The pinnacle of a modern Ferrari for me. Absolutely fell in love with this car ever since it released.
Agreed!
C8 Z06 looks better, drives better and is faster by far😳……………and it won’t get smashed at the stoplight by someone’s aunty in a model 3😂😂………it’s a dinosaur and not worth the money!! 🤭🤷🏽♂️
@@dennissmith7214you don't get it
@@dennissmith7214c8 z06 is cool, but it does not look better lol

One of the best car channels on TH-cam right now. 40K subs is just such a shame for the content we get and the work that goes into uploading this stuff.
Also, I love the TE's. Really makes this long like an old Ferrari Challenge car.
Much appreciated!
To this day, the 458 is best designed and looking Ferrari ever made. Fight me.
Can't fight a fact.
100 percent agree
It is perfect
True statement

This was PEAK Ferrari. The 458 was my dream car as a kid, and now as an adult, it still is. I wouldn't change a damn thing about this masterpiece. Not one thing.
Except, there is ofc the Speciale...
I'd make it better built and more reliable. But past that, nothing
You’re a very young adult lol
You still make my heart beat fast, Ferrari
Your review exactly articulated my experience with mine. Feels a lot like a dance partner, eager to be driven and change direction. Spot on about the steering vs. chassis feel as well. Light/quick ratio steering with a lot of accuracy, the weight loading up is subtle and more noticeable at higher cornering speeds, otherwise some could perceive it as dead especially puttering around town. But fantastic feedback from the chassis, can really sense how the car is rotating easily. But of course the star of the show is the powertrain, and honestly I think the transmission is almost just as important as the engine. It's quick on both up/down changes but has some rawness to it that is lost in some newer DCTs like the PDK or in the R8 (which I previously owned)
what do u do? how do u like the 458 vs your r8?
The 458 and the F12 were the last two bodies that Pininfarina designed for Ferrari.
I hate the three exhaust pipes (which Chevy copied for the C7) but I do love the overall look of the car. It looks exotic and sleek which a Ferrari supercar should do. The last NA mid engine V8 Ferrari. I'd rather have a super responsive rev happy all singing all dancing motor, than a torque monster dumping too much torque everywhere. I know in a straight line the turbo cars are much faster, but the whole point of a Ferrari is to apply throttle through every bend, not letting the revs drop below 5k.
Same way I felt about my buddy swapping his GT3 for a 570S. Chasing the power up the rev range in the GT3 was far more exciting. He's currently trying to get back into another GT3 after since trying the McLaren and a 3.0 GTS 911.
@@gazman9468Why did your buddy trade in his GT3 for the Mclaren without extensive test drive first?
@@christmasisawesome9348 he didn't trade it in. Sold one and bought the other. Initially loved the McLaren but had a few issues with it which put him off. The power was impressive but you couldn't practically use all of it on almost any UK road
3 exhaust pipes are a nod to the F40
How did the C7 copy the exhausts? The C7 had quad exhausts and has had them placed in that position since the C5 generation.
I can see the wheels are polarizing. As a JDM lover, I am a firm believer in TE37 the world 👍🏽👍🏽
This is some of the best motoring commentary I've seen. Truly authentic stuff. And I have been watching this sort of content on TH-cam for 15 years. Instant subscription!
Just love those two camera angles which shows driver and road. I wish more people would do this! Merry Xmas✌🏽
That NA V8 sounds glorious !
I'm so jealous of you man great review .
A driving experience like that remains with you for life !
Why anyone would modify a Ferrari is beyond me. But I am not surprised.
Love the spec of this car. Looks awesome. Great video.
Gt3 this gt3 that. Give me a 458!
My favorite Ferrari for sure. What a dream drive!!
amazing. I am buying a 2015 next month. After you video it convinced me to go with the 458 vs the F12
Man I love your video's!
Excellent stuff man
I remember really liking this car in forza motorsport 4. I just love how it looks on the exterior best design than the newer ones imo
As long as Ive love cars, the 458 has been the one. For all those reasons u mentioned in this great video, its an emotional car. Been lucky enough to have driven the 458, Lusso, 997 GT3, loads of fast Audis, BMW’s and AMG’s, even the successor, 488 GTB. The 458 still remains as the favorite. Its cool that we get to experience them for now!
The passenger window view is a great angle. More should you that view. Great video.
