If you get a message from an account that looks like us telling you you've won a prize, please ignore it and report the comment for spam. I'm trying to keep up with them, but it's time-consuming, and I may miss some. If we ever do any kind of contest, it will be clearly outlined in a video.

@20:26 theres some controversy with the 15+ top 8 Marcus Abreu vs William Lieu first round match up, Marcus Faced and beat William by deck out during the qualying rounds and other notable players like Scott gearherd pointed out that during the play in first round he played a lass, and he didnt play that during his match against marcus. Top 8 had deck list BUT the qualifying rounds did not.

Idk if you realize just how high quality these are. These are higher quality than most video essays from youtubers with millions of subscribers. Your videos remind me of summoning salts when he first started our before he got big and it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if you reach that level. Idk anything about the TCG outside of your videos but they are so good that they got me interested

This is something about the Pokemon TCG I never knew about and it probably my favorite thing in general when card games/video games do this. A competition series to earn an invite for a tournament on a Cruise Ship is such a cool idea. That would get me hyped as an adult, I can only imagine how cool it was for the kids back then.

  • @hughwest6808
    @hughwest6808 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's also fun playing with these cards in Pokemon TCG 2 (with English patch) for the Gameboy color (and using 99 of each card cheat). It also features Japan-exclusive vending machine cards, such as a Hypno that allows clefairy dolls to use it's attack as well as gameboy exclusive cards.

What I really appreciate of the GBC games is that you don't need to buy or source the decks physically to play and that the CPU handles the card behaviour and therefore a "judge" or third party isn't needed to abide to the rules. It's just a pretty cool way to learn the basics of the TCG and I love it. Best regards!

It is strange that Creatures didn't allow Wizards to use bans or a restricted list, considering Japanese tournaments had already been using both approaches with a banlist for juniors and a restricted list for seniors (one restricted card per deck), alongside a 15 pokémon minimum for junior decks and a 20 trainer maximum for seniors. Eventually Japan would move to the more extensive point based "Hall of Fame" restricted list in 2001 tournaments.

I remember this era fondly. I was a little over 7 when this set hit, playing at my LGS with decks me and my dad made, until he got fed up with me ruining the decks with me slotting in whatever dark pokemon looked cool. Taking 2nd at a local tournament and winning a couple gym heroes starter decks is probably still my competitive peak lol. I don't play many games competitively anymore, and when I do, it's mostly in fighting games nowadays.

"We suggest that you use your own Pokemon trading card game deck of 60 cards. If you don't have a deck with you, we'll *loan* you one."
THAT is a sentence you'd never see at most modern TCG tournaments. I've been to some local game stores that have rental decks for weekly tournaments, but a professional sanctioned event? That is WILD- and an interesting way to get new players into the game.

I was anticipating this video after watching the first one you made, and this did not disappoint!
One idea I want to say that could help give clarity to the demonstration of card effects is to give visual guides/animations as to how they played. As an example, I had no problem following what you said about how Rocket's Sneak Attack and Imposter Oak's Revenge played well with each other at around 6:34 since I play the TCG game. This could be harder for other people to follow especially if they do not play this game at all.
Overall though, this got me hooked. Thank you for another banger.

Thanks for watching, and we really appreciate the feedback. We actually initially intended to have such edits included but didn't account for them when we recorded. We are running through the next few scripts we have done now to better accommodate a visual accompaniment to these types of breakdowns, so look forward to that!

In the commercial in the beginning of this video, there's a match between a pidgey and a diglett after the pidgey used whirlwind. The other player then uses mudslap against that pidgey, but that wouldn't do damage to the pidgey with resistance.

Recently, I was at my local card shop with some friends, and found a bunch of bulk from the sets made by wizards of the coast. We bought alot of it and had some amazing finds like dragonites and gengars from fossil, light flareon, dark flareon and even a holographic dark wheezing. We've had alot of fun playing with them, and these videos are rly useful in seeing what decks were like playing back before I played. (I mainly played around 2011-16). Thanks for the content.

These videos are great, hope to see more from this early era. People often cover the very start of the TCG, but never the eras right after, which I think is a shame. Would really like to see more on the Gym Leader and Neo Genesis era too.
Just a heads up though, dunno if it's just me or not, but I'm watching these to be reminded of the TCG back when I enjoyed it and am not a current fan. No clue about anything TCG related for the past like 20 years, so had no clue what you were talking about in the intro lol.

Yea I remember reading Dark Vileplume on spoiler sites back in the day and traded for 4x immediately. It was so broken. Sometimes the deck would lose to Scrubs because new players hardly ever used trainers. Rocket sneak attack and nightly garbage run were the best trainers. Next are Gym hero’s with stadium cards. Unfortunately I’m on the east coast and didn’t get to try to qualify for the Mary sts.
