actually one of the rare shows/mangas in which I can't bring myself to actually hate a character but if I'd have to pick three characters that I don't like, they would be Akainu due to his discard of human lives and how tyrannically he acts not hesitating to kill his own men and leaving them to die, ordering a full genocide on people who just are curious about history, attempting to kill a marine (Coby) just because he pleads him to stop the war so they could take the injured to the doctor, the unjust "justice" that he executes Black Beard as he just... How he's written just rubs me the wrong way, his power-hungry nature, his personality being so bipolar, his habit of leaving things up to fate of all things, something about him screams "lazy" and "unimaginative" to me to the point where I'm certain that he won't actually use his devil fruit(s) powers to their full potential not to mention that he most likely isn't much of a leader to his crew and probably will abandon his crew to die the second he has the chance to Big Mom, this woman. This horrible horrendous woman who decided to have several children and force them to essentially raise themselves, abusive actions towards them, quite literally breaking the mind of her own daughter into two, causing her own children to be terrified of her to the point where they are pretty much stuck with waiting for someone to dispose of her for them so that they could finally not live in fear of being killed or eaten by her Don't get me wrong, they're wonderfully written characters, but if I was a character in the One Piece universe, I wouldn't rest until I'd personally seen them take their final breaths Not necessarily dispose of them myself, just see that they've been defeated for good
I personally kinda enjoy Hodi as a villain. Probably because I don’t see him as a character. I see him as an idea. An idea that must be fought against no matter what. Hodi is the idea of hate. This is the conclusion I came to when Hodi admitted that he hates humans even though they did nothing to him.
I didn't mind Trebol all that much, hell I even laughed at some of his moments. I'd also contest that he could be removed from the arc; of Doffy's crew mates, he was the one to steer Doffy on the path to becoming a pirate, he was the one stoking Doffy's evil nature.
michael dorsey I mean, Diamante could’ve taken Trebol’s role and it would’ve been just as impactful. Although yea, the “Trio” structure of the arc would be messed up, making Dressrosa a less impactful arc cause’ he made a lot of moments fun and exciting.
I liked this list more than the first one because more of the characters weren't intentionally despicable (like Akainu/Sakazuki, Spandam, Stelly and Charloss were), and even in Hody's case, you take the time to tell us why he doesn't work well as a villain.
THANK YOU for putting that disgusting glob of shit, Trebol on this list. Just about every time he came on screen, I was hoping for his immediate demise at the hands of a Straw Hat Pirate.
I liked Foxy and the Davyback Arc I know I'm in the Minority but that Arc introduced me to One Piece I was surprised at all the hate for Foxy and the Davyback Arc
I've always kinda liked Hody, mainly because he's just evil to be evil and doesn't have a complex backstory to justify it like Arlong. This leaves you with the question, can people just be evil naturally.
Trebol was important because he gave doffy the spring-spring fruit and made him kill his dad and made him become a pirate,he also told him that he’s the king and he’ll get whatever he wants and kill whoever he wants
People don't like Trebol!?! He was one of my favorite characters from that arc! Probably it would go Senior Pink (of course) Trebol The string man himself Commander Orlumbus (loved that cover arc) Gats Viola That wonderful sculptor woman Lao G If Koala weren't from another arc she'd take 5th place.
That would be Pica. And don't mock his voice. You saw what happens to those who do. Señor Pink is the man with the pacifier who dresses up like a baby. The one who can swim through rock and ground. The one with the dead wife and the fangirls.
2:55 Even if he didn't age super quickly it still was a bad plan. After all if he won he would have an extremely tenuous hold over a people who will rebel at any sign of weakness, being surrounded by followers who had not much personal loyalty to him and having to rule over a country in ruin that he doesn't have the resources to rebuild. Arlong did show a lot more restraint. He didn't do unnecessary damage to the village as after all that would just be destroying his own assets. He also had a lot more resources so whenever he was forced to do damage to the village it was damage he could afford. He also kept just the right amount of openness and compromise with humans so that they could be left to their own devises. I think if Jones actually saw what Arlong had become he would be furious. After all Arlong had pretty much entirely abandoned the idea of revolution and was content with pretty much just being a mini-yonko and isolating himself.
What I hate is when the filler eps for the major movies do not even line up with the movies themselves and only derail the main story, such as the eps for Z, the story had nothing to even really connect to the movies, even the filler arc for Gold eps just don't line up with the movies because all of the main cast are together when at that point in time, within the main story, they are spilt up for various reasons!
