the way that Black Noir started talking to his cartoony imagination revealing his fears and motives was in my opinion incredibly creative to show his past and how he still has an imagination and personality in spite lacking his speech which was some incredible character development and it also made empathy towards the character so much more real which is often slept on.
@@SpecialInMyOwnWay it pissed me off that the show pretended like they did the right thing. They GOT EVERYONE OUT OF THE TOWER lol. They could have ended it right there, and the only people who would have died would have been them. AND huey could have teleported in and saved Ryan, and the boys, homelander, and solider boy would be the only ones dead.
@Jonathan Jones LMFAO he said so IN AN INTERVIEW. Kripke said so himself. And it's blatant in the writing. If you didn't get that part, you were not paying attention or have VERY poor comprehension skills. He said straight up that he wanted to reward Maeve with a happy ending for "doing the right thing" in the end. Lol. So?? That it's a QUOTE "moral universe". He's notorious for doing this in his writing. He did it in supernatural. Dear God. What a pretentious douchebag. Do you even know what the word insecure means? You are painfully slow.
@@ImTheMan0fSteel And Hughie... He would have been dead too. He didn't have powers at the time and the only way to get them would be to inject that extra dosage of V that would lead him to die in a year.
To be fair, grizzled guy that acts like a dick is kinda his tenure from Supernatural. Just that Soldier Boy is ten times worse than Dean, even when he was a demon that one time.
He really did well in this role. Absolutely killed it. Sadly I can't say the same about Sam from supernatural he was really underwhelming in his new show.
Only problem I have with The Boys having powers is that I remember season 1 watching them get creative to kill translucent, I was really for more of that
Same, I figure it was to set up the idea that even though some Supes are OP af there is still a way to take them down. It was probably to show the audience that there will be a way to take out homelander, because on paper he is way to OP to just beat in combat.
:Spoiler Warning: Dude blows someone's head for yelling a single word and everyone praises him, and even worse, Ryan smiles after it. Can't wait for the 4th season, with Nadia as VP and such.
Spoiler warning ⚠️⚠️⚠️ I know I saw that and when Ryan smiled and MM's daughters step dad started cheering I was like, "Oh fuck, the airplane video won't mean shit to him" I think season 4 is gonna be the end
When I realised they were parodying that one bad Pepsi commercial in that one episode I bursted out laughing. This season was amazing. Can’t wait for season 4
Noir’s death definitely hit the hardest. He’s the ONLY member of the 7 through the entire show that constantly showed his loyalty to homelander, all the others turned to other issues and started scheming and lying and getting involved with the boys but not noir. Yes he did lie to homelander for his whole life about soldier boy being his father but my point is that his loyalty was constant the entire show and then homelander just ripped his guts out without a second thought while all the other disloyal members of the 7 had so much as a stern look or talking to after literally planning to kill homelander. It’s also sad too as we see in the last few episodes that noir has a lot of character development and he’s actually really sensitive and imaginative, he’s literally a kid inside his head. He was eager to help homelander end soldier boy for good but he didn’t even get a chance. He got done really dirty and the scene at the end with his cartoon character friends made me cry.
I think Homelander did it because he was emotionally hurt the most by his actions compared to the things the other Seven members had done, he's clearly torn up about it beforehand for a second if you watch his expressions. Noir is weirdly the closest thing he had to an actual father figure/mentor along with Vogelbaum, or if not that, the closest thing to a loyal friend.
I don't think he's dead. The man had his head bashed in and his brains spilt and he's still alive. You're telling me cause he got disembowled he's dead now?
@@s_lvermilk6151 The Deep is loyal in the same way that I'm loyal to paying my taxes... because I have to. The Deep constantly pisses off Homelander and basically everyone else that isn't in the church (which he doesn't even really believe in, he's just using it for influence). It's obvious Deep only cares about his own fame and attention, and that's Homelanders job, so it makes sense that he's taking the back seat until someone takes care of Homelander and he can take a better position.
