The Top Ten Best Games (That I Played In) 2022
I can't pick a favorite region for the strangest reason. Despite loving the game, even loving it FOR many of its flaws and not in spite of them... Trying to think of a favorite region has made me realize... I hate all of them. God I hate them so much. They're beautiful and amazing but Jesus Christ I can't stand them. There is always something deeply upsetting about them in some way. Maybe they're too small, or too big, or the jumps are too hard, or they're too confusing to memorize, or the enemies suck, or I just have a negative memory with them. And if none of those apply... Then they're too boring! Either visually or gameplay wise or both. With that said, I think if I have to pick a favorite, it's Drainage System. It has the best route to Filtration, it's pretty big, and it doesn't make me want to rip my hair out. It also isn't too terribly boring compared to other easy regions. And it's usually the first place I go after I start a campaign, so I'm quite familiar with it. It's also usually the second to last place I go... And usually I go in the middle of the campaign... It's a hub for me, really. My least favorite must be farm arrays. EDIT: I forgot about Outer Expanse. Gotta be my favorite
Omg Yungatita AND Stomach Book YESSSS 🤩🤩🤩
you know what fox backwards spells?? gay
I had more fun doing super meat boy deathless
No way you ranked monk above sm, Hunter and gourmand
The only actual problem with rain world is REGION PROGRESSION ON A BLIND PLAYTHROUGH. It completely ruins the game for any actually explorative players which dont look up anything online. And the worst thing about this, is that almost noone talks about it for some reason! I HATE this about the game, and I see almost no possibility of most players not going in the wrong directions and getting stuck and backtracking for hours (my blind path was shoreline > subterranean > the depths), but for some reason almost noone talks about this issue online. The only explanation for this, is that WAY more people look up stuff online, than admit to it. Its very disappointing that so many lazy people lie to people who actually give an honest effort towards experiencing the game blind, but instead they are harshly punished by both the game, and other players. Rain World's noblinearity is awful. Bigger doesnt always mean better, and while in Hollow Knight the nonlinearity is perfect (except being way too limited in the beginning), in Rain World its absolutely terrible. I went up The Wall, and had to backtrack, I went back drainage and had to backtrack, I went through Chimney Canopy to Industrial and had to backtrack, and the worst one, I went to Subterranean, filtration system, and the depths, and had to backtrack all of it, but there waa no way for me to tell that to be the case, because guardians look like something you are just supposed to figure out, and only looking up online tells you that they are a karma check. Awful issue completely ruining an otherwise amazing game.
A-tier effort playing on the WYWH riff. Takes me back.
i'd give it a B- or C-Tier for effort at best but it was also my first time touching my guitar in years oops
tutorial not explaining the karma system + hibernation in depth was biggest fail to me. one of the main gates locked behind the karma.
Forgot how good No Joy was until you mentioned it at the end. Man I need to listen to that again.
you mentioned saint taught you to keep a lantern on you at all times. saint taught me to move with urgency and always carry surplus food.
Okay I'm convinced. Saint is the best campaign in Rain World. I still prefer to play as Rivulet because _speeed_ and I can actually fight creatures but Saint's campaign has just better buildups and a better worldstate and... Everything you covered! Also playing Goodbye to a World when you ascended Pebbles and Moon and saying "and letting entropy reclaim it" when reclaiming entropy plays is genius. Thanks for making this superb video essay, it is now 1 am and I'm going to miss school tomorrow because I couldn't sleep. (Trust me I tried to for an hour and a half before giving up and watching this vid)
very cool
30:00 YOU DANG CROW WHYYYY
i can't be the only one allowed to know
The mother we share is a personal 10, can’t believe I only learned about it recently
Kinda sad to see a song I love at the last place, but on the other hand the Fatboy Slim segment was hilarious. "Number six is number eight" was also very funny, happy to see some love for the untitled Sigur Ros album, it's my favorite in their discography but it seems to be a bit underrated.
I like that you use Lobster 2
Seriously though you're so good at talking about music and making these vids
Is that an OMORI REFERENCE
So, my story with Kingston Wall: I was studying in Finland in 2012 and was at a concert with Jeavestone (modern prog rock with shades of Jethro Tull and a vocalist who kinda sounds like Ozzy Osbourne) and Kaamos (70s prog similar to Kansas). The DJ was playing Kingston Wall albums in between sets and I asked them what it was. And then they quickly became one of my favorite bands ever...
Kingston Wall had three albums before the frontman tragically committed suicide. Stuldt Hajt came from that third album. Whereas the other two albums are more standard psychedelic rock (and still very good), the third album drifts more into this style of prog/psych with other stuff thrown in. My favorite song from that album is For All Mankind, while The Real Thing is an 18-minute epic with saxophones. As for why I suggested this one for this video, it is simply the weirdest song I could think of and figured Crow would enjoy it. Glad you've had a good time with it. :)
Lastly: if you're listening on Spotify, don't listen to the 2023 or 2024 remixes. The originals sound way better.
