This movie has a real life tragedy. They were using the same guns interchangeably between blanks and live rounds. But this one time, the armorer failed to clear a barrel of a stuck bullet in Michael Massey’s, Fun Boy, gun and accidentally and fatally shot Brandon Lee. Massey was cleared of any wrong doing, but because of the PTSD he got from that, he never watched this film up till his own death.

hollywood never learns from this mistake, there's a pretty long history of actors checking out this way. recently you had the alec baldwin RUST case, there's the Brandon Lee case, there was that actor in the 80's that blew his own brains out with a blank because he was bored on set, etc.
even lesser accidents due to the same issues are common. for example, Schwarzenegger almost broke all his fingers on one hand while filming Terminator 2. they had 3 prop sawn off lever action shotguns for the film, one rubber replica with a standard lever, one real one for firing blanks with a standard lever, and one real one with an enlarged lever loop for doing that neat spin cocking trick. at some point Arnold needed the enlarged loop gun for a spin cocking shot and either picked up or was handed the regular loop gun instead. when he went to spin cock the gun, he wrenched all his fingers with the lever and is lucky he didn't break any. this could have just as easily been another case of handing a live gun to an actor if they were filming a different shot that day, and could have ended much worse than a sore hand.
unfortunately, it's going to keep happening, because armorers make mistakes, actors are gun stupid, and the industry still thinks that this is an acceptable risk in the name of the guns in their movie having realistic action and recoil, which is crazy to me because an actuating replica gun can't be less cost efficient than a real gun and you pay actors to ACT, so have them act it out.

    • @gourdguru
      @gourdguru 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

i've seen the trailer, and there's more wrong than just that, it seems like it misses the entire point in almost every way.
putting aside the point you made, other issues are:
      - it seems they're spending the first act actually showing us eric and shelly's relationship rather than flashbacks, and seems this part is structured in a specific style that drives me up the wall because it takes forever to get where it's going and doesn't do anything meaningful once it gets there.
      - they've decided to alter their deaths making them less traumatic, robbing the entire weight of shelly's suffering from the plot. simultaneously, they seem to be trying to go into detail about the motive for the attack in a way that once again robs the plot. in the original, it's mentioned in passing that eric and shelly were eviction holdouts, and that they were attacked to clear them out, but that's clearly just an excuse. the devil's night crew are about random acts of violence and destruction, setting fires for fun, and would have done it anyway. it isn't just that eric and shelly's deaths are unjust, but unnecessary, pointless and sadistic with massive ripple effects(sarah losing her support structure and being on the crime ridden streets with a junkie whore mother who hangs out with the devil's night crew, is likely going to struggle, and her potential futures consist of being a junkie whore like her mother if she can make it to adulthood without being r@ped or murdered first, all because of this senseless attack that had nothing to do with her). the new film trailer makes it seem much more "Strictly business".
      - aesthetic. the original eric draven was a frontman for a 90's goth band, and his style was befitting his backround. few or no tattoos, skintight leather and mesh and electrical tape, etc. His makeup had symbolism, the original comic creator wrote the comic as a coping mechanism for depression after a loved one was killed by a drunk driver on their way to pick him up. he saw it as his fault because of this and he decided to find and kill the person responsible but discovered they had already died in ANOTHER drunk driving incident. so he wrote the revenge story of the crow to work through his grief/trauma. Eric's use of the Tragedy mask, the twin sister to the Comedy mask, as inspiration is symbolic of this fourney to overcoming tragedy/trauma which both the creator and the protagonist are on. by comparison, the trailer for the remake shows Eric covered in unrelated tattoos to a degree we usually see in hollywood as visual shorthand for skinheads, with a pisspoor poke and stick tattoo over his eye and a red pentagram on his temple. his makeup is just generic black metal corpse paint. the original eric was just a rock frontman with a spooky aesthetic, this new eric seems like a satanic soundcloud rapper(seriously, why the pentagram? it's like they said "Hey since we're making a story about a dark hero resurrected by magic, let's scrape the bottom of the trope barrel and draw the star of satan right on his face! who cares if it's unrelated and irrelevant and adds nothing to the overall package? it's subtle and edgy, right? right??").
he looks like Lil' Peep got busy with the Jared Leto Joker.
      - music. now we get an explanation for the aesthetic. for some reason we threw out the cure's burn and decided to go with a new track. this makes sense and i'm not complaining. what i AM complaining about is the choice of new track. it seemed odd that we would update so much in and around the film and then after flushing a rock icon from 40 years ago, we decided to make the groundbreaking choice to use...a bland new song by a rock icon from 40 years ago. a rock icon who has basically sanitized his sound and would have worked 25 years ago but lately sounds too polished and formulaic and seems only capable of dropping sappy ballad rock. Ozzy Osbourne, seriously? then i looked into it and found out it was a collaboration between ozzy, POST MALONE, and TRAVIS SCOTT. so Eric looks like a shitty soundcloud rapper because he probly is one, since the theme song is literally two shitty soundcloud rappers riding a senile rock icon's coat-tails to borrow clout. and if this is the case, again, WHY? i get that goth is dead and i'm one of the last surviving OG spooky kids, complete with clove cigarettes and absinthe, and i've come to terms with that, but this isn't just kicking the goth scene to the curb as past tense, it's jumping an entire genre barrier.
we could have stayed in the goth scene or in the larger rock genre in general and found plenty of good tracks for this film.
but instead, someone at the studio was like "No. we'll spend stoopid money for a fresh recorded collaboration between judas' priest's Rob Halford, and Whiz Khalifa. we can tell it's what everyone wants because absolutely no one asked for it."
there's more, but i'm tired. everything about the trailer feels like the creators are checking boxes on a clipboard to make sure they hit all the marketable bullet points, but completely missed the point of everything the first movie was doing. where the original had deep story and symbolism, this one seems to have vapid and shallow "edge". where the other had not a subtle style, but a natural style with substance, this feels like being beat over the head with the _trappings_ of style and being told it's substance.
there have been 4 Crow sequels and a tv series, and all of them are garbage fires. they need to just stop. The Crow is a perfect film, leave it alone. Just cause a movie isn't the Godfather or Casablanca the industry thinks they can just rehash everything for a buck, but you don't see them remaking "Gone with the Wind". they draw an imaginary line between "Low film" and "High film", the former being schlock they can abuse for profit, the latter being a sacred cow that actually is given proper respect. superman, batman, ghostbusters, star wars, the crow, etc., are all "low film" to them and thus open season.