Trebol was pretty much the only Doflamingo pirate I somewhat liked together with Diamante's design. I hated the rest of them especially Doflamingo himself.
hody didn't even have believable ambition. Arlong was done so well because of his love for fellow fishmen, and his hatred of humans subsequent of that. It was such a well developed reason for his actions, especially after fishman island, even if they were clearly wrong. Hody doesn't have love for fishmen, just hatred for humans, and there is nothing else to his character. Seeing his treatment of other fishmen and how expendable he sees them, I can't really understand why he'd even be so mad at humans at the first place, as he clearly holds no 'racial pride' despite that seeming to be what he sees as his main character trait. I could excuse how nonthreatening he was as it meant we got to see luffy's new powers in action, but a vague respect for his comrades really could've helped make him simply more believable.
Totally agree on Hody Jones, he's one of the 2 reasons why fishman island arc is meh for me. Also agree on trebol, he's disgusting and annoying, and Flampe I want Big Mom or Katakuri himself to slap her down to the ground. Momonosuke annoyed me so much but I changed my mind during the part when he swallowed his pride, and then kneeled and bowed his head to ask Luffy for help. That was a really great moment for his character.
*Watches video while eating noodles, sees Trebol* *Video zooms in on the snot on both sides* *Holds Gag reflex while chewing* Geezus, Oda that's gross.
honestly, all three of the Doflamingo commanders were just kind of there. I mean, Pica at least provided an obstacle and an opportunity for Zoro to show off, but if you removed Trebol and Diamante from the story entirely, nothing really changes. the normal officers like Dellinger and Gladius were great, and had fun personalities. The commanders were just kind of one note and bland in comparison.

I liked some of them lol, but the rest were meh for me. Not so much “awful”, only Trebol managed to get there for me, but yeah. Some of their designs were cool in my opinion, like Dellinger, Sugar, and Gladius, but I reckon the thing that makes me tolerate them more than most is probably their bond and relationship with one another 😅
No way senor pink had an amazing flashback, and baby 5 pica and gladius had some very memorable devil fruits.
I'm still salty about the fact that Shirahoshi being on the first list
she s annoying as fuck, she deserves her place there
“And his design is just fat arlong.”
EXACTLY!!!
I want a full hour version of you saying "Nyeee Doffy!"
The idea of Momonosuke getting pummeled by Whitebeard made me laugh more than it should have
I liked the long ring land arc and foxy was great in it
In regards to Hody Jones, I always wondered why they didn't just bring back Arlong for the fisheman Island Arc.
Tbh, I like Foxy. Specifically because of how silly I thought he was and how he gave us Afro Luffy.
lg6884 The Afro Luffy box fight was filler I think.
If I had to pick a character I really hated, it would probably be diamante (or whatever his name was)
Please make a 101 video on Conis. I'm just finishing rewatching the skypia arch, I feel her balls-out moment when she needed to evacuate Angel Island is highly underrated and an often forgotten moment in the series.
3:53 can we all Appreciate what we just heard
What is mine is mine and what is yours is mine too.
-Foxy
That's what made me like Foxy as a character.
That was actually a decent Trebol impression
I LOVE TREBOL HE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THAT SERIES
One Piece is actually one of the rare shows/mangas in which I can't bring myself to actually hate a character but if I'd have to pick three characters that I don't like, they would be
Akainu due to his discard of human lives and how tyrannically he acts not hesitating to kill his own men and leaving them to die, ordering a full genocide on people who just are curious about history, attempting to kill a marine (Coby) just because he pleads him to stop the war so they could take the injured to the doctor, the unjust "justice" that he executes
Black Beard as he just... How he's written just rubs me the wrong way, his power-hungry nature, his personality being so bipolar, his habit of leaving things up to fate of all things, something about him screams "lazy" and "unimaginative" to me to the point where I'm certain that he won't actually use his devil fruit(s) powers to their full potential not to mention that he most likely isn't much of a leader to his crew and probably will abandon his crew to die the second he has the chance to
Big Mom, this woman. This horrible horrendous woman who decided to have several children and force them to essentially raise themselves, abusive actions towards them, quite literally breaking the mind of her own daughter into two, causing her own children to be terrified of her to the point where they are pretty much stuck with waiting for someone to dispose of her for them so that they could finally not live in fear of being killed or eaten by her
Don't get me wrong, they're wonderfully written characters, but if I was a character in the One Piece universe, I wouldn't rest until I'd personally seen them take their final breaths
Not necessarily dispose of them myself, just see that they've been defeated for good

GLR: Kids do not have a great rep in media
Pearl Fey from ace attorney: Allow me to introduce myself 🙂
I personally kinda enjoy Hodi as a villain. Probably because I don’t see him as a character. I see him as an idea. An idea that must be fought against no matter what. Hodi is the idea of hate.
