I don't know whats going on with the High grade emissions but you now get like 150-200 grade 4-5 materials per. But now it doesn't work to re-log. However you generally only need 1-2 of them anyway so who cares. I think you need to revisit doing these methods again. because the Jameson crash site maxed out my inventory in 3 re-logs. Also with SCO Frame Shift drives you can get to the crashed anaconda super fast. They have also added a boat load of Crates at the crashed Anaconda site. The crash sites still allow re-log re-fresh

Fellow Odyssey players it is September 2022 and this guide is still amazing and it works gloriously. I just grinded out all these mats using his methods. I just wanted to give a PSA for the Raw Mats. In the Odyssey client you will no longer see Biological Markers. Instead what you do is activate your surface scanner on the planet, once it is scanned and you are close enough you will find a filter in the middle of the surface scanner screen. Press Q or E (by default) and you will filter through different options on the heat map. Cycle through until you find Crystalline markers, they will pop up as bright blue, land in any blue area and get close to the ground. Once you are close to the ground you will see tiny spikes jutting from the surface, find a patch and land near them. Once you are in your SRV those spikes are actually huge and you will find the resources that Hawkes has depicted. Alternatively, you could launch the game in the Horizon's client and it should look identical to what you see Hawke's do. Lastly, when I first "discovered" the raw materials it tells me I have a max capacity of 100 instead of 150. Exiting to main menu and relogging corrected this for me. But don't be like me and leave the planet with only 100 (max capacity toast and everything) to log in later and realize you have to go back and get the other third. 07 Commanders!

Oh man, I thought I'd wasted all that journey (and all that time exploring the system before landing..) - thanks!!!
Also, a better trick is to just use the coordinates from the SRV at each site in the video. This way you get the specific high volume zone.
Edit: Nevermind! These don't work anymore. However TheRealSuzuki6 gave some new coords:
Polonium : HIP 36601 C1A , Sight doesn't really matter its almost everywhere on the planet as long as you land at a Crystalline shard sight ( use detailed surface scanner then filter for Crystaline shards)
Ruthenium : HIP 36601 C1D , -24.6, 105.35 in between the mountains its a bit hard to see so fly low when arriving !
      Tellurium : HIP 36601 C3B , 67.00, 131.75
      Technitium : HIP 36601 C5A , 3.746, 78.68

    Hello Commanders,
Read this if you have issues or if you are going to do this for the first time ever!!!!!!!!!!
If you play on Odyssey there is a few things different then in this video due to the planettary textures being adjusted.I recently did this run for the first time in Odyssey but have done it many times before in Horizons a long time ago and I noticed the changes.
First of all the RAW material planets that Hawkes shows are still good but the sights/signals just will not show up on NAV panel anymore. If you want to farm materials you can now fly to any point on the planet and be lucky to find a spot with shards but this can take a very long time so I will put some coordinates down below with spots where you can fill up at 1 spot in less then 20 Minutes ( even for Selenium)
    Technitium : HIP 36601 C5A , 3.746, 78.68
    Yttrium : Outotz LS-K D8-3 B5A , -1.9216, -145.7013
    Antimony : Outotz LS-K D8-3 B5C , -62.4905, 80.2426
    Selenium : HR 3230 3 A A, 45.66, -30.49 ( you can fill up at 1 sight here)
Also the first time you ever get RAW materials your inventory is capped at 100 for some reason... To fix this just collect each material and when it says inventory full go to the main menu and then go back in game and now your inventory will have space for 150 instead of 100. Do this for every RAW material you collect
Also if you don't wanna fly all the way out to the Crystalline shards for Raw materials there is Discord servers and Reddit pages that offer free fleet carrier rides there and back!
Also for Encoded Data blowing up your ship will not respawn you at the last station you were docked anymore , it will spawn you on the most nearby Fleet carrier or station to where you do so don't blow yourself up. You gonna have to actually fly back to a station with trader now unfortantly. I recommend System: Diaguadri , station: Ray Gateway its really close.
Also last tip ,If you can't find 'Military Supercapacitors" then go to a High Grade Emissions site wich has not much time left on it ( 12 mins or less) for some reason I find them way more often here. Yes you will only have a few minutes to farm them once you get there but it is for sure a lot better then trading for them and looking for sites with a lot of time left !
I hope this helps if you have any questions just ask me down below !

Okay, I just have to say that I'm still fairly new to ED. I just got my first anaconda and outfitted it with (what I could find) the best stuff before engineering. Being newer, engineering has been something I've dreaded simply because of the grind (I'm taking a break from BDO so... you know... I really don't feel like grinding much of anything) after some research and discouraging information in terms of effort, I came across this video. This is, by far, THE single best guide I've found in the last 5 - 7 years of gaming, for any game that I've played. Seriously, it's not too long, everything is linked in the description and the way you've laid it all out is so simple I feel like I can get a couple of things done here-and-there and come back to this when I need to. Hawkes, you really did an incredible job with this. So thank you for making ED a little easier on us noobs :). Great video, 10/10.

  • @beepboopmachines
    @beepboopmachines 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

This is one of my favourite go-to videos in ED! Thank you for your hard work. Still works in 2021, however it is humanly impossible to go from 0-150 of Raw Materiral gathering in 15 minutes. I believe FDev decided that there can't be too much grind and slightly nerfed it. You can see that even that the shot down mats even look different in your vdeo than in the current version of ED. Your look like fancy alien pinecones while the ones we get now are boring little gray sticks.
    A bit of math:
15 minutes is equal to 900 seconds. We need to collect 50 shards from the needles (each one gives us 3). That gives us 18 seconds per mat collection. This includes: finding the crystalline cluster, aligning to the correct angle so we shoot at the hitbox (even with the turret deployed it takes a bit of driving and cornering), shooting the mat down, waiting for it to fall (5-30 seconds, avg. 12sec), finally collecting it. Not to mention that 5-10% of the materials get stuck in the needles and some of the hitboxes are only possible to shoot only when jumping.
I have tried different methods and I'm not the worst SRV driver out there but was never able to get anything done faster than 29 minutes. I assumed that the best approach would be to shoot a bunch of the shards down and then scoop them up all in one go but thanks to FDev they disappear after a short while. So yeah...