“…two shitty Soundcloud rappers riding a senile rock icon’s coat-tails to borrow clout…”
I don’t like anything about the direction they took with the new movie, but this is a kind of ridiculous statement. While I’m not a huge Post Malone fan, he’d already had several number one singles and Grammy nominated albums whenTake What You Want was released. Travis Scott had already racked up at least one number one album, and his song, Sicko Mode, was a big hit.
Take What You Want was a collaboration between three big names, one of them with his career high points way in the rear view. It’s a crazy take to say the two who were current big names were riding the other guy’s coattails. I personally like Ozzy way better than Post Malone or Travis Scott, but neither one of them needed Ozzy for clout.

@@6li8storm40 fair point, but perhaps clout wasn't exactly the term i was looking for. more like "Cross-pollenation".
what i'm kind of trying to get at is, malone and scott have a major presence but they've come from a general wave in their overall genre that hasn't had good potential for crosspollenation, IE gaining major ground outside of genre. from my experience, Rap and hiphop fans know them and have heard their music, but if that isn't your main genre of interest, you probly know of them, but not their music.
a metalhead for example, may not care about hiphop, but still knows tupac/llcool j/rundmc/pharrell/50 cent/etc when he hears them, probly knows at least half the lyrics to their most famous songs, digs the beat, can sing along, and probly won't just change the radio station looking for something better and just groove with it.
by comparison, most of the people i know who aren't into the hiphop scene know who malone and scott are, but haven't heard either of them or have heard their style and don't care, and their general perception of malone is as that unimpressive dumbass with the bad tattoowork that everyone seems to think is a big deal, and scott as the rapper who's name seems to come up in irrelevant media drama as often as it comes up on the grammy charts. not exactly a fertile ground to sow the seeds for a new side of your fanbase.
attaching to an out of genre titan like ozzy is probly the most effective thing they've done to try and jump that line, since even if someone in that genre doesn't know/like/care about Malone or Scott, or even harbors undue resentment/aversion, will still swallow their pride and see what new sad attempt ozzy put out.
and that's ultimately the issue. this has been done before, but the bands in question have done so in ways that generated more interest and had more impact, striking while the iron is hot. eminem and elton john or run dmc and aerosmith as examples were hyped up before hand something fierce, made a central draw for the award shows they were made the central act for(and let's be honest, award shows suck and the musical break is usually the high point). the "vibe" was on their side, and no one involved had started to flag yet. elton was still on point, aerosmith were in the height of their fame and tyler hadn't started to show his age in his vocals yet.
here though, Ozzy hasn't really been relevant for ages, his last good album/single release that got decent attention was, what, Down to Earth back in 2001? and even his own fans have sort of tuned out due to his change in style, and at concerts, no one cares if he plays stuff from his 2010 album, but they'll riot if he doesn't play his 80's lineup. not exactly the best person to attach to for the purposes. since ozzy isn't really relevant anymore, it's not like you're gonna be sharing a grammy stage with him with the hype surrounding that, like run dmc and aerosmith had, and unlike elton john and aerosmith that at the time "ARE" the big bad, Ozzy "WAS" the big bad, a long time ago.
since you don't have THAT buzz, what's the next best option? movie theme.