Really enjoyed this review. 458 is hard to beat. Long live the NA V8 Ferraris.
This has been my dream car since the day it came out and I was able to drive one for a day in 2019 and man I fell in love with it and I’m still working towards one.
Got to drive my old boss’s 458 over a 500 mile canyon weekend trip. I agree with everything you’ve said. I’m very much a Porsche guy but cars like the 458 show that the way you feel when driving can trump engineering
Must've been a great experience
I drove a stock one years ago at NOLA Motorsports Park. I like the lighter steering personally. Some "sporty" cars tend to be overly heavy. The brake pedal is firm too. I've owned and driven a bunch of JDM stuff and my experience was that the engine was like a B16 in a CRX in character but with 3-4 times the power and torque. The steering and brakes were very EVO like actually. Heavy brake pedal, light weight steering. The sound is like nothing else. I had the quickest straight line speed of anyone who had driven the car that day. It also didn't feel scary like some other cars I've owned / driven (S2k, AW11) It's still my all time favorite Ferrari. I drove an Audi R8 V10 the same day and as great as it was it had nothing on the 458. Mostly the transmission. The Audi kicked in a really synthetic way. The Ferrari transmission is so smooth and instant its crazy.
I remember telling a friend that the Honda B-series was like if you split a 360 engine in half... and him laughing. But it's true though! The flat plane crank Ferrari V8's have a lot in common in terms of firing order and sound with VTEC engines
Very good review! When I get on it, my Tributo is best described as "frantic". Was that Ortega?
Man. Perfect Xmas review!! lol at the comment: the steering is not completely dead like a BMW M car
'like a NEW* BMW M car,' he said, huge distinction there.
My dream Ferrari- a modern 355. Love the TE37 alloys.
This is an epic car that I have been fortunate enough to drive on track. The sound is pure joy! It’s humorous that GM licensed the MagRide tech to Ferrari and later GM copied the engine FPC/exhaust note from them. Would love to see you drive a C8Z. The 458 is a future must-own for any collector!
Sick haha on some TE's
458 is at the top of my goal cars to own list.
Best looking Ferrari along side f12 since the 355 and
this gotta be in my top 3 ferrari list..
Best looking and honestly best sounding ferrari ever
These 458 and f430 with a manual transmission are my dream Ferraris. The F40 is best Ferrari I dream as a kid.
Great spec!
Review is on point but try the car without bumpy road. It’s even more fierce. Carbon ceramics take a while to warm up. Next time put some mics on the outside. The sound is even more insane!
You saved this for Christmas Eve didn't you? 😂 also, Merry Christmas man. Have a good one!
Haha completely unintentional. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
Maybe the most perfectly designed of all Ferrari’s. It’s aged so beautifully.
I’d love to see a 360 or manual box Ferrari compared to an 1st gen NSX
That's a comparo I've wanted to film for ages. 348/355/360/430 vs my NSX . Need to find a willing owner!
I wish this car came in a manual. A Manual 458 would be my dream car.
Since it doesn't exist, my dream car is instead a manual F430
Sick!!!! I am a Porsche guy but man nothing in the world sound as good as a Ferrari
Hope you can get your hands on a 430 Scuderia :P
Wonderful 🎉thanks for sharing
Stock exhaust doesn't sound as good as 488 stock exhaust in my opinion. Put aftermarket exhaust on 458 and it sounds glorious
Seeing one of these in person is really a shock when you realize how low and small it really is.
great job
Great car. I am probably the only one who thinks this, but after driving both I prefer the 488 to the 458. Of the Ferrari’s I’ve driven I would rank them, first, 812 Superfast, F12, 488, 458, F430 F1, 612. All great cars, I am splitting hairs here. Keep up the good work.
Impressive list of cars you've driven. Hope to eventually experience them all!
From what I've read most people seem to prefer the 488 chassis setup to the 458. Is that how you feel or do you also prefer the turbo power?
@@gazman9468 both, and the gearbox is much quicker in the 488
Interesting . I drove the 488 and 458 back to back and preferred the 458 . To me the 458 was more raw and sounded better .
I knew at the time the 458 was an all time great. Best modern Ferrari ever
Definitely my favorite Ferrari
I'm ashamed to say back when it was released I didn't like it. Especially compared to the f430 and scud. I thought it was too futuristic looking, but it grew on me in the last 5 years.