I love the fights with Homelander this season, he's never actually fought many people who were actual threats to him, it's so satisfying to see his shock when he can't just slice them in half with his laser eyes
Honestly one of the best parts of The Boys is the marketing. Vought has a real actual verified TH-cam channel where they post actual videos in universe. Like they have an A-Train music video, a "house tour" by Ashley of a superhero mansion for a superhero reality show, commercials for merchandise and brand deals, full trailers for movies in the show, clips from the Vought news channel, etc. And the best part is the fan engagement because ALL the comments are people playing along like it's real and they are fans in universe. Like the full Soldier Boy music video just has comments complimenting him and stanning him and talking about how he was such a great hero and he will be missed. And depending on the video the narrative of the comments changes depending on what information the public would have in the show at that point. And you can tell it's not a bunch of bots but like actual fans just having a fun time roleplaying along with the content. It's just really cool and I appreciate that extra step to enhance the world of the show. Also shoutout to Karen Fukuhara who plays Kimiko, she has her own youtube channel where she not only does normal youtube content but she also talks about her routine on the show and she does Q&A's with other actors from the show like Erin Moriority who plays Starlight or the woman who plays Stormfront.
Well said! I couldn’t agree more. The amount of dedication this is in making this show and creating its world and universe is absolutely outstanding and I don’t think is something any other show or movie has ever done before.
@@connorkonen5770 Yeah in the modern day of so many shows (good and bad) just being pumped out to release, just "here's this episode, here's this episode, here's the rest of the episodes, see you next season", it is really refreshing and worth commending when shows put in the effort like this to really flesh out the community experience.
they have a dedicated twitter account and a site for selling they sex toys aswell and I like how people are playing along as if they're part of the theboys universe
Word. Loved how they turned his character around. He’s still selfish, or at least adamant on keeping himself afloat, but he tried to do something good. Even if he failed miserably. And his punishment was terrible. I would have been happy if he died where he technically did. But the fact that he’s still alive, the way vought forced him back to life, it’s sick.
Yeah, They couldn't create a more perfect anti-Chris-Evans-Captain-America if they deepfaked him 30 years from now. He looks and sounds like Evans Cap's evil twin and it's downright terrifying lol
@@SomeTH-camTraveler What's even scarier is that Jensen and Chris are friends irl. Chris said that it could've been Jensen for Captain America but he was busy at the time with Supernatural.
I mean he seemed sane at the start of the season for like eight seconds, but yeah, why she chooses to stay with him is beyond me. I feel like they’ll have him end up getting killed by Homelander as collateral damage or something
the biggest letdown in the final episode to me was when Hughie turned up all he lights and shit to fully juice up Starlights powers and she started flying and glowing and looked badass just to knock back soldier boy a bit. i expected like an all powerfull blast ripping a hole into him but it was just puny really
Block noir became my favorite character with just one scene. The fact that he has cartoon animals that talk to him and help him deal with his anxiety and help lift him up all the main one having a stutter is amazing.
I like how much this season focused on character development ngl. Butcher, Kimiko and Frenchie, M.M, A-Train, Black Noir, even minor characters like Mallory all had a fair amount of depth this season and now I understand their motives even more.
I loved the growth in Hughies character in just a few episodes. Starting out with feeling like he needed powers so he could protect Annie, and then getting those powers, to now, rather than choosing power and strength, he found other ways to "save her". Maybe I over analyzed that, but when he turned up the power and put away the temp v, damn that was great character growth
It really does. The concept of temporary powers is definitely not just a gimmick, it really builds onto the character's. Butcher can finally fight homelander, Hughie isn't helpless. Kimiko becomes greatful of her powers. It does become cluttered, but the writers are really trying to make every character matter.
Honestly didn’t expect this season to make me respect Ashley. She manages to constantly get shit on by everyone and still manages to still keep the company from imploding while the heroes try everything in their power to ruin everything and grows enough spine to call A-Train a hypocrite to his face.