Seal's "Kiss from a rose" got mad mileage off of being tied to batman, and arguably the original crow movie extended the cure's presence, since by 94 they were already sort of dated and falling behind the more second wave goth scene, but Burn was fantastic and being tied to the crow got it mileage even outside the goth scene. but note that they didn't go out of their way in either case to lay that on thick IN the film. marketing AROUND the film, sure. but brandon lee wasn't styled to look like robert smith or peter murphy for his role.
that's sort of the big issue here. the crow was heavily feuled by the goth vibe and sadly the goth scene is either dead or on life support, at least in the US. i know, i'm one of the last OG spooky kids, i live in a major city, and we have Goth "Nights" where a nightclub embraces the genre and the vibe for an evening. but a solid goth club, not anymore. it's more of a kitch retro theme, like tiki parties, to be dabbled in as a change of pace. without the scene, "the crow" needs a blood transfusion, an injection of a more relevant but still thematically similar genre. malone and scott provide the relevance but provide nothing in way of theme/vibe. that's what ozzy WOULD bring to the table all on his own...25 years ago.
but now, he's just a hollow signal, and they seem to be trying to update the vibe of the film to align with malone/scott's genre more so Ozzy doesn't have to do the heavy lifting.
the whole thing reeks of bad marketing. washed up icons, new musicians from completely disconnected genres, hollow signaling to the fans of both the film and the music scene, nonexistent media presence surrounding the new track, and attaching it to a remake of an iconic cult film and bending the film to meet your need rather than bending to meet the film's needs. it was poorly thought out and feels like checking boxes on a clipboard, and had they given half a shit, they could have dodged half of this by just choosing a different artist. for example, Marilyn Manson and NIN are both just as iconic at this point, still more relevant than ozzy, and still maintain their old school sound. had they partnered with either of them, and could have done proper marketing around the song instead of JUST pinning it to the film and hoping for the best, they likely would have gotten the same desired ends without having to fuck with the film's stylistic choices in any way.
instead, it feels like we've altered the story to fit the musicians, making Eric Draven the stereotype not just visually but in story, which feels like the priority was the music tie in, not the film.
delinquent with a prison/institutionalized past, covered in bad tattoos including the Post malone/lil peep style bad poke and stick job over the eyebrow, weird junky love story subplot, etc.
this feels like a square white PR guy trying to ape the trappings of the genre and hoping no one notices it's only skin deep, or like a marketing guy thought they needed to expand their appeal with a vapid and hollow attempt at making the crow more "Urban".
it gives "What are the hip kids into these days? i got it! air pumps in the sneakers! that's what's 'jiggy' these days, yo."
like an empty attempt to relate to an audience you have no connection or interest in, just to profit off their trend interests. this is bad enough, but then hijacking a completely different established vibe/trend to do so just makes it worse.
i don't know. like i said, "clout" may be the wrong word for what i'm getting at, but whatever you want to call it, it's an issue.

@@gourdguru I’m following you. The song in question predates the movie by several years, but I get what you mean about how it fits in. It’s like they tried to update the aesthetic, including the music, for “modern audiences” (am I the only one who’s learned to hate that phrase?), but didn’t actually figure out what aesthetic they were looking for.
The goth scene is in life support. (One of my kids is goth, and you’re right that there’s not a lot of scope in the culture for that, anymore.)
I’m an OG 80s metal head. I couldn’t even tell you songs from most of the older rappers you mentioned. I’m only familiar with Post Malone and Travis Scott because of my kids.