Now I own one and think it's one of the best looking Ferrari's ever.
The dash has s2000 vibes from certain angles
Love how the Ferrari owner wanted it to be made it clear that, when it came to his choice of suspension, "money wasn't an obstacle"
Just a heads up for you I have 458. You have to warm up breaks before you feel instant stop
One of my neighbors has one and his driveway is so steep that he is forced to park it at a storage lot 😢 This one is on my shortlist 😊
Also, I think the wheels are bad-ass.
Pretty awesome! I wonder how the turn in was affected by going from a 235 to a 275 up front, thats a lot more rubber.
That’s what I was thinking, it’s def gonna upset the geometry the engineers dialed in from factory. 10/15+ change in stock size is fine but more than that you’re just asking for problems especially up front
@@davu6712 I think smaller tires give that light, direct turn in you loose with larger heavier rubber, its hard to imagine lowering the car improving things on a 458 with all that delicate perfect balance the car is supposed to come with? I have no idea, outside my knowledge range in car world.
The wider wheels & tires is why the steering & braking don't feel good to you. This car was designed perfectly from the factory.
Don't drive later gens, you'll be disappointed. Great review!
What a dream car. One day, Some day...
The star of the show is the trans and suspension
Lovely car. Possibly peak V8 Ferrari, although they're al good probably. How does it compare to your favourite 911 GT3? Which would you take? I'd be interested to know as we're getting close to ultimate drivers cars with these...
I want to film that comparison some day. 991.2 GT3 vs 458 might be a coin toss but they are pretty different to drive.
How does this compare to the C8 and Z06? Should do a comparo for the last V8 n/a mid engine cars that we have left
C8 Z51 might actually be quicker on a twisty road but nowhere near as emotional. Z06 might come close but I haven't driven one.
How on earth does the ediff ecu deal with those tyre widths, or has the ediff been shut down? I have heard of high speed lock outs and ediff ecu / hydraulic fails especially in the 430 when tyre widths are changed so that could be something to at least note..?
Also, why use such wide tyres when the car has been designed to be playful? Turn in is already very quick in a 458, so definitely an interesting choice to use such wide fronts? This will also affect steering feel, of course making the car feel heavier and more vague (a truck has a load of grip, right..)
On the sound front, the 458 gets criticised for its slightly synthesised sound.. It sounds more like a computer game than a car (especially compared with the 430, which has the same engine). Opening the windows helps with this!
From my own experience, the F430 gives 8/10 of the buzz for far less outlay and feels far more alive at the limit. And you can get near the limit because it isn't as scarily quick as the 458 (still very quick!)
Lol nissan wheel in ferrari 458 is peak comedy. 🤣
The flat plain crank is V8 secret sauce. At 9K firing one cylinder at a time makes it sound perfectly delicious. Having a Ferrari rapped around one must be perfectly orgasmic. While the V12 Enzo may sound better, is that audio upgrade worth an additional $3mil?
How does it compare to the 360 Modena?...(Ferrari 360 Modena vs NSX)..🤔
Very curious your thought on the 458 vs 997 GT3 and 991.2 GT3. As in which would you buy first?
I want to know, too! If this is in the top 5, what are in your top 2?

my dream car, ill get it one day! im ~2 years out.
Why do people put huge wheels and tyres on everything? Makes cars drive worse, not better!
Not always true. Bigger wheels and tires means less sidewall flex on the tire and wider tires means more grip. Both are critical for road feel/handling
@@rogerzheng5718 Sorry, but that's pure nonsense. Yes, you'll get more grip. No, it absolutely won't be good let alone 'critical' for feel and handling, the latter not being correlated with grip and the former always suffering with larger wheels and tyres. The 275 fronts will absolutely obliterate the steering feel, meanwhile the factory size tyres have more than enough grip for road driving. It's just so silly.
Especially when it’s substantially bigger wheels and the car has surely not been engineered with such oversized tires in mind. Not getting it either.
This was exactly my impression when I drove the 458 for the first time, and I immediately started saving money :) This will ruin all other Ferrari cars for you, turbos are not in the same league, this one is probably the best Ferrari of all times, and it's somehow pretty reliable. When I buy it, it will be forever car for me.
This will age as an all time classic Ferrari
It’s already a classic
Any vtec owner will love this car.