What I really love about season 3 is Buther and Hughie's temp V powers, how ironic both of their powers are Hughie having to go naked for his power like translucent and Butcher having lazer eys like homelander I just believe that the irony behind it is great.
A moment in Herogasm that flew under the radar which I loved was when MM explains his OCD to Starlight "All I know is that if I didn’t check the burners three times a night, Soldier Boy would come back and kill the rest of us". Writing and characters in this show is incredible.
@@socksman9968 yeah I don’t think the finale ruined it for me since I enjoyed the other seven episodes a lot, and really most of the finale except for the climax but they really should’ve done more. Just one extra would’ve gone a long way
Black Noir's death was, oddly, the saddest death in the show for me, something about it, like how his cartoon friends were there for him at his last moment and the fact that he was, pretty much, a kid in the inside. I was surprised The Deep didn't die though.
I think it was pretty lazy. They put in so much development into Noir throughout this season just to suddenly kill him off without any payoff. I get what they were going for, but it didn't feel deserving of the buildup. Almost feels like this isn't the end for Noir and he did survive this somehow. But if I had to guess, he's really gone.
I think the reason the compound V was so easily stolen was to fully shown how poorly managed Vought is since Homelander took over and the Deep got sealife in charge of security 😂
M.M. was a surprising standout character this season. The actor did a fucking awesome job and I love how much they delved into the mental struggle of not only his character, but everyone else as well.
One underrated aspect of this season that I feel they knocked out of park was the in-universe media. Songs like "Licence to drive", "Chimps Don't Cry", and "Soldier Boy's Rapture", are surprisingly enjoyable to listen to. And seeing fans of the show in the comments of Vought's social media posts and videos roleplaying as in-universe people, is an amazing feat for a show like this to pull off without seeming overly forced.
i think "the Deeps" story is deeper than Charlie is giving credit. I think it was a good take on couples who's main connection is upward social mobility.
I agree, but out of all of the remaining Seven (except Noir) and The Boys, I feel like the Deep is just less developed this season. I think that was what Charlie was getting at.
The Deep is honestly such an underrated character, because he’s played for comedy (and rightfully so, he should be laughed at, he’s a bad person). But despite his shittiness, he still experiences a lot of abuse and manipulation from the people around him. It’s hard to watch sometimes, which I guess is why they made it funny. If there was nothing to laugh at it would just be uncomfortable and weird.
On the note of the V. I feel like it makes sense, it started out being this mythical substance that you don't hear or see in the show except in express circumstances. But due to The Boys and the things they've done to expose compound V, it's dragged it out the shadows. The reason Compound V was so hard to get, was because no one even knew about it in the first place and now that people are more aware of compound V. Vought doesn't have to hide it around as much as they used to and the protagonists of the show don't have to sniff very far to get what they dragged into the light. It's not that it's plentiful, it's that the protagonists know how and where to get it more importantly.
More importantly, the boys finally opened their circle of trust to other heroes. Once they got people on the inside. A lot of the sneaky, covert stuff were unnecessary
@@JGRL0RD no because they were kind of mass producing it and getting it ready to send to armies all over the world. Definitely expensive but not trillions
Main issue with the finale is Noir’s death. Aside from that, starlight’s ultimate powerup just do a little knock-back move was goofy and the fighting didn’t really lead to much/do anything crazy. The show is still top tier and nothing else comes close to how solid the writing and acting is here.
Nah Noir is coming back next season for sure. The guy got too much character development to just die like that, and also he's known to have some form of regeneration, like when he survives a point blank explosion from the supe terrorist, or when soldier boy beats his brains out. Also yeah the starlight moment was just cool to look at i guess?
I think Annie's powerup went more towards healing her than actual firepower. She was pretty much beaten up until that point. She floated, which was cool, but she mostly got her equivalent of a gatorade and a powernap.
@@razarryan2465 they also said solider boy was dead but look at him now. also homelander just thinks he's dead correct me if im wrong but noone else says noir died.
Can we talk about how in the finale, Starlight spent over a minute charging up her power, only for the result to be a weak push to Soldier Boy. It even sounded like a Wet Fart, which was fitting.