Hi! I love Sting, I love Brandon Lee, and I love the 1994 The Crow 🙌 I watched your reaction video from beginning to end, cried the whole way through, and I must say how impressive it is that you edited this down from feature length to just 38 minutes - cos there's so many great moments throughout. As you've learned by now, Brandon Lee was tragically k1l.led on set and Eliza was his real life bride to be. It makes watching the scenes more poignant. I hope wherever Brandon is, he knows how loved he is, and how we're all still talking about what a great actor he was 🥲💙
The new movie was defined as a "remake," then a "reboot," then a "re-imagining," but we come to learn that the 2024 Eric and Shelly are entirely different people, different characters who are the same in name only 😕 (Even though it was deceptively presented to us as related to the 1994 The Crow 😕)
A lot of people still don't realise there was a 1998/9 TV series called "The Crow: Stairway To Heaven," starring Mark Dacascos as Eric Draven. It was only 1 season and without giving specific details, it ended on a big cliffhanger so we never knew what happened... The certificate was lowered to age 15 for TV so a lot got watered down, but I believe they tried their best to nod to the 1994, and it still retained it's "heart" while also having fun with new concepts in The Crow realm. (Sorry this was long - I had a lot to comment, ha 😊✌️)

Eric wouldn't have been in Heaven while he was dead. That's the issue. His soul was so broken by the tragedy that killed them both, that he couldn't rest. He was in purgatory, waiting. And when his soul wouldn't calm down, they sent him back to fix whatever broke him.
And people forget that the Crow bringing someone back isn't necessarily about revenge. In this case, it is...but it's about bringing a soul back that can't rest. That could be revenge, or it could be just making sure to take care of the people you love so they can move on without you, properly.
Actually, in this case, it's both. That's why Eric doesn't immediately go back when they kidnap Sara. Sara is that important to him and Shelly, and he needed to make sure she was ok. So we get the ending scene with Top Dollar.

you can tell during the scene where he gets in the shootout over Skank. half the footage in that fight scene was shot after the accident, and as a result there are a LOT of moments when Eric Draven is completely in shadow to hide that it's a body double.
sadly, not the first time for the Lee family. yet another of the creepy similarities surrounding Bruce and Brandon's deaths.
The studio had to reshoot and recut "Game of Death" after Bruce Lee died, using body doubles wearing big sunglasses, stunt doubles with cardboard cutouts of Bruce's face, etc.
half the movie had to be done like this. thankfully, the crow was further along when brandon's accident happened, and we've come a long way since the 70's, so the finished product wasn't as much of a shitshow as Game of Death was.

Sadly the new movie sucks. And it's a total flop in the box office and the way they did the characters, they're just drug addicts that are not relatable at all. There's still some good action but not really worth writing home about

Also, for the fight at the church at the end, the Skull Cowboy takes his invincibility at the end cuz he broke the rules. Eric was supposed to avenge his and Shelly's deaths, no side quests were allowed... Eric going to the church to save Shelly was a side quest.
I'm sorry to tell you, the remake is awful and they do use Eric and Shelly in the awful new movie.

I love your reactions here bro. The Crow is a great movie and I rented it on VHS when it was released in 1994, yeah I’m old 🤣. Sadly, the scene where the villain shoots Draven at the end is where Brandon Lee who plays Eric Draven died. There was a dummy round in the gun but someone on set had fired a real bullet and part of it wedged in the barrel. The shot killed Brandon and that made this movie even bigger somehow.
Being a big pro wrestling fan too, I knew Scott Hall suggested Sting to change up his character to be like The Crow. So, this movie was an inspiration for pro wrestling too. Sting aka Steve Borden with darker hair grown out and without makeup heavily resembled Brandon Lee anyway. It was a great homage and fit.

My advice toy you is, just stick to this one, and, avoid the remake! This movie is PERFECT, the remake is a big, steaming pile of sh*t.

There has actually been 3 OTHER movies than the original and remake. Eric Draven in NOT the only one, the 'legend' of the Crow bringing back others is supposed to go back to the American Indians (based on loosely). The movies are based off a comic book series and, by my count, have been AT LEAST 25 of them.

Not to be that person, but sorry...not sorry; I could bore you to death with history and culture, but at the end the week...ok, day, you'd wander off into traffic, so I'll spare you the lack of brevity and say that "goth" , as you so eloquently proclaimed, existed well before 1994.

Absolutely no one wants the new movie. Fans are nah this was Brandon's legacy its almost like messing with a war grave. The new modern audiance they are desperate for doesn't care.
By the way the comic was horrific, they killed the girl before the abuse.

I knew Brandon from childhood..and was on set when he died. Eliza wasn't his fiancee, she was a stalker and a grifter who latched onto him because she saw the chance for the limelight..Brandon confided in me that he didn't love her and he would go to great lengths to try and get rid of her...she kept telling everyone she was going to marry him...she told a big enough lie, and everyone believed her...including his family. that's how her name appeared in the dedication at the end...Rest in Peace, Brandon. --Love, Major.