Former 458 Italia owner and honestly 296GTB was even more fun and the natural progression from this car in terms of being way more frenetic than it’s contemporaries. I know many will disagree because everyone that owns a 458 is super defensive but if they were honest with themselves I think they’d agree. The other folks just haven’t driven both but will roast me anyways.
I own a 458. The 296 is probably more car than I'd want to own. 800hp+! isn't very usable on the street.
@@christschool I don’t disagree with the 800HP being a bit much, but I was surprised how entertaining it was at every RPM level, even short shifting it the car sounded great and was fun. The powerband is super linear and very naturally aspirated feeling. I remember the 458 being a super agile, high revving, sports car that was top of its class in terms of performance when it was introduced 14 years ago……the 296 continues that ethos
thanks james, valued insight.@@jameswillard1
@@jameswillard1 My local dealer tried to sell me on a couple of 296's. But, knowing me and how I drive, I'd kill myself and whomever was near me at the time trying to wring out all that HP. The car would simply give me more confidence than my driving skills could cope with. I'll stick with the 458. It's already at the edge of street usability in my opinion.
No question the 296 is a better car, just doesn’t look or sound like a true Ferrari, in my opinion. Missing the beautiful lines Ferrari is known for. Very plain looking to be one of the latest super cars.
@4:12 you know it's a California road when you just casually pass a 911, a gtr, and an m3 going up the hill while going down in a 458 italia, just a regular weekend, no big deal! haha
I like this car but I love the 488 more.
Love the car. Hate the yellow tach.
Brand of the front lip please
great car and vid! i’m not sure you mentioned the year of the car🤔🙏🏽
It's a 2010. Added to video description!
This is insane so jelly. Anyway you can get a BRZ TS press car?
I'll try!
@@Zygrene Thanks!

458 is the best car out of Maranello. Albeit the creaky and rattling panels it’s still a perfect super car. I mean, all super cars creak haha.
This or a 991.1 gt3 / rs?
You know what company built their motor and new car by disassembling this motor?
good timing with you NSX video tbh
458 better than 488 🎉
Lucky Bastard. Good for you.
It probably doesn’t sound as good as a V10 R8 or Huracan, but does this at least sound better than other American NA V8 such as Ford Mustang GT350R or C8 Corvette Z06?
458 has a much flatter, more monotone engine note compared to GT350 or C8 Z06. Some would call it uninspiring but I love the purity.
“Over the Miata??” Me after reading the title
For me, the best car ever, despite its cons...
Finally, a REAL supercar in this channel. You deserve it man, super super happy for you
C'mon, a TE37 on a 458, that ain't the way man
Who says money can't buy happiness?
JDM wheels on a Ferrari!!?? Sacrilege!! CH is wrong about a lot of things..he rates the new M2 😂😂🤦♂️
Tell Danny to clean it inside before online review. 1:41
I drove a 458 extensively in Touges in Japan, and I loathed the steering feel. There is almost zero feel, doesn't load up and no road texture. I really did not like it. It was very hard to tell what the front end is doing. It stopped being my dream car shortly after. Literally anything I have ever driven, BRZ, ND2, GR Supra, NSX, you name it, had better steering. The throttle was also overly sensitive, and not consistent feel, especially with the exhaust valve constantly opening and closing. The brakes like you said, you really hard to dig into them. Overall the inputs of the car let it down.
Whoever hates on this car is either supra kids or people who knows 0 about cars.
Good video. But in my opinion, there's no way you hauled that much ass in that Ferrari without driving it before.
Nope, first time. Drove it slowly up the road for 20 min, turned around and turned the cameras on.
I'd be afraid to spin out lol.
yes, but do you really own the car ?
Why he'd make or share no comparisons to the myriad of Porsche gtx cars he's driven is a huge missed review opportunity. smh
Okay folks, nope. Please stop with the 458 is the holy grail in the age of the C8 Corvette. Not only does a C8 STINGRAY beat this cars lap times at EVERY track tested, BUT ITS A BETTER CAR all the way around. The C8 series is BASED on the 458 series which includes the Tributo, but its better in every conceivable way from a handling aspect. If the 458 series which includes the 488, Tributo and other variants is your aspiration then so be it, but you simply are not into performance cars and want something more than just a great sports car.