@@callumsnaylam4252 Exactly its Soldier Boy, he got a knockback from Ryan's laser too. Maybe at the very least they could've knocked him off the building or burn his skin.
Yeah.... He wasn't even disoriented or blinded by all that power which really put a damper on the big finale fight. Idk if it was cuz if the budget, but the payoffs was indeed a little lackluster with the whole fight happening on just 1 floor too
Honestly, I wish Black Noir got more screen time, at least a small fight with Homelander would have been nice but at the same time the sudden death did have impact. This was overall the best season and I think the finale of season 3 worked more as a setup for a future episode instead of a finale. Obviously a finale that'll go onto another season should have aspects to set up for more, BUT I feel like the finale lacked the feel of a finale.
Another note, the ending with Homelander in the finale felt genuinely, accurate to how the real world would work and I think it's hilarious and really links the viewer up with the show even further than it already could, not saying it didn't before.
that ending was so perfect, the fact Homelander can just blast someone like that and his fans support him is one step closer to him ruling over all, we’ll get some real destruction next season 100 percent
I mean TOOOOO be fair, the guy who got blasted assaulted a literal child. I think homelander only blasted the dude because it hit ryan, he can handle people talking shit but fucking with the only thing he cares about in the world, tough luck
@@alexh2797 yeah this confirms it. He will be a full dictator and killing people who he dislikes. And I hope ryan would be like homelander so we can see how butcher deal with it lol
I don't think there is a single bad line read from any character in the show. Every actor deserves an Emmy for at least one thing every scene. Anthony Starr's performance is just so legendary you sometimes forget just how amazing everyone else's acting is too. The real hero of the show is the casting director.
The girl who plays starlight isn’t really vibing with me, lots of blank stares and kind of flat delivery.. she was good in season 1 tho. Everyone else is awesome always
@@VeryBadVideos I think the actress does a great job, the power scaling of starlight falls very short though. She was supercharged and able to even fly just to knock soldier boy back a couple feet and knock herself out, pretty disappointing tbh
Considering how much they change the characteristics and the storyline flow compared to comic version, i would probably say Jensen Ackles really do a good performance.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about Kimiko. I think she got some of the most development as a character this season, which is particularly noteworthy because she falls into the "silent but lethal asian woman" trope that even the writers regret using. I think the writing on her arc was very well crafted, especially seeing how her relationship with Frenchie was impacted. One thing I'm on the fence about her arc tho was that random musical scene, which really isn't that "random" or surprising anymore because I feel like random musical moments are pretty trendy in tv nowadays, but it was executed well and it was nice seeing Kimiko in that tone. I do agree that the finally was sort of underwhelming
i was sort of disappointed in kimikos arc, when she finally lost her powers she immediately took them back. felt like a bit of a backstab in the writing.
My question is, why has he _still_ not just killed all or most of them by now. We've already established that all his reasons for not doing so are gone. There's literally zero leverage against him anymore. He could just fly on over to wherever Huey is, pop his head, and what's anyone gonna do about it? He had Deep assassinate _a VP candidate_ ffs. Just send A-Train to splatter them all, like everyone was afraid he'd do back in season 1 when Homelander still cared about his image. After that final scene, where he realizes he really _can_ "walk down 5th avenue and shoot someone and not lose any fans" (obvious parallel is obvious), if the Boys aren't all being hunted down at the start of S4 this show will have officially lost its stakes. Also, the fact that Head-Popper Neumann was the Season 3 cliffhanger, and then got set up as a huge wildcard threat in the first half of the season... but then completely disappeared from the plot, was a big waste. In line with the first part of my comment, now that all the heroes have turned down working with her, there's no plausible reason that none of their heads have exploded yet.
