Use the device mechanics use to take off oil filters. It gives you the much needed leverage. Buy at auto parts stores. You can’t get yours off because you over tighten to stop the leaking..if you properly lube the o ring you can hand tighten slightly and the lube prevents leaking since it’s marine lubricant and water can’t penetrate it.
No you’re supposed to use v packs only and the v packs have 3” trichlor tablets in it. The whole purpose of this system is to SLOW RELEASE chlorine so you can dial in and control a low ppm of chlorine. One v pack lasts a month whereas if you just dump chlorine tablets in like this guy, they all dissolve and release into the pool within a week and you’ll have to keep refilling weekly.

From my understanding no, don't add chlorine to saltwater it's a neutralizer

Can you just put powder in the tube instead of tablets? If not, can you use any kind of tablet or does it have to be their brand?
no powder, but you can use any kind of chlorine tablet suitable for pool
