Why do we breed animals to need such coat care? That's quite an ordeal every month during the season. I know Girl with the Dogs does a good job, but it's hard on her and the dog.

I've meet one Shiloh Shepard...I thought his name was Shiloh and they were just introducing him funny. My friend tried to explain to me they were exclusive, rare, and expensive and I told her "Shiloh looks just like Felix" Felix was the family long-haired German Shepherd. Everyone acted like I slapped the lady, now I know why 😂
Kids will humble anyone
If a shiloh is expensive, I would not go with that breeder. Shiloh shouldn't be more than 3k, like any other ethically bred dog. If it's more than that, the breeder is just greedier and you should go somewhere else.
Well to some 3k is expensive. But I agree I’ve never talked with a breeder that had any more than 3k or less that 2300, though I want a breeding prospect puppy.
@@Agvarst0517 3k is not expensive for an ethically bred dog. Some doodles go for 5k to 10k, as well as unethically bred brachy breeds because they cannot breed without help with AI since they can't do ut naturally.
@@blackwingedwolf666I would argue $3k is expensive for any dog. I get it. Breeding is expensive. I have owned pure breds and rescues. But ultimately $3k is a lot for me to spend on anything not a vehicle or an entire house. Lol😅

I'm not spending that kind of money on a pure bred dog that had hip issues and only lives 9 years when I can get one for $100 from the shelter, insure it and pay so much less. People are insane. I genuinely don't know why ANYONE would pay for a purebred dog.

Shiloh Shepherds are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and versatility.
Regular grooming is an essential part of caring for a dog's coat and overall health, so it's excellent that your Shiloh Shepherd was cooperative during the process.

I miss my Shiloh. He passed 8 months ago at the age of 13. He was sweet, a bull in a china shop, mischievous even in his older years, and a bit of a baby. Great breed.

We have two Shilohs. Our adult son took our first Shiloh when he moved to Colorado 3 years ago. She loves the cold and snow. We missed Karma so much that we got our second who will be two in October. They are both fabulous, sweet dogs. We also have a 15-year-old cat and they are wonderful with her. We highly recommend Shilohs and think they are the best dogs we’ve had. Most breeders have long waiting lists, so if you think you’ll want one, think ahead.

My retriever, lab, shepherd mix had gorgeous flowing black fur. She looked like a flat-coated retriever with a face that was less heavy. Turned into a lanky drowned rat when we bathed her. This was the 90's and early 2000's. Never went to a groomer. Instead we had to brush her out and had to vacuum the entire first floor of the house EVERY FREAK'N DAY. XD But she was worth every second of it. She took it upon herself to be our nanny dog and would herd us closer to the house and if we were up to no good she would TELL ON US! 20 years later and I miss her every day.
The worst part, after 3 hours at the groomer, she probably didn’t last an hour before she went swimming and undid all that work. But, she is so sweet, she would be forgiven! 💕

Willow is such a sweet & precious dog. Considering the discomfort and/or pain Willow felt during the brushing through of her heavy matted fur, Willow did an amazing job trying to stay still & keeping her well behaved demeanour in tact. ❤❤❤
I love that you never shame the owners in these videos and instead express your understanding that different dog breeds, personalities, experiences (my dog has never even seen a pond lol) leads to different challenges to keeping them clean, healthy, & happy.

The air drying for Shilohs doesn’t just cause matting- it can also cause issues such as hot spots and skin infections (fungal and bacterial).
I think that sort of applies to most "plush" dogs! Lol
Applies to many giant hairy breeds I think. I know it applies to my Berner especially when we live in a hotter climate. Thankfully we moved to the Central Highlands of Mexico and heat isn't a problem