@@SomeTH-camTravelerfor all Homelander knows Huey and butcher now have powers, and as we saw butcher alone held him off for quite some time, not to mention they also have starlight with them so he couldn't really just go there and kill them as for a train, up until the very end of the season he couldn't really run like he did back then, maybe in the next season they'll explore that.
the scene where starlight leaked a social media about HL and supes in general was one of my fav scenes this season, it gave me goosebumps... what actually terrified me tho was the finale where HL merks a dude in broad daylight in front of a crowd of people and janine's step cheers for him... that really makes me think HL is gonna be unhinged next season
If youve read the comics you know what he’s gonna do. Which means s4 might be the last season. I wonder if theres gonna be anything new to fill in the gaps between the seasons like they did with 7 on 7 with cameron coleman.
Gotta say Anthony Star, Karl Urban and now Jensen Ackles are extremely top tier actors in The Boys. I could definitely see Karl Urban or Anthony Star getting a reward for their performances in this show. I can't wait for season 4 this has gotten to be my favorite show by far
The finale isn’t so much underwhelming and more just feels like it’s not the finale, when season 4 starts I imagine these 2 seasons will blend together a lot more and feel like 1 long season, whereas the first 3 seasons are very distinct from eachother and the finale/first episode sets a line that you’ll remember changing things, namely Stormfront arriving at the beginning of season 2 and being defeated at the end. It almost feels like next Friday I’m going to tune into prime and just keep watching it really
Reminder that other shows like aot have reclaimed a city from titans for the first time in their history, captured the female titan, uncover the real enemy amongst them, learn about the coordinate, destroy the royal family, reclaim wall maria & uncovered the truth of the world. All this while Butcher and his team are stuck playing catch and release with Homelander. Building up the story and characters is great but without any sort of payoff within the season, it’s doesn’t come off as good writing.
@@KW-ng8nd attack on titan doesn't have filler, Only long shows with hundreds of episodes have filler if they have to keep airing stuff weekly or whatever. It really isn't the norm. I disagree with the boys not having payoff, as a bunch of stuff changes. It's just that the goal was killing homelander, which failed, so feels a bit anti-climatic
@@Dorma_ Killing Homelander was probably not going to be an option for the writers once they were confident they’d get a S4 because of how Antony Starr is their standout actor and his character is the show’s long-term main antagonist. So they had to find a way to do the finale without killing him. It ended up coming out a bit underwhelming but it was still a good finale I think. Hopefully if they get a S5 they can find better ways to not kill Homelander in S4 while still maintaining a good amount of payoff for the plot. Like maybe for this season they could have ended it with Homelander getting de-powered tho I get why they ended up not doing that to keep him as a powerful antagonist.
***SPOILERS*** If you think about it, there's only 3 things that season three has changed: 1. Ryan now likes (maybe?) Homelander 2. Butcher is dying in 12/18 months 3. Black Noir is dead Aside from that, everything that season three presented us can be skipped. Soldier Boy? He only appeared to kill a bunch of side characters that we haven't see before and most of us don't even care, and at the end he was captured again. Butcher and Hughie having temporary powers? It doesn't matter because they can't use that shit without dying, so they probably are not gonna use again (except for Butcher, because he is already dying). Maeve without powers? Well, she barely used her powers in this season. The Kimiko arc where she hates killing and thinking she's a monster and then lost her powers? It doesn't matter, because she gain her powers back and accept that she's a monster, so at the end nothing changes for her.
The finale for this season felt weird mainly because it felt like they made it with the knowledge that they were for sure getting a season 4, so they did more setups for future arcs. The other two seasons had a finale where the show could've been canceled and still had a somewhat cohesive ending.
@Chris Cutshall nah, pretty much every show out there have a ending in the creator mind when it come out, for the boys it would be 5 seasons, if they happen to stretch it after that it will 100% become like TWD, Supernatural, Lost, and every show that have hundreds of episodes but after a certain point become a trainwreck, that you can clearly see where the show was supposed to end and when it started to become garbage that people only keep up to know how it will end I hope they don't do that with the boys
@@luisfilipe2747 Kripke does not like fuckin with more than 5 seasons too. His plan for Supernatural was specifically 5 seasons and he yeeted out of there when they wanted to make more. Apparently he has same plan for the boys, but you never know with producers.
