Liked spearmaster a ton personally, mostly because it made you super, super aggressive- definitely the most combat focused cat, and I really like the combat in this game
i have a mod that makes it so in the precipice since its its in shoreline they added a thing where you can jump off, fall like 7 rooms and then land in water in shoreline which is really cool and actually adds a purpose to the region
I think Riv losing the short cycles after getting the cell is fine, to be honest. I agree that it makes for an engaging test of map knowledge for most of the game, and this is certainly by design with Riv being one of the 2nd to last scugs to be unlocked, but after you obtain the cell, most of the rest of the game takes place totally new areas Submerged and Bitter are regions that most players will have never even seen the bulk of before Riv's campaign, (I'm willing to bet most people didn't bother with Submerged as survivor or monk,) so there's no knowledge to test. Having short cycles there too would just result in needless frustration
While it’s not confirmed or anything, we do have at least some idea of Rivulet’s origin, based on the fact they have the mark of communication, and the pearl they start the game with in there stomach is *a schematic of Pebbles’s Iterator model, with approach routes to his linear systems rail highlighted,* which is a pretty good clue Rivulet was sent by another Iterator.
rain world is such a good game that it can create a near perfect ecosystem of lizards that doesnt get ruined by a giant DLC, arguably just making it even better
Gourmand slander, gourmand fans squish this goober Honestly gourmand is my favorite scug, the fact it has the highest spear throw damage and can get to a max of 20 damage with falling makes exhaustion very worthwhile. Gourmand is never unarmed if you know what you're doing, you can almost always stunlock enemies by repeat slamming them. A lot of enemies get one shot by throwing a spear, which makes recovering afterwards really easy. Gourmand is definitely my most played scug, I tend to use them to explore regions the most because I can take my time and combat is great.
true true as a gourmand mainer i play him cuz everyone else is too ez and for gourm u cant depend soley on spears which is why i dont think ppl like him that much ;(
did you know: strawberry lizards have far more health than they reasonably should? I encountered and killed one in my Artificer campaign. That dumb thing had like 3 health! 3! For a tiny little scrungle lizard! And then when you eat it, it only gives like two pips- It really vibes like they didn't expect anyone to lineage one, like, ever, and then didn't think about how much hp it should have. Cause of course you don't kill them in Saint's campaign.
I still need to do Submerged Superstructure as Riv so I can't say anything about Saint but I mostly agree with the rankings of the scugs with the slight exception of Spearmaster. I really loved Spearmaster at first because I like going out of my way to commit acts of violence upon the local ecosystem and the lack of a stomach wasn't that much of an issue... at first. Because of course, once you reach 5Pepsi you are then endowed with the absolute pain that is the pearl quest as the scug with no stomach. Now you turn from a insatiable force of nature that drinks everything it sees to a one armed cripple that has to go through some of the hardest regions in terms of both fauna and platforming because yes. The funniest thing of all is that Drought dropped recently with the scug known as The Wanderer who's just a better Spearmaster in every aspect, both world and gameplay and even has a pearl quest of it's own that it can achieve calmly because it doesn't last too long, can store it in it's stomach the entire way just like Hunter, has the movement to traverse the harder regions and only has to go to 5Pablos to finish it, no need to then go to Moon and then all the way back to Sky Islands while still being a one handed sad excuse of life. To me the problem is not Spearmaster itself, but the campaign it's stuck with. Due to that, I have it next to Gourmand in C tier because Gourmand to me has the opposite problem where the campaign is cool but that darned stamina mechanic just carries the whole playthrough with the Plumpus Maximus way down the drain. I wouldn't mind the Rotund Rodent getting tired after a spear throw to make the Round Ball more of a single target powerhouse with a weakness to fighting groups but restricting the mere act of jumping in a game where you have to jump A LOT to get around and avoid predators seems like a cruel joke.