I rescued a dog that was never groomed and was matted from the top of his head to the tip of his tail. The vet said he was approximately 6 years old and it looked like he had never been groomed. They shaved him and he was so happy. Also, never use scissors to cut a mat that's down to the skin off a dog or cat. It will cut their skin and require stitches from the vet. Use a grooming shaver the way she does.
I use scissors to clip a mat so I can break it up with no problem. I put a finger in at the bottom of the mat so if anyone gets clipped it is me.
@@laurabailey1054 You gotta remember a lot of people don't have common sense and aren't willing to risk a finger. Saying "don't do it" is a good warning for most people, unless you're confident in your abilities.
@@laurabailey1054if you cut a mat in half, you can then break it apart with your fingers sometimes. Obviously not ideal but could work if it's close to the skin.
Thank you for showing this breed. most people think they are long coat GSDs but these videos help show their true personalities/temperament. it’s a wonderful breed.
1) My dog would never shake off all the water until AFTER I removed her from the tub. I always had to keep a giant towel on hand to drape over her just to keep the room from getting soaked.
2) I wish I knew about those nozzle washer things when I still had my dog. It's difficult to try and rinse an uncooperative 80 lbs. Rottweiler Sheppard mix with a handheld shower head.
4:48 my cat demands hugs for moral support when he’s getting a bath. He’ll wrap his front legs around whatever part of you he can reach and cling. Luckily he knows not to use his claws.
Omg, Czech Wolfdog? That explains a LOT about why the Shiloh's so chill and have great personalities. The Czech Wolfdogs are freaking WONDERFUL. I highly suggest folks to go read up on them!

Our nextdoor neighbours had a purebred GSD who had one ear up and one ear floppy even after she became an adult. She was friendly and more than a bit goofy. I absolutely adored her.
My GSD mix rescue has ears like that, too! One stands up, the other flops. That was one of the things that caught my attention. ❤🐾

I have a gsd/mal mix, a black lab mix, and a 100% golden retriever. I can testify that dogs who find water in ALL places...ponds, lakes, mud puddles, and swimming pools, will shake first and RUB second. Thank goodness it's only my golden and lab who love water. Although, I love that about them, the clean up and grooming is CONSTANT. I learned a lot from this grooming session. Thank you, for saving her amazing coat!

What a sweet, gorgeous dog. I flinched when Vanessa had to pull on the mats, which bought to mind my mother brushing through my matted curls when I was a child in the 1950’s. We didn’t have the products that help untangle hair back then like we do now. It would be a shame if this beautiful dog ever had to be shaved down because of her matted coat. Wonderful job, Vanessa! Oh my goodness! This Shiloh looks exactly like our Cosette (RIP)! She was my ❤ She lived till she was 14! Excellent breeding by Miracle Shiloh Shepherds on PEI. Cosy loved water & loved to drink it from the hose. She was the best dog that ever walked the planet (said her Mommy😆)! My hubs used to travel A LOT & we got Cosy so I would feel safe. Since they look part wolf ppl were cautious of her. I truly believe she helped me raise our kids! If they were going out to play I always told them, "Take Cosy w/ you!" bc I knew she would guard them. She never snapped or growled at anyone, but would bark like an angry dog if she saw a stranger on her property. Exactly what I wanted her to do! She alerted us once when a "bad" guy came to our house as a guest. She just stood in front of him & blocked him from our kids. Didn't make a noise, but stood solidly on all fours like a wall. We'd never seen her do that before so we investigated him after he left. Found out this dude really WAS bad! Once she protected my hubs when some runaway dogs came by. They were nice dogs but one of them tried jumping up on my hubs...a big no-no at our house! Soon as Cosy saw the dog in the air she jumped up between them, gave a warning growl & bared her teeth. The dog got the message & they went back to playing. When people came over or when we would come home she'd run around to find one of her toys & present it to them/us as a gift & if she brought you her green alligator it was an honor!. We've lost her but we've got her great nephew & another male Shiloh that came from a different groomer bc we couldn't get to PEI. Both are as gentle as can be but I don't doubt they'd take action if they believed we were at risk! Just last June one of the boys ran a bear off our property! Shilohs are AMAZING dogs! Train them correctly, love love love on them, & you've got an amazing friend for life! Cannot praise this breed enough, but as usual, do your homework when shopping for an honest breeder!💗💙💙

All my life I was sure I wanted german shepperd. I was wrong. Shiloh is what I need. Just perfect combination of everything I want from a dog.

