Update! Until this review was published we had no idea that we were sent the Deluxe version of this game. In fact, we didn't even know multiple versions were available- when given the choice, it's site policy to ask publishers to send us the basic retail version of the game. Apologies for presenting the Deluxe version as the base game. Also, as everyone has pointed out, it turns out the Recruiter *can* move into spaces with Rogue Agents, so perhaps it's a little trickier to learn this game than we thought. It's worth stating that even though Quinns was playing with an incorrect rule, him and his friends still had a blast, so the game is - in addition to being fun - pretty sturdy!

Honestly that's a pretty significant oversight, especially as you reference the retail price in the review. It looks like the few people selling the deluxe are after 4 times that price. The quality difference on some of those components is pretty significant as well (the screen for example), feels like that would have some bearing on enjoyment of the game.

I've known about this game and I think it's good, but this is not a good move from the publisher. I'm not sure what's the point of sending you the deluxe version for review when they have no plans to reprint it, other than make people think this is the quality they are getting with the regular. Tsk tsk.
@@TheoreticalString I actually backed this on Kickstarter and I guess the "deluxe version" only came after because my components are all cardboard chits in plastic stand up bases. I got the retail version and I don't mind it at all. The crap boxes are the worst part but cost effective. Plus I like the tokens for the brain better in retail than in the deluxe actually.
Does the retail version contain the 14 expansion modules? That was unclear to me when I first researched the game (I ended up buying the deluxe one, just to be sure).
I actually bought this based on the podcast y'all did but one glaring rule mistake is the Recruiter CAN move through the Rogue Agents space. Unless a SHIFT packet changes that.
As a huge fan of the comic, I can say that it would simply be disrespectful for this game to be anything less than equal parts gorgeous water color artwork and profoundly disorienting logic puzzles that never seem fair, but are in fact, always perfectly constructed.
The comic is so incredibly colorful and mind bending crazy that I wouldn't have accepted the board game if it didn't feature the art, which is half the reason why I am in love with the board game, creating it without it would have been a crime.
Which is a personal thing, I'm not going to buy this because the art is so hideous to me and to be fair, as well regarded as the comic is the art has long been a point of contention
@@Spearca In the case of this game, it sounds like it's great and it's a shame that a substantial number of people will be put off by the look of it. It's notable that the box art (which looks to me to be by the same artist but I don't know that) looks like it has been far more carefully produced because a box shouldn't put people off. Also 'it was never for them' and 'if someone doesn't get it' are just snobbish nonsense, plenty of people who are massive fans of the original comics also have a problem with the art and feel it undermines the writing. Well done, the guy had a vision, but people's reactions to that are valid and disliking this art is not some stupid reaction, it's the reaction of plenty of people both to this game and it's original source material and that's a shame.
To be honest, if I'm in the right crowd, then learning a new game is actually the funnest part. It's like listening to new music, "oh wow, I never knew you could do that with drums/dice" etc. (I happily admit: I've only experienced that at board game clubs/conventions, but it's super amazing having that sort of experience, where figuring out the game is a feature rather than a negative.) Losing track as an investigator, or screwing sth up as either player for example. Is this one doing better in that regard? I feel like if anything this game makes matters worse isn't it?
This game really does a lot to avoid those problems, and is also is much better paced. The mind tokens mean you should never lose track, and the game is rarely more than 40 mins.
Hey guys! I've only recently found you as I'm trying to find more board games that are easy to learn and play but have some sort of complexity to them and have to say I'm loving your videos! On that note though, I want to give you guys a recommendation of a game to review and hopefully get more people to pay attention to because it's absolutely amazing (unless you have already reviewed it and I just haven't found the video yet). The game is Moonrakers and I honestly think it's one of the best games ever. It's one of those games that I just always find fun no matter who I'm playing with and not to mention that every single design detail is out of this world. Even some small rule details that could potentially derail a session are easily fixed with some house rules and I think it's just flawless and would love to see what you guys think about it as well as the game getting as much recognition as possible. By the way I have nothing to do with the creation of the game or anything like that, I just really really love it.
Worth noting that the artist for the board game and creator of the wider Mind MGMT franchise is an NFT guy. Latest Mind MGMT thing was released as an NFT, for example. I can’t in good conscience buy this game.
I bought this game based on the excitement in the podcast and I love it. I actually have played many times with my 7 year old son as the recruiter and that works well. Great review!
"Willfully Repellent" Yeah... that's perfect. The game's art is perfect - and how could it not be thanks to Kindt?... and horrifically obtuse. It's 6 out of 5 stars on the former parameter and 0 out of 5 on the latter. And I don't think there is much to be done about it. Improve the interface from player to game... and lose the thematic home-run. It's both frustrating and glorious.
Confused by the "shift" system expansions. Does this mean that one player is stuck playing the behind the screen guy and you have to play with the same group? Do you reset the "shift" every time you change a group make up. How do you keep track of what ones you have "unlocked"? And as always, the point is moot, as it is sold out everywhere.
It’s quite free form. If you wanted you could just open them all and choose which three or four you want to play with. The suggested way of playing is probably the ideal way to ease into the game though given the rules overhead of each thing you add. The reason it’s not stuck to one side is say if one of the packages have X even if we swapped teams the use of X is informative enough for it to be usable by anyone afterwards.
The back of the manual has 4 separate tables one for each group you play with to track games. But yes, the system assumes that you are sticking with the same roles. I don’t think I’ll ever get to play the game enough with the same people, and never with the same roles, but if everyone has played the game before I can probably throw in a couple of these each game
Yep. Mind MGMT is and are the good guys (at least in canon, they are the reason there were only two world wars) The way I explain the theme is that you are Professor X but with psychics rather than mutants
@@issa496 SPOILERS FOR THE GRAPHIC NOVEL but i think you have this mixed up unless i misunderstood. Mind MGMT is the name of a murderous and often cruel clandestine organization, now defunct, that the Rogue Agents were formerly a part of and the Recruiter seeks to reform. they are trying to create a utopia but through controlling everybody's minds. it's hard to say the Rogue Agents are the "good" guys as Henry is a real jerk but the Recruiter is pretty definitely a "bad" guy.
Sooo we get all excited about the game for it just to be sold out on their website saying they will not be making anymore of the Deluxe Edition...that is quite lame..
For an Hidden&Movement innovative board game I suggest Diabolik - Heist and Investigations by Ares Games. You play in team (2 criminals vs 2 policeman), variable goals, heist phase, and others featurs...
worth noting this is based on an absolutely fantastic graphic novel series of the same name. I worked at a comic shop, and it was one of my favorite things we sold.