This is the conclusion I came to when Hodi admitted that he hates humans even though they did nothing to him.
I was completely caught off guard by HEEEEY DOFFY! And I burst out laughing the second time.
Foxy in the Nebulandia film was quite an enjoyable presence, like the film itself. It's great how his arc sets up the big Davy-Back Fight with Shanks!
I keep getting an everybody's free to wear sunscreen vibe from your background music
I hated all of the main foxy pirates. Especially porche
THANK YOU for putting that disgusting glob of shit, Trebol on this list. Just about every time he came on screen, I was hoping for his immediate demise at the hands of a Straw Hat Pirate.
Momo has certainly redeemed himself.
Yo cmon man
Who doesn’t love foxy
Me. At least, in the anime. He was fun for some moments, and his last fight was very funny, but itbwas far to long and made the strawhats look stupid.
Kevin Carb who actual likes Foxy ?
#foxythefuturepirateking
Me
He was the good type of evil
i LOVE Foxy, he was so goofy and funny and such a joke
It's a hate crime to hate Hordy Jones.
I feel like the girl during dressrosa the girl who can turn anything into a toy is the most annoying
Her name is sugar
I actually find the foxy filler arc hilarious
I liked Foxy and the Davyback Arc
I know I'm in the Minority but that Arc introduced me to One Piece
I was surprised at all the hate for Foxy and the Davyback Arc
If there is a version 3, we have a few more candidates as well!
- Vinsmoke Judge
- that egg from WCI
- Smoothie (unless she redeems herself in Wano)
I've always kinda liked Hody, mainly because he's just evil to be evil and doesn't have a complex backstory to justify it like Arlong. This leaves you with the question, can people just be evil naturally.
Do a top-5 best first mates
Trebol was important because he gave doffy the spring-spring fruit and made him kill his dad and made him become a pirate,he also told him that he’s the king and he’ll get whatever he wants and kill whoever he wants
People don't like Trebol!?! He was one of my favorite characters from that arc! Probably it would go
Senior Pink (of course)
Trebol
The string man himself
Commander Orlumbus (loved that cover arc)
Gats
Viola
That wonderful sculptor woman
Lao G
If Koala weren't from another arc she'd take 5th place.
Is senior pink that stone guy with the voice that was so high his dick inverted and he became a woman?
That would be Pica. And don't mock his voice. You saw what happens to those who do.
Señor Pink is the man with the pacifier who dresses up like a baby. The one who can swim through rock and ground. The one with the dead wife and the fangirls.

Even if he didn't age super quickly it still was a bad plan.
Unpopular opinion, but I actually kind of liked foxy as a comedic bad guy
Momonosuke sort of redeems himself in the last chapter in manga but I don't know how it'll turn out in the anime.
do a video entirely in your very spot-on Trebol voice!!!
>_>;
The design on Hody on cocaine form is kinda awesome though
I really liked the VA for Treble!(?) His "nai nai doffy nai nai." Gave me hysterical laughs.
The adventure of nebulandia special really made me like foxy more as a character, so i suggest people should watch it if they don't like him
Trebol was pretty much the only Doflamingo pirate I somewhat liked together with Diamante's design. I hated the rest of them especially Doflamingo himself.
I love foxy. His arc is actually the one that introduced me to then anime
Such a good list. You should make a Top 5 loved characters! I don't.....think you've done that o.O
Hody Jones the poor man's Arlong
hody didn't even have believable ambition.
Mononosuke number 1 for me mate
Good vid btw :D
Sebastiana Barra Nova mine to
Totally agree on Hody Jones, he's one of the 2 reasons why fishman island arc is meh for me.
Hordy made the Fishman island arc unenjoyable for me
I skipped momonosuke scenes so quick even if its important.
lmao same
In Flampe's defense, she did end up making the fight even more interesting, by leading to both fighters getting severely injured
*Watches video while eating noodles, sees Trebol*
*Video zooms in on the snot on both sides*
*Holds Gag reflex while chewing*
Geezus, Oda that's gross.
I actually liked Trebol it was so funny to see him next to Doffy.
I would have preferred if Mononosoke would be stuck as a dragon forever.
grandlinereview: he is destined to be hated since he's a child character
me who just watched hxh: confusion
honestly, all three of the Doflamingo commanders were just kind of there.
Akainu, Stelly, Charlos: Proper Heel Heat
Foxy, Hody Jones, Flampe: X-Pac Heat
