Dad says it never happened but I distinctly remember spending several months living out of a tent as a kid and at the time I thought it was an adventure. I got to play on the beach whenever I wanted, we had campfires and it was just amazing as far as I concerned. I had no idea that we were homeless at the time, Dad did a top notch job of making it seem like everything was normal and reasonable. All I knew at the time was that when I told him the girlfriend we were living with was hurting me he packed us up and we left that night.
All these homeless families & children living on the streets... y'all don't care. Children in foster care at risk of abuse... no outrage. But some of y'all stay in this woman's comments worried about her living in a van. Basically a tiny home on wheels... a glorified trailer... and y'all are deeming her an unfit mom, threatening to call CPS to take her child. Nothing but a bunch of evil trolls.

People are such fools. Those are the same people that believe the world runs on appearances. They will ignore obvious signs of abuse because they child is “from a good family,” yet they judge a mother who’s meeting all his basic and emotional needs perfectly. Lots of kids grew up this way before it was popular. They usually have fond memories of the lifestyle itself. The same can’t be said about some of these appearance based lifestyles infesting our suburbs. Some of these people would rather life with a raging alcoholic in a loveless violent home then live peacefully in a van with their kids.

I was a case manger for 4 years. I prefer this, than placing a child in foster care. Children belong with their loving parents who are keeping them safe, happy and healthy. This video may not be your example of a good home, but it is most certainly mine. This mother and child are doing great.

Someone living out of his car told me a homeless person he met recommended to him to join the $10/month gym where he could shower, exercise and have free Wi-Fi. Not sure if that would help you and your son but thought I would mention it.

Maybe he has school or a daycare he goes to at regular hours where he is surrounded by the same teachers every day. His clothes look clean, he looked happy to go to the bathroom and brush his teeth. I slept in a car for months after hitting a rough patch in life.. Not by choice.. washing up in sinks at rest stops or showering at gyms. It really humbles you and makes you appreciate life’s luxuries. Whatever your end goal is I hope you reach it because you and little man deserve it. Much respect!

I admire this mom. Suggestion, Mom: join your local YMCA. If you and your son are on Medicaid, your health insurance will cover the cost of membership. There are showers and sinks in a YMCA. There are also children’s swim lessons, sports classes, and free babysitting while you work out, Mom. Edit: I work in management at a YMCA. I lot of people use Medicaid health insurance cards to cover the cost of Y memberships. Also if you are on low income and don’t have Medicaid, most YMCA’s offer financial aid to folks who can’t afford membership. Membership won’t be free via financial aid but it will be steeply discounted. This information is not always overtly advertised to the general public. YMCA’s have to offer low cost alternatives to people on low incomes or folks who experience hardship because YMCAs are considered not for profits.

Being poor is NOT a crime nor does it warrant CPS getting involved. As a licensed social worker, I don't see neglect or abuse. Is it the ideal situation? No, but he is safe, fed, clean and loved. Much better than foster care.
Poverty gets treated like a crime. Losing a job for having no clean uniform. Thrown in jail because you can’t afford fines. Thrown in jail if you can’t pay child support (regardless of job loss or illness). Kids being taken because they fell on hard times. It’s very much a crime to be poor!!!
The hope is that the child will be taken to live with a family that has money. If foster care did work like that, if poor people really could say "Sorry I can't give my kid the life they deserve" and could just send them to the state to be given all they need, then yeah being poor probably should be considered a crime..

@@liltemcheckDads have had to do this too. What are you talking about? The guy I know who had to do this had a tragic backstory with his wife. She was hit by a car while walking home from work. Without 2 incomes he lost their apartment and immediately went to a social worker for help. His daughter was younger than this kid, she was an actual baby. She put him on the waiting list for government housing and got him a childcare voucher so he could still go to work at Papa John's. The waiting list was 2 years long, it is what it is. He got a buddy of his to do something that let him run a power cord, I don't understand it, but he could plug in a heater and his phone without destroying the battery. Anyway, he got his apartment and went back to school to be an x-ray tech and now he's saving up for a better place to live. I don't remember people judging him. In fact, people would let him shower at their houses and stuff. He would park at the park a lot and use their grills and stuff. He said he was really worried about her learning to walk and stuff so he tried to get her outside a lot. His mom did everything in her power to get his social worker to hate him, because she wanted his kid for the kinship care money, but she could never pass a drug test. She was real bad on meth. So was his sister, but as far as I know, she minded her business except for the one time they got in that huge fight outside the Combs motel and she went to jail. She had tried to rob him and was trying to destroy the van. But then she was in jail so she couldn't do anything. Most people were just impressed he was breaking the cycle, tbh. That little girl was only 2 or 3 when they got the apartment, so she doesn't remember being homeless. They were basically just waiting for housing to open up. It wasn't a permanent thing. Which, most homelessness is temporary. Edit: He also got a settlement from the woman who killed his wife, though. Kind of a monkey's paw situation. I know most people can't randomly do vehicle mods, stay in motels, and go to college. He got a settlement that he wouldn't have gotten if his wife had just left him or something, but believe me, he would have rather had her than the money. And it took over a year to get that.
It's freedom only if by choice. Is she able to provide all other necessities for her child? Healthcare, education, a social environment, etc? I agree there's freedom in not being tied to a rent or mortgage, however it's one thing to do so as an adult with no dependents, it's another thing to impose that on your children. Also, I don't know the context so I'll refrain from judging either way. Perhaps this is a road trip on s vacation, and therefore temporary? Perhaps this is intentional for a period of time to save to buy a house? You may be right depending on the circumstances.

