I'm the guy who had Shellder for his profile picture and kept nagging Scott about making this video. I know I'm late, went off TH-cam for a while and changed accounts, but I'm super excited to finally see this :D It almost feels surreal after like 2 or 3 years of waiting. As much as I love Shellder, I know it's gonna be bad for a solo challenge. Let's see how bad it really is!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon of course you live up to expectations! I know you get to hear this from a lot of people at this point, maybe it's losing a bit of its meaning, but you really are just that good at what you do. I've been watching your content for a couple of years now, and aside from Jrose once in a while, you're the only Poketuber I watch at all. When you're done with your gen1 tierlist by the end of 2025, guess what... how about Shellder in Crystal or Emerald version? xD
Honest feedback, because I have given them to some in the videos in the past when you asked for it, THESE ARE THE TYPES OF VIDEOS I LOVE!!! It is extremely well polished and you are telling a story. It’s not a discussion or a live stream. These types of videos are the reason I subscribed to you in the past. You are one of the top 2 Pokemon players I watch (I honestly can’t choose my favorite, just know you are top 2).
Venomoth Fact #28: In ancient times, Venomoth's powders, spores and ground up shed scales were used as a popular spice for food and as a hallucinogenic.
About the exp growth rates: Iirc, the top x pokémon (fully evolved) by BST (gen 1) are the ones stuck with the slow growth rate, which is why so many pokémon you'd think of as mediocre have that. Aside from eeveelutions, starters and weirdly Kabutops, all pokémon with like, 430 BST or higher have the slow growth rate, which includes stuff like Rhydon, most stone evos, Aerodactyl and stuff you'd think is horrible to use since they're bad pokémon saddled with terrible movesets in gen 1. Scyther having 10 less BST is probably why Pinsir has that abysmal growth rate while Scyther has medium fast. After that, I think all bets are off on which have medium slow and which have medium fast exp rates, since fast was obviously "those 3 pink blobs families, nah not Lickitung or Ditto."
I noticed an error in the video. When you showed Venomoth's typing during the Koga fight in the first playthrough you showed it as a mono grass type. It's actually a grass electric type, just wanted to correct the information so the TH-cam algorithm would know, that fella is really good at reading comments
Hey, Scott. I have a suggestion. Could you add a rare candy symbol plus the amount you have somewhere on your UI? It probably wouldn't take much space and could be useful for the audience to see your current potential level. Great video as always, thanks.😊 Edit: Also perhaps a bag icon on TMs you have in your bag outside of battle.
Hi Scott, thanks for the video. I appreciate the editing you use to draw attention to what you're talking about on the overlay without completely covering the gameplay.
Man, I forgot how amazing these videos really are. Thanks for the awesome content, Scott! Some of the relaxing and interesting commentary on the platform.
I would call Lapras a "Basic" stage Pokémon, but that's because the TCG uses "Stage 1" to indicate the first* evolutions (Ivysaur would be a :Stage 1", for example).
Hey Scott, did you consider going to level 30 for the wrapping lass? You were just a touch away from level 29, then a rare candy gives you aurora beam, speeding her up and the grass types in the cave too. Not backseat gaming, just curious if you looked at it. Love your yellow content my man!
That is a really interesting idea, maybe it’s worth it. Hard to say though because it takes a lot of experience to make up for that level in the lategame when shelder* is already fighting all the moderate to good experience yield trainers as it is
@@ZealousPawn yeah I’m wondering if just one or two S.S. Anne battles would have gotten him there looking at his XP bar. And also what (if any) impact it would have had on the run later with one RC used. I’d love to hear from Scott if it was an option.

After you finally finish all 151 Pokémon solo runs in yellow I think it would be a fun idea to do in S tier full team, versus a bottom tier full team and speed run that as a fun “thank you for supporting this channel” type video or videos depending on how you want to go about it. Btw great job with Shelder! Always love how you give great care and detail to each Pokémon you play with which is why I always love watching your videos 😁🤘
I'm pretty behind at the moment, so I can't watch this yet, but I've been waiting for this playthrough for so long! You've said it's gonna absolutely suck which makes me sad, but getting shellder on the channel is so hype! Great pokemon!!!
I'm glad that after all these years, Scott finally released the Shellder solo. It's funny how Cloyster's high BST gives it the slow experience group since Game Freak wanted to make it harder to raise, which makes Shellder an absolute slog to use. For some feedback, when you compared how well each Water type did vs Brock, it would have been good imo to give time splits past Brock for each Pokemon (at least for the ones you've done already). It would give more of an idea of how bad Shellder has it early on in the game as opposed to other Water types.
Hey Scott, had a Crystal run idea for you, Slowking, don't see too many videos on it in gen 2, and it would probably make an interesting vs video against Slowbro as they are branch evolutions of slowpoke! Politoed as well! I know you'll eventually get to them
Hi Scott. I’ve watched a lot of speed runs on TH-cam and I really like yours. I’ve mentioned it before but one thing I have never seen is a speed run with a full move set from the beginning. I’d really love to see you do Red, blue or yellow with Starmie with Psychic, Surf/hydro pump thunderbolt and Blizzard/ice beam. I just want to see just how quickly it could finish the game

Shellder has the blistering speed of Sandshrew, Porygon and of course, Rhydon. It has the excellent special attack of Graveler, Diglett and of course, Rhydon. Shellder's fantastic attack is on par with Koffing, Venomoth (my favorite Dark/Steel pokemon) and of course half of Rhydon. On the bright side, it's defense is equal to Blastoise.
Tri attack in an unexploited possibility Shellder has better atk than spe, can use this coverage and doesn't learn body slam so it's a rare opportunity