By the way I have nothing to do with the creation of the game or anything like that, I just really really love it.
A new Quinn's review. Liked before I started watching!
Worth noting that the artist for the board game and creator of the wider Mind MGMT franchise is an NFT guy. Latest Mind MGMT thing was released as an NFT, for example. I can’t in good conscience buy this game.
Bonkers! Like Clue(do) and Stratego had a baby in a Jason Bourne movie!
I bought this game based on the excitement in the podcast and I love it. I actually have played many times with my 7 year old son as the recruiter and that works well. Great review!
What podcast
The ending was so good 😂😂😂
Mind Control Delete is the expansion to Super Hot
More of a sequel, really
Such a great review! This is a great game, but does take a moment to get used to.
...aaand it's already out of stock from the publisher. Not available on Amazon and being scalped on eBay for $300. :(
This is a 5-star review due to the Pepe Silvia reference
"Willfully Repellent"
Yeah... that's perfect.
Jay Cormier & Sen-Foong Lim 😍
Great game, excellent casting, terrific video!
So wait... The Rogue Agent ISN'T the one with hidden movement? Tricky vocabulary on top of the tricky visuals.
Yep. Mind MGMT is and are the good guys (at least in canon, they are the reason there were only two world wars)
The way I explain the theme is that you are Professor X but with psychics rather than mutants
@@hydnastrident Yeah I realized later. I was buying into their propaganda
Sooo we get all excited about the game for it just to be sold out on their website saying they will not be making anymore of the Deluxe Edition...that is quite lame..
Yeah, that's a shame. I would really like to get the deluxe version.
For an Hidden&Movement innovative board game I suggest Diabolik - Heist and Investigations by Ares Games. You play in team (2 criminals vs 2 policeman), variable goals, heist phase, and others featurs...
Oh yes, this is great and I strongly recommend the Comic series.
Great video, and it seems a very interesting game! I am intrigued...
lmfao the ending of this review was incredible
worth noting this is based on an absolutely fantastic graphic novel series of the same name. I worked at a comic shop, and it was one of my favorite things we sold.
That's likely why they said it, yes 👀
Thanks, Kristine!
Nice to see your rocking the Ned Flanders look.
Been looking at this genre, but never tried one out. Are there any good options for just 3 people?
Mind MGMT is great with 3! In fact, it's probably better with 3 or 4 players than it is with a full 5.
British people saying cowboy words like "lasso" in absolutely adorable ways more please.
Hmmmmm, I am not British and I say it that way too.