This is so true. Back when I was a little kid, my father couldn't afford a place and had to live in a very small basement /storage room with no restroom. I had an option to live with a family member with a decent home but chose to stay with my father instead. My father eventually got us out of that and into a small home.
Being in poverty and being black and being a single mom are all risk factors for abuse. Single mothers attract male child abusers. I’ve been through my state’s child abuse prevention training a couple times. That said, it looks like she is doing a great job!

She's a very good mother and she literally takes him out to eat and Chuckie cheese, parks etc. She's in a Tiny home van not just a regular van. He's healthy, not abused, cared for and loved. He also keep a nice cut with nice clean clothes. He look better than some kids who are in a house.
This lady just cooked with a propane camping cooker in a enclosed van with a child I’m not trying to hate on her cause she seems super kind but she should take this video down and never do what she did with the propane camp cooker again thousands of people have died from doing this through carbon monoxide poisoning , explosion fire , cancer.. one of my friends died from this last year by cooking with the same exact thing last year inside a tent . There’s tons of videos and articles about people dying this way… usually there homeless in tents but there’s cases in sheds, vans, campers…only reason I’m telling you is because you sound like you follow her and maybe might be able to let her know I wrote another comment trying to tell her but being the internet/youtube she probably won’t see it among the thousands of comments. Dad says it never happened but I distinctly remember spending several months living out of a tent as a kid and at the time I thought it was an adventure. I got to play on the beach whenever I wanted, we had campfires and it was just amazing as far as I concerned. I had no idea that we were homeless at the time, Dad did a top notch job of making it seem like everything was normal and reasonable. All I knew at the time was that when I told him the girlfriend we were living with was hurting me he packed us up and we left that night.

People are such fools. Those are the same people that believe the world runs on appearances. They will ignore obvious signs of abuse because they child is “from a good family,” yet they judge a mother who’s meeting all his basic and emotional needs perfectly. Lots of kids grew up this way before it was popular. They usually have fond memories of the lifestyle itself. The same can’t be said about some of these appearance based lifestyles infesting our suburbs. I admire this mom. Suggestion, Mom: join your local YMCA. If you and your son are on Medicaid, your health insurance will cover the cost of membership. There are showers and sinks in a YMCA. There are also children’s swim lessons, sports classes, and free babysitting while you work out, Mom.
Edit: I work in management at a YMCA. I lot of people use Medicaid health insurance cards to cover the cost of Y memberships. Also if you are on low income and don’t have Medicaid, most YMCA’s offer financial aid to folks who can’t afford membership. Membership won’t be free via financial aid but it will be steeply discounted. This information is not always overtly advertised to the general public. YMCA’s have to offer low cost alternatives to people on low incomes or folks who experience hardship because YMCAs are considered not for profits.

Being poor is NOT a crime nor does it warrant CPS getting involved. As a licensed social worker, I don't see neglect or abuse. Is it the ideal situation? No, but he is safe, fed, clean and loved. Much better than foster care.
Poverty gets treated like a crime. Losing a job for having no clean uniform. Thrown in jail because you can’t afford fines. Thrown in jail if you can’t pay child support (regardless of job loss or illness). Kids being taken because they fell on hard times. It’s very much a crime to be poor!!!
The hope is that the child will be taken to live with a family that has money. If foster care did work like that, if poor people really could say "Sorry I can't give my kid the life they deserve" and could just send them to the state to be given all they need, then yeah being poor probably should be considered a crime..

@@liltemcheckDads have had to do this too. What are you talking about? The guy I know who had to do this had a tragic backstory with his wife. She was hit by a car while walking home from work. Without 2 incomes he lost their apartment and immediately went to a social worker for help. His daughter was younger than this kid, she was an actual baby. She put him on the waiting list for government housing and got him a childcare voucher so he could still go to work at Papa John's. The waiting list was 2 years long, it is what it is.
He got a buddy of his to do something that let him run a power cord, I don't understand it, but he could plug in a heater and his phone without destroying the battery.
Anyway, he got his apartment and went back to school to be an x-ray tech and now he's saving up for a better place to live.
I don't remember people judging him. In fact, people would let him shower at their houses and stuff. He would park at the park a lot and use their grills and stuff. He said he was really worried about her learning to walk and stuff so he tried to get her outside a lot.
His mom did everything in her power to get his social worker to hate him, because she wanted his kid for the kinship care money, but she could never pass a drug test. She was real bad on meth. So was his sister, but as far as I know, she minded her business except for the one time they got in that huge fight outside the Combs motel and she went to jail. She had tried to rob him and was trying to destroy the van. But then she was in jail so she couldn't do anything.
Most people were just impressed he was breaking the cycle, tbh.
That little girl was only 2 or 3 when they got the apartment, so she doesn't remember being homeless. They were basically just waiting for housing to open up. It wasn't a permanent thing. Which, most homelessness is temporary.
Edit: He also got a settlement from the woman who killed his wife, though. Kind of a monkey's paw situation. I know most people can't randomly do vehicle mods, stay in motels, and go to college. He got a settlement that he wouldn't have gotten if his wife had just left him or something, but believe me, he would have rather had her than the money. And it took over a year to get that.

I agree there's freedom in not being tied to a rent or mortgage, however it's one thing to do so as an adult with no dependents, it's another thing to impose that on your children. Also, I don't know the context so I'll refrain from judging either way. Perhaps this is a road trip on s vacation, and therefore temporary? Perhaps this is intentional for a period of time to save to buy a house? You may be right depending on the circumstances.

This is so true. Back when I was a little kid, my father couldn't afford a place and had to live in a very small basement /storage room with no restroom. I had an option to live with a family member with a decent home but chose to stay with my father instead. My father eventually got us out of that and into a small home.
Being in poverty and being black and being a single mom are all risk factors for abuse. Single mothers attract male child abusers. I’ve been through my state’s child abuse prevention training a couple times. That said, it looks like she is doing a great job!