very interesting opinions here, always love love the way you discuss topics - whether they're initially my interest or not. really lovely video my favorite campaigns will always be saint and hunter above all else, one of the biggest things downpour strived for was a mix of both the ambience and esoteric lore as well as gameplay and game design; and while i think that resulted in some iffy parts here in there, saint and hunter are perfect in that regard. a very seamless mix of the two. that being said, spearmaster is still a huge personal bias for me for reasons i.. can't really explain? i ONE HUNDRED percent agree that spearmaster is the most jank campaign. it goes either smoothly or is genuinely awful. garbage wastes is weird. and a lot of people have gripes with the fetch quest qualities/no dual wield (honestly... this didn't bother me at all. i think people are weirdly hateful about the mechanic being locked even though it doesn't impact gameplay that much.) but i love the silly guy and looks to the moon is one of my favorite regions. i like the spider hell (on a serious note, luna is genuinely stunning as a setpiece. and i've always felt comfortable with spearmaster's combat. did every single broadcast and loved it) artificer and gourmand are honestly quite fun campaigns, and outer expanse and metropolis are breathtaking. absolutely gorgeous. i just don't have much to say about the two scugs because they never really "wow"d me due to their individuality in rain world's story. and gourmand's stamina didn't bother me that much either, but it's still not.. good? it just doesn't feel nice to play. rivulet is objectively one of the most fun campaigns and has a more "game-like" quality than rain world usually does. but i'm a bit critical in how it stands with the rest of the game as a whole, and the max-cycle-timer later on irks me a lot. anyways submerged superstructure is phenomenal in all aspects and will be a top five if-not top one region. fucking lord it's good. very distinct memory of resting in the middle shelter in moon's arteries and swimming all the way left to get the rivulet arena unlock, and it is a TIGHT swim. it took a real understanding of the game's swimming mechanics and felt absolutely incredible through and through. in general i just can't hate any particular character or region. there are certainly parts i dislike more than others but rain world is just such a unique game with it's characterization, music and environments. every aspect of it just thrills me! i loved getting to know every campaign through the pearls and unlocks. my Rain World Slugcat Tierlist; S: Survivor, Monk, Hunter, Gourmand, Artificer, Spearmaster, Rivulet, Saint (in no particular order) A: B: C: D: F: ???
There is a history reason for the precipice to exist! The theory that i heard the must is that, the precipice was a bridge conecting LTM and FP it was made for the ancients to go bettwen cities , or , most likely, abandon moon´s city. kinda sad that it was that low on the ranking i really love that region( but to be honest , i think its just because trusted component one of my top 3 Rain world songs is in it, )
the precipe, the artificer/spearmaster version, is fine. this is explicitly the version in hunter-onwards' campaigns that's almost entirely collapsed and a dead end.
S tier - Cyan, because it's adorable and can travel with you in areas you'll want to explore again. White, because it's the most dangerous and annoying, but it also allows you to escape. It's also the only support lizard. Blue, because it's cute, a little cutie, and well-balanced. Orange - packs are cool! It's a shame you can't tame whole packs. A tier - Red, because you know. Salamander - pathetic on land, but in the water... You don't fight opponents in the water. Green, the most magnificent grunts you know. Train - because they're incredibly fast. Moles - such cute and funny opponents. Found in the worst habitats. B tier - Caramel - it annoys me that they don't jump around just to explore the world. Strawberry, same thing. Eels - a bit boring.
Hunter backspear ability is actually useful for his quest, and make him having a neuron in his hand not that much of an hinderance. Spearmaster double spear handling get fucked over by his quest, in addition to the fact that Spearmaster totally depends on his needle That's the key difference between the two! And that's what makes Hunter a way better fetch quest than Spearmaster. That's sad, because without that fucking pearl, Spearmaster is quite fun to play.
I just chose to spawn the pearl in when I needed to with dev tools when I did spear master for some reason. (That reason being that I did not want such a handicap. I already gave up hunter rather quickly because of that. I mean seriously except for Rivulet every item transport quest just ruins gameplay for me)
3:05 Spearmaster is my favorite. i love the spear mechanic. my favorite part of the game is the combat/creature interaction, and i personally think the platforming in rain world is quite easy, so that was never a struggle for me. The double handed spears are great. I don't mind not using rocks i prefer sliding under lizards to spear them anyways. in regards to the campaign i will admit it isn't as emotional as some of the others, but i still loved it. The broadcasts are a really nice little addition that make you feel more immersed in the story. Also moons superstructure is peak. Spearmaster is difficult, but i honestly found rivulet harder. (mostly cause i got lost in the rot)
Ahaha, I really like Spearmaster, actually!:D It's my main slugcat for exploring (modded regions currently...), they have close to basic movement with Hunter's strenght and speed and just a little bit of help from infinite spears. With those you can reach more places, but it costs time and it's limited, and I like that, you can do extra things, but you must really want to do it. Also, back spear is less convenient to me than two hand spears, because I don't usually fight lizards (yes, I like to spend half an hour to befriend them before starting actual quest:D) and infinite spears is what finally made me brave enough to fight centipedes... They don't have significant downsides for me, like Saint is super frail and it's almost a different world, Gourmand has to rest a lot, Hunter has time limit and Artificers scavangers, inability to swim and karma situation are super annoying. Having to carry things in one arm is not that big of a deal for me, because I always do it for Hunter anyway. I also really enjoyed reading iterator chats, the story, the lack of rot in Five Pebbles, Looks To The Moon being as healthy as she could be, being nice and giving food, and it's a fun challenge to find food without hurting lizards, haha Basically, I love Spearmaster perks, their drawbacks fit okay into my weird playstyle and give me challenges that I actually enjoy. I don't even mind going from place to place multiple times, I did it as Monk anyway, bringing Moon all the pearls without passages (Also, them being purple and the implication that they were the one to draw a shelter symbol in Underhang bring me joy) They're probably my favourite slugcat alongside Rivulet, I like them in different ways
The worst part of Spearmasters campaign is the lack of Submerged Superstructure, haha... But they make up for it in my eyes when I get to Precipice and Trusted Component starts to play°^°
Back spear isn't even close to the best perk in Expedition. I'd put it under slow time and above item crafting, but those are all way below explosive jump and high agility. I mean, you really have to face the facts: not picking either explosive jump or high agility is an outright handicap, as they open up movement routes that are simply impossible without them, while *also* being valuable combat assets.
