The scene with Angel and Judy at the end always makes me tear up.

Well, they needed a bigger set and wow, they really got one with this. That's why they blew up the old one. They didn't want any chance of ever using it again. The exteriors are the Los Altos Apartments building on Wilshire Blvd. which was also used in the "Dr Pieces" episode.

    Great reaction.
J.P. Manoux played the bellhop and he's had quite the career but he's not who you thought he might be. IMDB him indeed. Interestingly the hotel manager was played by John Kapelos who was on the main cast of another classic show about a vampire detective who drove a Cadillac convertible around while solving crimes in a big city called Forever Knight. No, Angel wasn't the first. Check it out sometime.

Forever Knight was indeed a pretty fun show. Another show with a vampire main character that I liked is Blood Ties, based on a series of books by Tanya Huff, also set in Toronto, though I liked the books better.

Are You Now or Have You Ever Been many fans rate as one of the best episodes of the series. It's is very similar in tone to the BTVS episode I Only Have Eyes For You. I think it is definitely one of the top ten episodes in the whole Buffyverse. A superb plot, this could have been a whole movie on its own. Judy's story is heart breaking, superb from Tim Minear who was involved in many of the best Angel episodes, he also wrote for the X-Files as well. We see of course the group now move into the hotel, which becomes a great base for operations. 'We're Moving In'.

LOL "Are we in the past?!?" - there were some clues you didn't pick up on. In the initial conversation it was implied the hotel was not in use, then as we zoomed in on the hotel the colors were a little more washed out, and the cars driving by were all like classic cars. 😉 The look on your face when you said that was perfect! 😊

While there is racism in Britain (and probably everywhere else in the world) it is not quite the same as it was in the US. In much of Britain there are more South Asians/Indian sub-continentals, then African descended people, so racism is directed mainly at them instead.

Favorite AtS episode and third favorite episode overall (include the canon comics and the audio which are on my list, as well).
This is a rare moment in pop culture where the B story is just as interesting as the A story, at least to me.
