  • How to build a guitar in your garage, wearing Crocs.
SOUND TEST IS RIGHT HERE : • My custom guitar : par...
It's my third build (first was a tele, second was a neck through bass), and the first one I entirely designed from head to toe (although it's mostly improvised).
It is inspired by different guitar shapes that I like: Fender Jaguar, Fender telecaster, Ibanez Talman, Ibanez SZ series, FR series and Iceman, PRS custom, D'angelico Ludlow ...
    Specs are:
. maple body with walnut cap
. multilaminated set neck with 21 frets (mahogany, maple, walnut)
. maple fretboard with walnut bindings
. bamboo PU frames and truss rod cover (thermo treated decking leftovers)
. walnut control cavity cover, white plastic fret dots, custom walnut FB marks
. tuning machines from kluson; bridge from schaller
. dimarzio pickups (evolution for the bridge PU and PAF 36th ann. for the neck PU), 3 way switch; 500k linear and log CTS pots
    . gotoh strap buttons
    . 648 mm scale length, 14° headstock angle, neck thickness: 1F 19mm - 12F 22 mm, 9,5 inch radius, nut is 43 mm wide
    * edit 1: SOUND TEST IS RIGHT HERE : • My custom guitar : par...
    * edit 2: I get a lot of comments about the order in which I do things ("why did you do this before that ")
I'm not a luthier and I work a full time job (that is not related to music, guitar making or even woodworking) so my schedule doesn't allow me to be in the shop for a long period of time every day. It means that what you see in the video is the result of me trying to make things go forward with the resources I have.
    + I'm a very impatient guy
+ I'm not a luthier, so how would I know what the correct order is anyway ? :)
    * edit 3: thank you all so much for watching this and leaving such nice comments. It started with me fooling around in the garage and my phone and now I got 300k views. This is mind blowing.
    * edit 4: this build took me about 120 hours.
    * edit 5: if you complain about me not playing the guitar, I will come and burn your house.

I built my own years ago while still in high school, when I read about Brian May. It was a copy of a Gibson melody maker. Took all the measurements from a photo in a book.....only power tool was my Dads drill. To all those who say they've been meaning to do it.....I encourage you to just get started. Common sense and perseverance will get you most of the way...... and it'll give you a real sense of pride.....The only part I really struggled with was getting the action (angle of neck to body) to an acceptable state.....but wood construction is a very forgiving thing....You can do it! .... .If you want a bigger challenge, wind you own pickups like Mr May did..

This video should be required viewing for anyone even thinking about buying a guitar. This was a piece of art.

A piece of art, a signature of what a guitar should be.

I did not regret one second of the 24 minutes and 23 seconds it took to watch this video. You certainly have the tools and the know how to use them. Proof is in the pudding absolutely stunning guitar of a one-off custom design. Excellent work top of the line. Now I would really like to hear it and it to know what kind of pickups you put on it

You know someone is really good at something when they make it look easy, as though anyone can do it. Great job!

This was like watching the late great Bob Ross work. Soooo many times when you think "noooo you're gonna ruin it!" but no -it's always beautiful in the end.

Fabulous. You honored the trees from whence came the wood for your build. This is the highest form of the luthier's art.

So much work. Happy to see that handmade guitars are still an option.

A small logo on the headstock like a simple drawing or a stylised letter would have been the cherry on top.