Yeah, the finale does seem a bit underwhelming. It feels like everything ended where it started, but there's a lot of setup for the next season. I just hope they don't prolong things for more than needed. Lot of character development in this season, which is getting me more excited for the next one.
Yeah, I feel you. Things just feel like they reset hard when a season ends, and most of the big plot points they set up in the season finales don't really seem to have much of an impact on the next season.
@@Baronnax i really liked the finale but i agree, the only thing thats changed really is neumans moved up a tier in the politcal world and homelander has people who support him killing people who oppose him now so thats gonna be fun for season 4
Just disappointed because all the other episodes were 9 or 10/10s. Finale was a 7, maybe an 8. I didn‘t like that the show wasn‘t braeve enough to kill certain characters, and I do hope that it wasn‘t Noirs last scene because it doesn‘t feel like his arc is over. But other than that, with Ryan becoming evil, it‘s gonna be one hell of a fourth season
@@lonick1692 There's a lot of small changes too. Hughie dealt with his feelings of being weak, MM resolved personal issues (and opened up to his daughter, which will make the stepdad relationship a lot more interesting), Ryan being influenced by his dad, and a possibility of Stan coming back. Also I'm hoping for Noir to come back. I feel like his story's not done yet
Maeve saying to someone “you should wear a sign that says ‘raw dog me I’m a bottom’” made me laugh so hard. I’ll be thinking about that one for a while
Only thing about the finale that really disappointed me was Black Noir. That being said I’m 100% sure he’s not dead and he’ll definitely be Stan’s final play against Homelander. SPOILER Eric Kripke said this in an EW interview: “Come season 4, which will start filming this August, Mitchell will play "a different character who wears the Black Noir suit," Kripke reveals. "It's definitely not the last we've seen of Black Noir as a hero. It's just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season 3, he's gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season." Sounds like the Noir from the last 3 seasons will be replaced by a new character that wears his suit.
@@gvairsoft5994 I saw that as the last bit of humanity leaving him so he can be brought back by Vought as the soul-less automaton he projects with his persona. I’m just choosing to believe lol.
One of the things I really appreciate about this show is how the most powerful supes have awful fighting choreography. Nobody with that much inhuman talent for destruction in a mundane world would actually ever feel the need to learn martial arts or even train at all. Why on earth would they?
@Asher Kime Train their fighting skills. Since homelander cant get hurt by basic weapons he shouldve learned a bunch of fighting styles just in case cus in his case they can be very useful in street fights or shit like this when he gets ganked by 2 similary powered individuals and you cant do much about it because one is almost as strong as you and the other is a powered up ex - SAS and CIA operative
i wouldn't really say that, maeve and soldier boy were competent, it was more so homelander that exhibited that. Soldier boy in particular had no trouble either with butcher or homelander apart from homelander having superior strength, he was also a good enough tactician to know that kimiko would try to lunge at him while he was distracted
That is incredibly incorrect. Human martial art works under two premises: Moderate damage and lower than that durability. Superhero combat is more akin to a pillow-fight - low damage and high durability. Superhero optical fighting methods would look entirely differently than of normal martial arts (ex: quantity of punches > quality). Soldier Boy exchanging fists with Homelander and it looking like they bitch-slapped each other repetitively….. is accurate. Soldier Boy can survive a Tzar bomb (Russian scientist referencing the “nuclear field test” in Russian with dates matching IRL Tzar bomb test). Homelander is exactly like that. And, therefore, it stands to reason that their durability is far far beyond their offensive measures. It is not even close…. Rendering their fight a bitch-slapping/pillow fight contest. Martial arts with different weak points, different ratio of strength-to-durability will act differently. Homelander was punched solidly like…. 20 times. And all he got was a minor bruise at most.
Ohhh shit that was a good one too but the best part will always be Hughie saying "Its Hughing Time" and teleporting inside HL's cockhole and punching his scrotum. Man that scene will always hit me in the feels.
