    also good to open the fill bolt first so that you can ensure that you are able to fill it before you drain it :)

    So I put new transmission fluid on my FK8 last year which was ACDelco and did a track event a few months after, in the recent weeks I had trouble pulling out of 1sr through 3rd when down shifting and I swapped too Amsoil and now my shifter is allot smoother. Wondering if the ACDelco boiled up from the track event when I pushed it.

      I need to go to Honda tomorrow to order some parts. I'll ask while I'm there! Both upper and lower washers are the same.

    Did u level your car before filling the oil? If the front is raised wouldn’t that affect the oil level

    • @pointbypatrol
      @pointbypatrol  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I backed the car onto a slope so that it would be level when I lifted it.

    I accidentally grind the gears from 1st to 2nd. Should I change the fluid to ensure no shaving metal is in there?

      It certainly wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'd imagine you're probably okay

    Can you recommend when should do the first transmission change

    • @pointbypatrol
      @pointbypatrol  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It ultimately depends on how you use the car. If you are just driving normally then I'd recommend 30k, but if you are tracking the car then I'd recommend replacing it every 3-5 track events.

    No torque correction is needed, regardless of how long the extension is. If you don't believe that, ask a physics teacher or mechanical engineer.

    • @pointbypatrol
      @pointbypatrol  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't need to ask. I tested this myself after you commented. You are indeed correct. The torque remains the same. It's the force needed that increases. Good catch!

      @@kjechel2691 So for instance when you set your torque wrench to 32 ft-lbs the torque wrench will apply the same amount of toque with a shorter extension (the bottom trans drain bolt here) as with a longer extension (the top trans fill bolt here) the difference being that with the longer extension it will just have a little more resistance requiring more effort to achieve the same 32 ft-lbs?

    • @kjechel2691
      @kjechel2691 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The extension length makes no difference. The effort required varies with the length of the handle of the torque wrench. If your torque wrench handle is only one foot long it would require 32 pounds of force pulling on the end of the handle to get 32 ft-lbs of torque. If the handle is two feet long it only requires 16 pounds of force pulling on the end of the handle to get 32 ft-lbs of torque. Just set your torque wrench to the required torque and don't worry about the extension length. I hope that helps!@@abraham3981

  • @joe2479
    @joe2479 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You are incorrect on the extensions relation to torque applied. The extensions do not change the moment arm (right angle distance from the centerline of the bolt to the end on the torque wrench handle). You did not need to increase the torque setting. The torque wrench handle is just a lever. If you were using a crow's foot wrench, that would change the torque applied.

    Does the overflow bolt washer need to be replaced too? I know the fill and drain does. What about the overflow?

    Hey I have an FL5 too I noticed the gears are very notchy with the oem fluid I haven’t replaced mine I only have 1000 miles going to be doing so in the next couples of days to amsoil 0w20 and AC Delco for the transmission fluid any advice?

    • @pointbypatrol

      I did notice that after 1000 miles the transmission started to "loosen up" some, but I can already tell a slight improvement with the AC Delco fluid!

    why do you need to change that bolt washer, you also do that when changing the engine oil, kinda curious.

    • @pointbypatrol
      @pointbypatrol  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a one time use crush washer. If you reuse it you risk an oil leak.

      @boolji 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@muhammadnawfal1169 Because it's a 'crush' washer. It becomes crushed or squeezed and creates a tight seal. Since you should be torqueing it the same every time, they have to be crushed every time with a new washer.
