There's some small detail missing when unlocking Marco Qwent. Handing data in Procyon and reaching Allied status with Sirius Corporation, only unlocks the Sirius System permit in the Mission Board. - Once with the Permit, head to Sirius system, I suppose any station should work but I did Patterson Enterprise, there you should see a mission for the Engineer Invite (you have to deliver the data to Duamta system, Davis Terminal, very close) and then you get the invite from Marco Qwent. I'd call it a HUGE omission in this case, although I do appreciate Cmdr Hawkes' work greatly overall. This elusive invitation - an invitation required on TOP of getting the permit to Sirius is the final WTF nail in the coffin of the mindless grind to gain access to Qwent. Marco Qwent needs to be very painfully vaporised, and fast.

the data delivery can end in any number of sirius corporation controlled stations nearby (such as davy dock in procyon, or in the nearby wolf system, etc) - but other than this its 100% accurate info and *very* helpful advice, just remember to not keep spamming accept quest, otherwise you will have loads of em and will have to abandon the ones that you then cant complete after doing the first one. the quest is the penultimate step (the final one being to donate the 25 modular terminals) - and has a quest timer of 1 day so should be completed as soon as you accept it, ideally.
I recommend getting all the materials you need to get at least one grade 5 mod for a new engineer upon unlocking. This will save u a trip and let you have a g5 blueprint ready for remote upgrades.

I now know how to unlock all engineers but I still don't know what they do, why I need them, when I get them etc 🤷🏻♂️ I've literally just bought my 2nd ship and done a few delivery, courier and a supply mission... Most of these videos go over my head when the "beginner" guides are intermediate at least 😐
Engineers aren't necessary, they are an aspect of the game. A min/max segment if you're familiar with the idea. It's a way to take your best and make it better. It will give you some great improvements, but you also don't need to do ALL of the engineers. Just look through the ones that apply to exploration. You can gain significant jump range for you FSD as well as lower your mass by engineering lightweight components. All of this is really cool, but you could also just go exploring in a ship in which you just buy the appropriate modules. A "vanilla" ship will still get you out there.

Hey'a HG ! Thought I'd drop you a line to update you on my progress. And again, thank you and you are AWESOME ! - Day 1 got to Ray Gateway then had an idea. Made a list of all the places you said we needed to do Road to Space Bucks and started. This had me at Elite in Exploration and into Jameson Memorial by the end of day one. - Day 2 finished all the R2SB's including engineers and did all my ranking for Empire. - Day 3 and 4 had another idea. Since the Federal rank grind takes longer I wanted a small reward for finishing. So I ran Robigo (4 jumps) until I made enough credits to buy every ship in the game. :) - Day 5-10 completed the Federal rank grind. Bought all the ships ! - Day 11 started working on the engineers using this video. Got all but 3 in the bubble. Upgraded each to level 5 as I went. I still need the Professor and the 2 with combat rank. - Had a death in the family and just came back to the game today. I got setup to do the Thargoid combat rank grind and someone told me that they had been nerfed so I'm kinda stuck on how to do it efficiently. Any ideas, please let me know. The only thing I changed was the mining. (because of the nerf) I made a list from this video for every time he said you "need to run Space Bucks." I did all that as soon as I got the ASP Explorer. For Lei Chung - Quickest way to reach the 50 markets target is to use a stripped down hauler (with a decent jump range and thruster speed), jump to a populated system, self destruct, buy sell any commodity at the respawn station, jump to a new populated system and repeat.
I got "First discovered" on a bunch of systems while doing my 5000ly run, so I flew all the way back. Silly me though, I didn't have the largest scoop available on my AspX, so it took a bit longer than it could have.
A very good comprehensive guide! My only recommendation would be to get the osmium and hatchbreaker limpet controller in Colonia area, so that it doesn't weigh down your explorer.
Hawkes feels like plugging yourself into the matrix on a main node with a data structure improvement interface. You just need to be able to handle the data feed.
Oh and here I am for the past 2 days looking for engineers guide. Nice. Thanks! Also a tip, when going into deciat with the alloy, go in solo or there's a good chance of you getting killed and looted
Escape pops are also easily acquired by going to a resource mining location and hunting down npc ships trying to strong arm other pilots for there mined resources. Small ships drop 1 to 2 occupied escape pods with larger ships having a chance to drop up to 4. It’s more organic but takes about 20 minutes longer than the reboot game option. And it’s organic
we can get scout rank in the starter area just by discovering new raw materials on landable planets if we honk all the way to the meta material planet we will have plenty of data for Farseer