@@CawCophony (colors, salamanders, and eels are not lizards silly.) Then why did you put Nightcat in the thumbnail? also where would you rank Huracan lizards? (also nightcat is still called nightcat, the watcher is the name dlc that nightcats campaign is going to be added in but nightcat name still is nightcat) ( also also by hurricane lizards i don't mean train lizards i mean the lizards that inspired train lizards from the hurricane mod. When hurricane lizards were added to downpour the devs thought they were super too op and nurfed them super hard and changed things like the sound effects, because of this train lizards have as much in common with hurricane lizards as green lizards have in common with red lizards)
Biggest offence in spear master campaign is that you're forced to carry heart pearl for entire second half of this game. Almost completely negating his main advantage of ability to hold 2 spears. At that point - yes he is worst than Hunter.
you're not beating the lizard allegations............... (the allegations that you are a lizard) tier lists are fun: A: surv, wanderer so far (haven't beat) B: gourm, hunter C: riv, da vinki D: arti, spearmaster, watcher probably (doesn't exist yet) F: monk, inv A: red, axolotl, cyan B: yellow, pink, blue C: green, black D: strawberry, caramel F: train, white, eel
Artificer is my least favorite slugcat. They seriously just feel like a mod. Somebody was like, "What if you had to fight scavengers, who are a better version of the player, have more spears, have better reflexes, and the only point of the campaign is you have to fight the funny monkeys. And in the process we will destroy the karma system, the reputation system, and restrict your ability to explore the world because you can't swim and you can't relax cause the funny monkes are EVERYWHERE" and then they made that into a Rain World campaign. I will admit though that it is a lot of fun, but definitely the worst slugcat. They removed too many integral rain world features to fit that one in and it ends up not making sense. Not only that but I cannot immerse myself in artificer. One of the staples of Rain World is that you become the creature that you play as, there is no difference between the experiences of the slugcat and the experiences that you have. Artificer takes this away via two things: the main one is that her entire origin story happens off screen, but her motive is entirely based on her origin story! Also, her solution is to kill all the funny monkes, which honestly doesn't make sense. Genocide was not the answer yet we were forced to partake. Most of these problems clear up by Metropolis though as long as you stay there. Metropolis is awesome. Monk next. I have no reason to play monk. He is a little imbalanced for the sake of making the game easier, starts with much higher reputation but less spear damage. I see why people use him to go get pearls, but I just use Survivor so Monk has no real purpose. Gourmand. His stupid stamina! My other complaint is similar to what I was saying about immersion with Artificer. As Gourmand I can't help but wonder, What the hell am I doing here? He's on a quest that I did not start but that I have to finish. Our mindsets are different and therefore I am not Gourmand. Love Outer Expanse though, and it is fun to run around as him. Pretty weak campaign though compared to other slugcats. Hunter. I love Hunter. I didn't find his campaign entirely difficult, instead it was a lot of fun but short. Backspear: 10/10 Spearmaster. God his campaign was tedious, but I loved the lore they unveiled. It was one hell of a reward after all the time. Dialogue can be really tedious though. His campaign is super unreplayable though. Once you know the lore there is really no reason to head back. You can complete the campaign by going from outskirts to industrial to chimney canopy and now you will spend the next 10 hours in the same 3 regions, and it is really two because Precipice is really short. A glorified fetch quest. Nice ending though, and I love Spearmaster's mechanics Ruffles. I am Ruffles. Ruffles takes a complete 180 away from Artificer in that they have no backstory. This is almost to a fault as you noticed, but it is perhaps ruffles greatest strength. She comes with no baggage, so the only story she has is the story you create by playing her, therefore you are ruffles. You may be a little more even because your actions are motivated by your past experiences in other campaigns. You know what to do. This is why Pebbles doesn't have to mention Moon by name when he tells you to take his Rareafraction cell to her. You know he is talking about Moon because you have developed a deep connection with these characters, and it finally comes to fruition! IT is so wonderful! Survivor is awesome, and we all know why. I remember I finished his campaign late at night with my laptop propped on my knees as I swam down down down into the void. I had literal tears streaming down my cheeks! I can't even explain it but it was almost perfect... too bad for survivor's ratting, the last slugcat is actually perfect. Saint is the best slugcat, and he could have been the entire DLC. Mind you, he only works because Survivor existed, so just keep the in mind. And when Reclaiming Entropy starts playing... I replayed Saints campaign just for that final scene! It was incredible! I have never really experienced something like that before or since. INV: 10000/10 NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!!!!