I’m about half an hour in and realizing I should probably be listening to more break core
this is pretty universally true yeah
this is a weird bunch and i respect it a lot
just the way i like my sub specials to be tbh
Wait, i thought Porter Robinson was an EDM artist from around 2012???
you would be correct!
Yeah heard of him through Sean's grab bag. Goodbye to a World is one of my favorite songs of 2012, alongside Some Nights
Crow you need to stop taking me on incredible emotional journeys with your videos I'm running out of tissues.
people need to stop requesting songs that make me wanna cry then helppp
my lifestyle determines my foxstyle
Love your vids btw
Not Russian Roulette being my favorite song of the year… Really though I definitely understand why people have so many issues with Cheerleader and SMILE! :D in general, and it was interesting to hear your thoughts on the song!
I might be the only person on the planet Earth that even after losing billions of times I still continue😭😭😭
It fucken wimdy, but so are the subscriber-submitted songs
You may be asking if there will be a fox. The answer is… Yes.
a fox made this, actually!
While you're waiting for the premiere, make sure to check out my last sub special too! It's still good. th-cam.com/video/CffJjReDq1Y/w-d-xo.html
Devin Townsend reference in the first minute. Way to get me to watch a 3 hour video haha
Gold is saved by two things. 1) if i were 21 again and i wanted to make something subversive in pop music that everyone has too much brains to do, I'd make the chorus stitched together lines from the song, and b) i tend to like the sounds of weird bad things that no one with sense does. Thats why I don't hate AJR like everyone else does.
Oh I'm so glad someone feels even a tenth of my hatred towards Riptide, it is every hipster music stereotype in three minutes, with a more obnoxiously hipster video. Bottom 5 of the decade, even chilling out on music opinions hasnt made me any less hostile towards it
I see the music of Farm Arrays as actually pretty fitting. Most of it sounds... sort of mystical? Seeing as Farm Arrays is named by Five Pebbles as the part of the path to ascension, reaching it felt climactic and I felt the music helped that.
The first few times I heard Tiimmy Turner I was wondering what a burger had to do with anything else. Usually people making the most innocent things evil can be tiresome, but it helps that not only is Fairly Oddparents relatively cutesy, it's also corny as hell, especially with the score and theme song being so, like, 40s "blank and their orchestra" flavored. I think that's what makes it more ripe for horror subversion; it's too dorky to even hint at being dangerous and yet Desiigner does it so well.
You're the first person I've ever seen not say Rather Be isn't one of rhe best songs of the decade, I love it but I love the originality. Also, what a boring choice for best song of the Vine years And for my money Latch is in no way better. 4/5 at best, my God
I have the 999th like on ur vid😮🎉
Antidisestablishmentarianism.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate Saint’s version of Filtration System; Ancient Labyrinth? There’s something so mythical about its name, the constantly descending lights, the void-spawn, the way it BECOMES the depths. You are a simple, lost, unwitting pilgrim, treading a place of legend to your people. Once you reach the exit, there’s no turning back. And that’s definitely something I love about Saint’s world; how every region is re-contextualized by centuries of oral tradition and stories. Industrial complex is no longer a factory, but a monument, central to this strange land. Subterranean isn’t just a series of underground tunnels, but the primordial base of the world. Other names reflect how Saint sees these places; How lonely and afraid they are in Solitary towers, how they feel as if they’ve discovered something Forgotten in what used to be the gutter, the eerie quiet of silent construct.
Funny enough, the “Who the heck is this guy” criticism is one of my really big criticisms about Saint. Saint has no history. We don’t know who they are, why they’re in the superstructure in the first place, or even why they can listen to echos and ascend creatures. Gourmand, survivor, monk, and artificer have a family, something to motivate them. Spearmaster and hunter were sent by someone to do a job. Rivulet and Saint, on the other hand, are completely alone, which is incredibly weird for Slugcats. The only reason Saint visits echos is because that’s all you CAN do; there’s no more unique pearls, no more neuron delivering, no reason to visit the only two characters you know. I like to think that Rivulet is a menace. The aquamarine pearl you take was probably stolen around where you fell from, which is why every scavenger in drainage system is upset with you (there’s also the murders). Why’d Rivulet take pebbles’ rarefaction cell? Because you accidentally displaced it and it makes you more mobile. Rivulet only did their quest because pebbles asked nicely, and they have nothing better to do.
Yay foxes! ✨
33:15 was amazing, awesome vid
Awesome video Id argue though that the collapse of pebbles was inevitable, the rot would eventually eat him whole, if anything you changed the fate of moon...a change that amounted to nothing at the end but still
