I remember the first time I ever saw an emission. Siren started blaring in the distance and I had no idea what was going on. Panicked, I tried to figure out what was going on and then the rumbling started. I thought it was an earthquake, but then I died, but goddamn the ambient sound makes these things truly terrifying even after surviving through one, ten or twenty of these things!
This is it. This is why I love Stalker: in every other game you are master of your own destiny, in the Zone you are merely a visitor and your miserable death will be insignificant.

I was listening to the full video, and when I could hear the low rumble of the emission, I actually felt a slight feeling of dread. Crazy, I got so immersed in this that hearing the emission freaked me out
Anytime I hear that distinct static and crack of thunder in Anomaly I shit myself and start running to the nearest building. Not every map has sirens either so its horrifying as the only early indicator is your pda going offline
Adding comment after one year! Muwhahaha! An early indicator I noticed are the shadows of the clouds on the ground. Juuuuust a few moments before the PDA goes offline, you can notice that the shadows on the ground speed up into one direction. At first I was confused as I thought something wrong with the weather ingame but then I paid attention and it happens before every Storm. Whatever though. Pavlovian reflex. I refuse to adventure far from safety if the weather is too cloudly and suspicious.
I downloaded an add on which makes it so the birds make a lot of noise and panic when a blowout is coming (appx one minute before blowout). It's realistic and helpful.
@@leonecartelreborn9628 theres a mod called Preblowout Murder which has like crows making a lotta chaos and mutants crying out and stuff 1 min before a blowout hits

TBF Yeah I always wondered about that, cause the emissions are basically a result of the noosphere opening up to release deadly amounts of highly radioactive psy energy. And since the noosphere is connected to every living thing on the planet animals should definitely feel the blowout approaching. That could actually be a good way to tell if one is going to hit before it's too late. You see birds and other small mammals running away from it.
Yeah, I think there's a mod now that makes the birds panic and you can hear a whole flock of them start to flee about 10-20 seconds before the emission starts and the sirens start to go off. Adds a bit more immersion to it.

On the bright side I bet property is dirt cheap! You can build a house almost anywhere in the Zone and no one will care. Just make sure to have thick enough walls and sturdy roofs for when the sky vomits madness, death and nightmares!

I knew this was a horrible idea but I just had to do it, before i went to sleep I set this sound with the PDA beeping at the start of it as my alarm and set the alarm for 5:30 in the morning… the way it woke me up was just so bad that I couldn’t sleep the next night of fear
the fact that the light that the emission makes looks like something parting its wings and the way some of the clouds on the right separate at the start (about 1:16) to look almost like angel's wings all just scream "god's wrath" and i love it
One time an emmision occurred when I was fighting some Monolith in the Dead City. Both the cultists and I took cover in some random commie block, and for the next 5 minutes I fought for my life in some of the most intense CQC I had ever encountered in the zone while the world outside looked like this. It was hellish 10/10
My first emission was magical. Playing the modded version CoC, I was in Zanton dodging mutants and Monolith learning the game and scraping up rubels. The air turned dark and an all encompassing moan crawled through me. It was as though something woke up and was trying to stare into me. I tore into the Skadovsk like the rat I was and was too afraid to even be close to any windows. Five years later and any low vibration that can make my house rattle (slowing semi trucks, subwoofers) grabs my attention against my will. The sunset is so beautiful.
Kristian Christensen Some versions of AtmosFear include a Config file in the installation directory which allows you to disable emission damage. You can also place your character at a safe spot and use demo_record, but this often causes sound bugs (like the missing rain sound in some of my videos)

The only stalker game I had played before was shadow of chornobyl in 2010 which didn’t have emissions and I only picked up anomaly about a year ago not knowing what emissions are and my first encounter with one went a little like this: I was trying to get to garage ( which thankfully I hadn’t reach yet or I would be screwed) and I sew the sky lit up at 6pm and just a notification on my PDA: emission incoming find shelter, when I saw this and really really really panicked and started running for my life to find somewhere which i found a run down base but my screen colors started to fade which was a huge huge red flag I didn’t notice and it meant one thing: controllers and I only had a broken sks and not even a secondary cause the idiot me had sold it for 10 more 7.62 bullets… that day i was rapped but I learned something: the zone will eat you alive if you are not ready or don’t know what you’re doing
I think misery had the highest quality effects out of all the mods for stalker. Which is pretty insane, when you consider it's age compared to things like Anomaly.
it looks so cool seeing that hidden ridge with the trees just at the horizon that is revealed every time the lightning and thunder strike for a second or two each time. looks so dope
In Atmosfear those waves have more effects with them so lit looks in addition like sandstorm. Much better, not sure why they removed it in misery. Trying to figure out, how to readd it.
Recently played Stalker the first time. Were I not streaming it to my friend, I would've imploded right on the spot. Emissions are truely at least one of the most beautiful disasters I've ever seen in games.
A bad idea, hope nobody ever will do that, but.... Imagine playing that in a VR helmet set up to melt your brain with microwaves if you fail to find cover during an emission. 😉

My first blowout I was chilling in the Stalker's base and that happened, just rest there in fear that maybe what is happening i need to go to a better hiding place

The cloud formation along with that noise always gets me.
Especially the golden rays, while it looks like it was sent by god it always was sent by death.
for me its the sound, the sound terrifies me. It's like a voice from the sky, you just know something powerful and fucked up is coming.

Just before blowout, you can see powerplant where black cloud is forming.
