Very wise to avoid getting cut, especially with a recovering infection in your body. Personally when a soap changes recipe I don't bother collecting/hording any backups, I have too large a soap collection to worry about recipe changes or soap extinctions! That been said I am disappointed that MWF is no longer Tallow based, there are not many hard/triple mill soaps left that are Tallow based. I was aware that the Kent soap was MWF soap and it's very interesting regarding the scent notes, to my nose I get a light clean soapy, powdery & slightly spicy scent. I wonder if Kent would ask MWF to make Tallow soap exclusively for them? Anyway that Gillette Fat Handle Tech sounds my cup of tea as a vintage razor. Have a great week Mark!🤠

so great soap for sure stunning brush in fact seems to be the only brush i use lately🤣🤣 great razor and my favourite balm out of that case . i have to agree for the money you get a great selection of balms in that case all good really and you don’t need a lot so lasts ages . stainless steel oh yes mate that takes the honing game to another level when you think your done you are only half way there . but if it’s good stuff when you get that edge it’s normally excellent 🤪 just takes a bit more work to get there
Hi Paul. This little brush really is excellent, as you know. It just seems to get better and better, and seems to work very well when loading from the puck to face lather. I think... I've got a good edge. Now, I need to test it 😁
I was looking into getting my first puck of Wool Fat after seeing how easily you managed to get a great lather with it.
However, upon seeing that the new formular is palm oil based, I decided against it. Luckily for me, the community is full of wonderful people, one of whom is helping me source an original puck.
Nice one, Lee. I think Palm oil is cheap and I suspect the change in formulation is purely to increase profit. Never mind about the rain forests!
Someone on TSR has been in contact with Kent and they are allegedly looking for a new supplier who will make tallow soap for them. Supposedly Mitchell’s had given them the new vegetal formula but packaged it in the old tallow packaging. Needless to say Kent were not impressed and agreed to replace or refund anyone with the vegetal base.
Hi Drew. Now that is interesting news! Maybe I have missed the boat, in respect to getting a puck of tallow from Kent. I bet Kent were not impressed at all! I quite like the new formula though, it seems to work well.

You are spot on about the handle of that Tech, Mark. Not only does it not look dated, it looks very contemporary, due to just how many still take inspiration from it.
You made the only decision that made sense with regards to swapping razors, mate. All you bloody well need is another cut, eh!

I have many DE razors and the Fat Handled Tech is one of my favorites. It's very mild. I got my boys started with one of these when they were learning to shave as teens. They are now settled on old 40's - 50's Super Speeds. I go back and forth with different ones but this one is special.

Glad you can smell those scent notes 😀 it is very mild. Kent had 1000 pucks of old stock last week - but people are buying them up quickly. Kent's most recent batch was sold with the old label - ingredients listing tallow but with the new (non-tallow) formula and batch number 9265 on the label. Kent is taking them back for refunds. Anything with a batch number older than 9265 is tallow.
Thank you for sharing Andy. I have ordered two pucks for £13 and free postage! That is so cheap. I rang them up and asked to make sure they were the tallow version, they checked with the warehouse and linked my order, so I am hopeful I'll get the right ones.👍
@@FriendshipShaving Very interested to see what you think. The new, non-tallow is still very good but the older tallow version has better cushion and glide IMO and the post shave feel is very noticeably better with the old tallow version! I believe Kent is now sold out of their old tallow stock so good on you for getting some! I've heard that Mitchell's is going to remove "Original 1893 Formula" from their label to try and reduce confusion (and returns).
I think that is the 820. I had the 830 and it had the fake badger dark band. I’ve read the 830 is processed a bit more due to the band and is a bit softer out of the box….. but that could be BS. I personally like the look of boar brushes without the fake band. I agree on whiskey woods. Smells great from bottle. It’s a bit potent!

I absolutely love my Gillette Fat Handled Tec… love my Ball End Tech as well. While their are mild and smooth shavers, they’re also quite efficient shavers as well.
I like your idea to rate the razor… build quality, ergonomics, smoothness, efficiency and aesthetics, etc.

IMO Soap reformulations that remove tallow are usually not better. I have 2 tallow pucks of MWF. They need to drop their old formulation date on the package but won’t. Nice shave! Great looking razor. Many copies of the Tech - says a lot. No need to reply. Take care!!!

It's a beautiful looking razor, that's for sure. It's one of my many favourites 😁
If I were to do straight razor shaving, I would use one with a replaceable blade such as a shavette which uses Feather blades.
It's a very good way to start a straight razor shave - no stones or strop required and you can buy the different grades of Feather blade, some are a bit milder.

I bought a Tech on your recommendation and have never regretted it. I'll be using mine this week. So far so good. Amazon has the Kent soap and I ordered a puck. The all-in price in the US about the same as from Kent. Hope your leg is on the mend. No need to reply.

Check out "Red Island Shaver". His favourite razor is a Shavette with a Feather blade.
A shavette with a Feather blade, is no-doubt a marvellous razor. I shall check him out again; it's been a while since I watched on of his videos.
MWF/KENT just smells like soap to me.
I've got a tub of both soaps grated together smelt exactly the same to me.
I haven't got a razorine but l do have a flatboy and one side the blade chatters like crazy it just does sit right.

Hi Mark it's really getting up my nose that quality soaps are being ruined just to appease the vegetarians. I love tallow soaps and MWF is a favourite of mine. We have already lost Tabac another favourite which has been ruined. What the hell is going on. Soon we will not have any decent soap available.

Hi Les. It seems to be becoming a bit of a trend, lately. I just ordered two pucks of MWF with tallow, from Kent. I specifically asked for it and they checked with the warehouse. Free delivery too! We are good although mighty hot today. I hope you are keeping well.

Great shave Mark, Nice razor that good razors the old Gillettes, apparently MWF they had a hard time getting tallow as there is tallow shortage so that why they allegedly reformulated their soap pucks Hmmmm im not sure i can buy that reason, i think it is just to be vegetarian friendly i can't say vegan friendly as there is Lanolin in MWF, Dr Harris is still tallow, who know the truth we can all have our own opinions but it does not make it fact, but i think MWF will take a big hit due to their reformulation, Penhaligons reformulated their soap pucks to a Vegetal vwrsion and their loyal customers that bought their shaving soap hated the new version and stopped buying and Penhaligons stopped making ahaving soap and the Performance was rubbish apparently take care and have a great week ahead 😀👍 PS but the new Formulation of MWf by your shave is a great lather and performance so maybe wetshavers may still use it 😁
I'm not sure I believe there is a tallow shortage, Mark. I have no doubt it was cheaper, and maybe over thousands of bars that little saving adds up. That is interesting about Penhaligons!