Funny enough, the “Who the heck is this guy” criticism is one of my really big criticisms about Saint. Saint has no history. We don’t know who they are, why they’re in the superstructure in the first place, or even why they can listen to echos and ascend creatures. Gourmand, survivor, monk, and artificer have a family, something to motivate them. Spearmaster and hunter were sent by someone to do a job. Rivulet and Saint, on the other hand, are completely alone, which is incredibly weird for Slugcats. The only reason Saint visits echos is because that’s all you CAN do; there’s no more unique pearls, no more neuron delivering, no reason to visit the only two characters you know. I like to think that Rivulet is a menace. The aquamarine pearl you take was probably stolen around where you fell from, which is why every scavenger in drainage system is upset with you (there’s also the murders). Why’d Rivulet take pebbles’ rarefaction cell? Because you accidentally displaced it and it makes you more mobile. Rivulet only did their quest because pebbles asked nicely, and they have nothing better to do.
Liked spearmaster a ton personally, mostly because it made you super, super aggressive- definitely the most combat focused cat, and I really like the combat in this game

(That reason being that I did not want such a handicap. I already gave up hunter rather quickly because of that. I mean seriously except for Rivulet every item transport quest just ruins gameplay for me)
glad to see another sait lover here
Lets goo rain world video
Totally agree with lizard tier list.

Spearmaster is my favorite.
i love the spear mechanic. my favorite part of the game is the combat/creature interaction, and i personally think the platforming in rain world is quite easy, so that was never a struggle for me.
(mostly cause i got lost in the rot)
s: spearmaster,
a: rivulet, survivor, hunter, gourmand
b: saint, monk
c: artificer
f: inv
???: watcher
Perfect rain world tier list? Mythical TH-cam pull 🔥 looking forward to seeing more banger content from you
Ahaha, I really like Spearmaster, actually!:D
It's my main slugcat for exploring (modded regions currently...), they have close to basic movement with Hunter's strenght and speed and just a little bit of help from infinite spears.
I also really enjoyed reading iterator chats, the story, the lack of rot in Five Pebbles, Looks To The Moon being as healthy as she could be, being nice and giving food, and it's a fun challenge to find food without hurting lizards, haha
Basically, I love Spearmaster perks, their drawbacks fit okay into my weird playstyle and give me challenges that I actually enjoy. I don't even mind going from place to place multiple times, I did it as Monk anyway, bringing Moon all the pearls without passages
(Also, them being purple and the implication that they were the one to draw a shelter symbol in Underhang bring me joy)
They're probably my favourite slugcat alongside Rivulet, I like them in different ways
The worst part of Spearmasters campaign is the lack of Submerged Superstructure, haha... But they make up for it in my eyes when I get to Precipice and Trusted Component starts to play°^°
I have joined the Green Lizard cult, sorry all other cults that aren't the Green Lizard cult
Back spear isn't even close to the best perk in Expedition. I'd put it under slow time and above item crafting, but those are all way below explosive jump and high agility. I mean, you really have to face the facts: not picking either explosive jump or high agility is an outright handicap, as they open up movement routes that are simply impossible without them, while *also* being valuable combat assets.
i like this video it’s very good i’m not saying this because there is a gun pointed at my head
The only redeeming quality I have for in Prospers is that it's a good spot to get your karma back up.
it exist there cos it's in the dlc,,,,,,,,,
it's not just an Easter egg really it's also GREAT for getting food and karma if you're stuck at that shelter
you forgot enot in slugcat tierlist
You forgot nightcat Inv and train lizards. Where would you rank them?
if by nightcat you mean watcher, they're not out yet! and trains aren't lizards, silly.
@@CawCophony (colors, salamanders, and eels are not lizards silly.) Then why did you put Nightcat in the thumbnail? also where would you rank Huracan lizards? (also nightcat is still called nightcat, the watcher is the name dlc that nightcats campaign is going to be added in but nightcat name still is nightcat)
( also also by hurricane lizards i don't mean train lizards i mean the lizards that inspired train lizards from the hurricane mod.
At that point - yes he is worst than Hunter.
never cook again

Backspear: 10/10
Spearmaster. Nice ending though, and I love Spearmaster's mechanics
Ruffles.
INV: 10000/10 NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!!!!
gourmands my least fav tbh
Rivulet only did their quest because pebbles asked nicely, and they have nothing better to do.

it hurts me how you pronounce artificer

Man your slugcat opinions are whack 😂