For Bill turner you also need a permit for the Alioth system that you can't get from Teller Terminal, Only systems in a 15ly radius of Alioth offer the permit, and you need to gain there rep as well, as far as I understand.
Thanks for an amazing detailed vid! My only suggestion on how to get friendly with some of the factions, and also getting those 5,000ly travel distance, is to combine them. There's a black hole roughly 6kly from the bubble (can't recall the name), don't know if is the closest, but is at least something "cool" to witness. So take your ASPX or DBX, head there, probably combine a little with Road 2 riches tool, then come back, and sell some of the data to Sirius Corp, Eurybia Mafia, etc. Yeah, that trip may take you probably a week? (if you are like me to spend 1-2 hrs gaming sessions per day) plus bring and SRV and visit some planets, and in the process gather some mats, just try to enjoy the actual exploration part of the game. Great video, I personally did these in a different order because of my personal priorities. Also when able I did bounty hunting and courier missions for invites. I'm too burnt out from exploration data. Only bad thing is that a system may not have resource extraction zones, so you're forced to get exploration data.
Just fyi, Alioth Independents are no longer at Teller Terminal, so you have to Alcor or somewhere that it's owned by Alioth independents to get the Alioth system permit(Bill Turner)

Than you so much CMDR !! ;-) But just to say : Seems that MAIA is often out of stock for "meta alloy" needed to unlock Felicity ! Some FC are pretendingly selling them according to Inara, but some are not updated and acces is denied to most of them. So I had to found it on a guardian base. Maybe it can help some newcomers ! Let's say Engineer A can roll a module to G3 maximum. Will I be able to top off that upgrade on the same module to G5 at Engineer B provided that he/she offers the G5? And thank you so much for your tutorials!

Gotta say, Petra Almonova's 'point defence launchers' sound pretty cool. She and Etienne Dorn are the last engineers I have left to unlock (I might skip Bris Decker, but I got Hicks and Brandon on a FC trip, this one time).
I just got Dorn unlocked, but forgot about Almonova's progenitor cells. And now there's Zacariah Nemo to unlock as well, with 'Xihe Biomorphic Companions.'
Ah, I momentarily forgot (gruelling return from Colonia, but I my cartography data impressed the Party of Yoru) that you had done Nemo, and he wasn't a new engineer. I went with overcharged frag cannons for my Asp, with incendiary effect, so I can rain down fiery vengeance...
Instead of hari-kari after doing the Neutron highway to unlock Palin, I came back with a bunch of discovery data. It was enough to get Friendly status with the Mafia to unlock Liz Ryder.
Another easy way to get rare goods for engineer unlocks is to go to East India Company (google for "elite east india company"). They'll supply rare goods in exchange for common ones, usually in a convenient location near the engineer.
For Marco Quint. I am maxed out friendly with Sirius. He is still greyed out. What is the engineer mission? I have permit to Sirius system. I don’t get what mission I’m looking for?? I turned in my exploration data over 9 million worth but was at separate times. That took a long time to do that.
So I have to farm the 3 mats type which takes a many hours, after getting each engineering leveled to 5. Pin and move on. I bet you run out of mats quick lol.
Question if you see this to answer. But after following method 2 for raw materials, I was nearing a planet c5a and maintenance was coming in 5 mins. I landed logged off. After coming back all crystalline clusters are gone. Did they just nerf this on horizon?
Can you land a large ship at every engineer location? Just switched from Xbox to pc and have 2 billion in assets and I’m going right back to my exploraconda but just haven’t messed with engineers in a year

You can still do that! Engineers just allow you to make better ones, they're technically unnecessary. It just adds some incentive to the grind

I'm not sure if this got updated in a patch, but I had to upgrade Elvira to level 4 to get info on Marco Qwent, Zackaria Nemo and Mel Brandon.
Actually, engineering for Grade 5 FSD Interdictors does exist, but right now is only available at Mel Brandon ^^

Hawkes feels like plugging yourself into the matrix on a main node with a data structure improvement interface. You just need to be able to handle the data feed.