Awesome Guide! Thanks for all the work. I found Bio Site 1 on HIP 36601 C 5 A for Technetium to be great (a good replacement for site 10). Note that the other stars you're aiming for are a ways from where you pop into the system, so, if you need a 20 min break save it for the supercruise. The route out there may be a bit wonky depending on where you leave from. There's some restricted space between it and the bubble.... and as others have said, if you're new like me and can't drive the SRV around from turret mode well, then expect it to take 5x the time it takes CMDR Hawke. Finally, I lucked out and had mats to both repair my SRV and synthesize ammo. I would highly suggest making sure you have a bit on hand before running out when you're out there.

    Mechanical Scrap
    Salvaged Alloys
    Chemical Processors
    Heat Dispersion Plate
    Shield Emitters

When using the SRV at Jameson Memorial you can scan the data from the turret's seat, that way you don't have to drive around to aim at the different Comms Controls (it's set to 'U' key at my game). Conversely when shooting the raw material boxes you can just lock target (it's set to 'T' key at my game) while driving and the turret will auto aim at them if it has the angle for it.

Well I've been going at it for a little while now and using EDDB to find the places. After farming materials in one area I realized they weren't the right ones, then I realized EDDB wasn't up to date on that system, so now I know to double check with the system I'm farming in since it seems to change. I've also learned to use the filter for signal sources and that helped find the high grade emissions a lot. Still no idea what all I'll need this stuff for with engineering, but I figure if I go into it with a full inventory of stuff it should be a lot easier. The main issue isn't even collectings mats, but the sheer amount you need for the last tier upgrades. I don't care enough to know who is designing this shit, but it's like they don't want people to play their game. I stopped playing many times for very long periods of time because of their decisions (and the game being quite shallow). The first iteration of engineers was so bad it made me quit playing until they changed it.
One thing they could do to "fix" it is to remove RNG completely from engineers while keeping the costs as is. But the whole thing needs a rework and some serious balancing.

Pharmaceutical isolators and Military Supercapacitors are both notoriously hard to find so you will need to trade other grade 5 materials to get them maxed out. 1 per 6 traded = 16 per 100 g5 materials farmed. You will need to cross-trade 1200ish g5's just to max both. After that, you will need to farm all the other grade 5's to max that you used up to cross-trade. How the F**** is this even considered good gameplay.

I just had a ton of fun defending Wakata station last night and thought "hey, maybe I'll build a better AX ship and fight some interceptors!" Then I remembered the BS grind to get materials and decided to play something else. Good luck defending the bubble, I'm out... again.

Awesome guide, CMDR, and the backing music is kickin'. For Technetium, I would recommend going to Bio Signal Site #1, not #10 - Site 1 is well illuminated, crystal spawns are close together and most importantly, the terran is very flat and a joy to navigate (no cliffs, hills, ledges, etc. to get stuck on).

For Technetium I'd rather advise using site 6 instead of 10. It's also full of Technetium, but it's a flat area, not a valley. At site 10 I ran out of Crystalline in the flat area less than halfway my inventory space and was supposed to farm from the side of the valley, which is an easy area to get into a stuck position and have to relog in normal ED to get recovered to Orbit, which is 100k Ls away from C 5 A.

Dude.... Thank you. This is amazing for someone coming back 4 years later because engineering overwhelmed them when released. It was such a $@#$ show back then. I mean seriously... I BETA tested the hell out of horizons and FD ignored all of our concerns and released it as is. Soured the experience. Coming back I've made a years worth of credits (2016 ED with all smuggling & mission stacking exploits included) in 1 week because of your vids. Now I'm jumping 50 ly and my combat ships are casually cruising beyond boost speeds. I totally forgot what an addictive game this is. Thanks for being the guy that cuts all this convoluted crap into tiny pieces for the lesser minded pew pew pew folks

Farming materials wound't be so bad for me if it weren't for the fact that trading materials is a disgrace, I mean when you trade G5 for other G5 the trader takes a 86% commission lmao. You give 100 you get 14... It's ridiculous, what are they, loan sharks? lol

Dude, you rock! Thank you for this vid! After not playing this game for years and years, I am about to start engineering and I hated farming mats way back when.
I'm stuck playing on PS4 right now, so the HGE respawn trick doesn't work. I've had to hunt over several systems, so it increases farm-time dramatically.
    o7, Commander. Thanks again!

Also, make sure this is the first place where you go to farm Raw materials as each site has tones of the other rank 2 and 3 materials as well. Specially, do this before trading down raw materials.

I might repeat someone comments again but for 11:26 technetium Biological signal no 6 is pretty flat spot to land and farm, and thank you for the guides Hawkes!
    Edit update for Selenium:
since i use Bhritzameno as my center point i found another planet with 5% Selenium, tried to give it a shot. this Geological sites i mention below is a flat and a lil hilly sites and landable by huge ships :
    Geo site 7 - 10 -16 -14 // total collected 93 Selenium |
// is a go but 14 doest give much while the other sites is either gonna frustate your self to go into or a nice challenge for mountain goat people(smallships only), from those 4 spots run i manage to collect 93 Selenium and give it a bail now since i have been farming for half day and need to get this nasty core dynamic composite.
I hope this help someone and good luck for the drop, again thanks Hawk for the guides is really help for my 1st actual mats grind adventure!!