I swear like 75% of the dogs enjoy these grooming sessions after a couple minutes in. They realize she isn't going to hurt them and they just accept it.
Not Willow.
None of the dogs except maybe 5% enjoys/don't care about the grooming sessions. Those who "enjoy" are those who don't pant through the entire session which as you have seen is pretty much none. They don't like any of it they just force them self to endure and how good they are on doing that is totally depending on how good the owners was to learn them, which unfortunate many dog owners don't have the slightest clue about how to do.

Willow has a snout of a czech wolfdog, a size and temperament of a malamute, and a regal presence of a GSD. So wonderful. 😍😍

Vanessa, that was a wonderful job on this beauty of a dog! I could see your level of concentration, determination and how you were angling the high velocity dryer to maximize its efficacy. I find it touching how very much you wanted to preserve Willow’s coat. ❤
What a stunning dog. If we weren’t disabled I’d definitely have dogs as well as my cats.
I'm also disabled. I may not be mobile enough to walk a dog, but I can still brush one often. I got a pekingese. We suited each other. A quick patrol of the back fence was enough exercise for her. I had her for 19 years, and she was both a loving and cranky little companion. Pekes really are eccentric little creatures, but they don't need much in the way of exercise, and they're so little they don't require much training. It's a bit like owning a cat that can't jump, except for on the couch and bed that is.
I am disabled and I have two dogs. I did have 3 and they all played in the back yard. The dogs I have now are an Australian shepherd and a Pyr mix. I have lost most of my mobility in the last three years, I was hit by a car 7 years ago.

I found with my Belgian Tervuren and Groenendaels (longcoated dogs with tons of undercoat) that it wasn't necessary to get them bone dry after swimming to prevent matts.
I taught them all what "settle" meant and after every 6 hour session in the pond (every other day from the day there was no ice in the pond to the first day ice formed), after swimming I'd get out the high velocity blow dryer and blow each of them damp dry while the ones that were wet waited for their turns on their designated spot.
Then they lazed around in the sun until they were bone dry. I spritzed them with either The Stuff For Dogs or Ice on Ice (by Chris Christensen), whipped a pin brush or comb through the problem areas and voilà, no matts.
The whole routine took maybe an hour after each swim but I was doing 6 dogs, so maybe 15 minutes for a single dog (set up and break down time would be the same to get the grooming supplies and dryer out--I had a wagon with an expanded metal bottom for them to stand on that worked well as a grooming table). There was an economy for me in that by the time I had blown out the sixth dog and taken a break myself for a cool drink, the first dog was bone dry--for a single dog, there'd be a bigger break in the middle but the active actually doing something time would only be about 15 minutes.

I found that the key to living with coated dogs wasn't to do one intensive (long) grooming session every once in a while but to do short sessions every single day.
Since I was sometimes prepping a dog to show in the conformation ring, it was easy to just get in the habit of doing all the dogs every single day. A quick lick through the problem areas for the non-campaigning dogs kept everyone's coat in good order.

@@Agvarst0517 they are amazing... for experienced dog trainers who have the time and expertise to keep them gainfully employed! Otherwise, they are what the saying "the devil makes work for idle paws and jaws" are the poster puppies for.

This type of coat needs brushing every day. When you do brush them daily you get used to what their coat will look like season to season. Certain conditions will cause their undercoat to shed quicker. This coat will shed into the brush. In the summer, with daily brushing, the coat is thinner, shinier and finer. The undercoat will be minimal. When the temps are cooler the dog will grow the thick undercoat to stay warm. With this dog, brushing is the most important thing and it will help them stay clean.