Learned that the hard way
Escape pops are also easily acquired by going to a resource mining location and hunting down npc ships trying to strong arm other pilots for there mined resources. Small ships drop 1 to 2 occupied escape pods with larger ships having a chance to drop up to 4. It’s more organic but takes about 20 minutes longer than the reboot game option. And it’s organic

For Bill turner you also need a permit for the Alioth system that you can't get from Teller Terminal, Only systems in a 15ly radius of Alioth offer the permit, and you need to gain there rep as well, as far as I understand.
Thanks for an amazing detailed vid! My only suggestion on how to get friendly with some of the factions, and also getting those 5,000ly travel distance, is to combine them. There's a black hole roughly 6kly from the bubble (can't recall the name), don't know if is the closest, but is at least something "cool" to witness. So take your ASPX or DBX, head there, probably combine a little with Road 2 riches tool, then come back, and sell some of the data to Sirius Corp, Eurybia Mafia, etc. Yeah, that trip may take you probably a week? (if you are like me to spend 1-2 hrs gaming sessions per day) plus bring and SRV and visit some planets, and in the process gather some mats, just try to enjoy the actual exploration part of the game. Great video, I personally did these in a different order because of my personal priorities. Also when able I did bounty hunting and courier missions for invites. I'm too burnt out from exploration data. Only bad thing is that a system may not have resource extraction zones, so you're forced to get exploration data.
Just fyi, Alioth Independents are no longer at Teller Terminal, so you have to Alcor or somewhere that it's owned by Alioth independents to get the Alioth system permit(Bill Turner)

Some FC are pretendingly selling them according to Inara, but some are not updated and acces is denied to most of them. So I had to found it on a guardian base. Maybe it can help some newcomers ! Fly safe CMDR's ;-)
Same. Look on Inara for FC's showing a high inventory. They are easily spotted because they are selling them for 1.9million+

The Sirius system is still in lockdown bcs of the story plot... I am at this stage as well and all you can do is wait for the lockdown to come to an end... I know its annoying but well...

Gotta say, Petra Almonova's 'point defence launchers' sound pretty cool. She and Etienne Dorn are the last engineers I have left to unlock (I might skip Bris Decker, but I got Hicks and Brandon on a FC trip, this one time).
I just got Dorn unlocked, but forgot about Almonova's progenitor cells.
And now there's Zacariah Nemo to unlock as well, with 'Xihe Biomorphic Companions.'
Ah, I momentarily forgot (gruelling return from Colonia, but I my cartography data impressed the Party of Yoru) that you had done Nemo, and he wasn't a new engineer. I went with overcharged frag cannons for my Asp, with incendiary effect, so I can rain down fiery vengeance...

Instead of hari-kari after doing the Neutron highway to unlock Palin, I came back with a bunch of discovery data. It was enough to get Friendly status with the Mafia to unlock Liz Ryder.
Just a note, the mission wouldn't pop for me at Davy Dock, FD had me fly to Polyakov Station to get it to pop.
Another easy way to get rare goods for engineer unlocks is to go to East India Company (google for "elite east india company"). They'll supply rare goods in exchange for common ones, usually in a convenient location near the engineer.
Thargoid sensor fragments keep falling into the ground when I try to retrieve them... :(

For Marco Quint. I am maxed out friendly with Sirius. He is still greyed out. What is the engineer mission? I have permit to Sirius system. I don’t get what mission I’m looking for?? I turned in my exploration data over 9 million worth but was at separate times. That took a long time to do that.

So I have to farm the 3 mats type which takes a many hours, after getting each engineering leveled to 5. Pin and move on. I bet you run out of mats quick lol.
Question if you see this to answer. But after following method 2 for raw materials, I was nearing a planet c5a and maintenance was coming in 5 mins. I landed logged off. After coming back all crystalline clusters are gone. Did they just nerf this on horizon?
