I used to breed Shilohs one thing I’d mention is still a newer breed so the gene pool you gotta be careful with if you wanna breed, and since it’s a rare breed business is pretty competitive at times, and they are in high demand so they can be pretty expensive. With that they are my favorite breed, and I would highly recommend them as a dog, I don’t breed anymore but I’d gladly have one again

A Shiloh will bond very strongly with one human in the family (the one who spends the most time with him). If the primary human leaves on a trip, for example, it will hurt the bond and the dog can become despondent, resentful, and highly stressed. No dog does well alone, but Shiloh’s are especially frustrated loners. I went on an extended trip once and when I returned it took him over a week to forgive me for my absence. For my next Shiloh I will make an effort to always have him with me or have a companion dog with him at all times.

I never experienced that with my Shiloh. He was ecstatic each time I’d get home off the road.
With that said he bonded like crazy with my other dog. He’d howl and whimper for hours if I had to take my collie to the vet and he had to stay at home. They were inseparable.

I have a 6 year old Shiloh that i got when he was 9 weeks old. He is the best pup ever. He’s smart, affectionate and knows my moods. When my husband passed away, he would comfort me when i would cry. He is also the goofiest pup ever, but beware as they are counter high so nothing is safe from their noses on those counters. They can reach everything! Food, hair brushes, whatever, I’ve found it scattered around the house. As for being a watchdog, he barks, but he did allow someone to steal my car out of my driveway without making a sound to alert me. So…draw your own conclusions. I love thiz dog so much

They are what German shepherds looked like when I was a kid in the 1980s. Our dog Zimba was a tall, straight backed, great hipped beast of a dog who looked after his two little charges and was a great companion dog to our border collie.❤

I remember the first time I seen a shiloh shepherd! Me and my wife was walking our gsd and we happened to see our neighbor walking this huge dog that looked like a bear! Our gsd was still a young pup and when she got near the shiloh she wanted to play. But unfortunately for my gsd the shiloh did not lol. The shiloh let out a bark like a deep sounding one like if he was telling her I’m not in the mood 😂. Good thing the shiloh shepherd was nice because he could have easily hurt my little baby gsd. 😂

I wound up adopting a 20 month old male Shiloh Shepherd, although I was told he was a GSD. I know GSDs, so I knew his build was different. He certainly acts a lot like a Shiloh from what I’ve learned. He has not been well socialized, & I’m working on it. He’s a good sweet boy, but huge and scared of new people he sees suddenly, or else he’s unhappy to see people walking their dogs past our home. I’ve resorted to getting a special no pull harness w/ two hooks, to teach him not to pull when walking. Putting up an invisible fence, so I’ll have an off leash area to safely train him to obey. Then I can take him swimming, etc. I live in the country near lakes, rivers, and it’s be nice to take him to places I can let him off leash to really run.
As he’s not from a reputable Shiloh breeder I’m aware of, I’m having him
neutered at the end of the month. Also doing a DNA test to find out exactly what he is, & screen for potential health issues. The pic is of him. He’s about 90 lbs, or 198 kilos. Everywhere we go, people stop and stare, comment on how striking his looks are. He’s still an enormous puppy. Likes to curl up in a ball and wrap his giant plume of a tail around his face when he sleeps.

First Shiloh I ever met belonged to my brother, out of state. It was still a puppy. We were given a list of rules to follow when meeting it. "Don't approach too quickly. Don't look it in the eye. If you want to pet it, put your hand out slowly so he can sniff it first, and don't reach for him. No quick moves." There were other rules to follow, but these were enough to put us off. You have to walk on eggshells when you are in their house. The dog has grown to be skittish, aggressive/defensive. It has to be kept in a crate if other people, kids, or pets come to visit. We will not visit again until this dog is gone. Does anyone else see any problem here.

I would just wait until you're better off financially and have a bigger place.
I live in a one bedroom apartment that has a laundry room, kitchen, and living room albeit small. As much as I would love to have a dog I can't afford one at this time nor do I have the time.
So, I definitely understand where you're coming from. Honestly, I want to wait until I start my own family and have progressed more in my career before getting a dog. Having a family where I can be a husband with a wife and children would make owning a dog more manageable tbh.

But with pups you should care it’s very important if you are gonna be spreading information about pups. If you love the breed keep them away from the kennel clubs 😂