Every time I thought I knew what was gonna happen, this season took me to school. What an absolute blast. I loved the finale, personally, the only thing I don't get is how one of the characters survived.
The only way that makes sense to me is that her durability made it so that it only stripped her powers rather than burning her alive and that she landed right on top of soldier boy cushioning her then they landed on something soft. All that is a lot of head canon though
Not just Antony, but Jensen Ackles as well. So many people are still fan girling over him on Twitter but he was delivering his role so well. The show definitely gave him the recognition he deserved.
Overall I loved the season, the finale was definitely missing a good payoff though. The fights felt like they were missing something, Herogasm’s payoff felt the most satisfying especially with the set up from the episode before. Some characters felt like they did a 180 in the finale as well as some weird decisions with certain characters. Herogasm felt like more of a finale than the actual finale.
Jensen’s interpretation of Soldier Boy was pretty good. They gave Soldier Boy a very gritty hardened personality opposite to his comic character. I guess it’s because we got to see Anthony Star’s character develop but hey I enjoyed this season, Jensen coming from the end of the Supernatural series into this was an interesting transition.
Favorite comedic scene was easily the parody of Gal Godot's "Imagine" video collab. The best part is they don't even change it, they just copy it to a T and it's hilarious because of the context of the scene and the context of real life
Also, Miko's development was nicely done too. Not that she was ever really a dull character imo, but I like that her character growth wasn't anything awful. Shocking at times, but not bad.
Don't forget how she looks fresh and pretty in this season, probably because she's happy now, not always being a killing machine and Frenchie changed her life. Frenchie and Kimiko are the true couple goal. Meanwhile, Starlight looks horrendous with that weird lips and I found out the actress recently got a Botox. No wonder Hughie has a trouble with her in this season.
One of the worst shows I've ever seen. I couldn't get past the second episode. The only thing good about it was Karl Urban, but he wasn't in the show enough to save it.
I love Charlie’s reviews on stuff, very honest and informative. Just wish he’d have a section at the end of the video with spoilers so that he can tell all his honest thoughts at different crazy moments. Also spoilers: Totally agree with the overuse of Temp V this season, but I think it was easier to get because they actually have Maeve on their side, and she’s been at the tower long enough and WAS trusted enough to be able to sneak in and steal some.
More Spoilers: I was also on the whole "ok now they're overusing the hell outta Temp V to get shit done". However, like you said, it kinda makes sense how they got it through Maeve. I think that they were building up a realization for the characters. Now that Maeve is retired and in hiding, and Starlight is officially one of the Boys, there won't be a way for them to get Temp V anymore (and also the side effects that it'll kill them). So now they'll have to go back to using dirty tactics to get one up on the supes
MM has been in my top 5 characters on the show since season 1 and I’m so glad he got a lot more attention this season. Really just bolstered my love for Laz Alonzo’s performance.
@@johannesziaether3916 "You ain't a hero, you are just another racist piece of shit we can't seem to get rid of."-MM, He says this to Soldier Boy, who during the entire season does not say one thing related to race and who even praised Bill Cosby, claiming he is America's Dad.
I loved that Maeve's actions during the final climactic fight really displayed that more than everyone else there--at her core--she really is a hero. All of The Boys are either broken people or good people doing what they have to acting out of rage and vengeance, but none of them really have the instinct to be heroic and pull the ultimate sacrifice play. Maeve was the only one in the room with the instincts to do what needed to be done and I thought that just put such a beautiful bow on her character arc thus far. I cried at her noble redemption.
@@badnoodlez yeah for that, ill disagree that shes a true hero; i will however say, its pretty clear with Maeve/Annie's relationship that Maeve sees her past self, before she became more like the Seven- in Annie
This show expresses so much pent up rage. Over and over in every different character, and I love it. Every one of the characters is repressed in some way, and every one of them is trying to rage it out in their own way. Ok well not every character, but many of them. I haven’t seen the final one yet, but I’m glad to hear it’s continuing because I’d trade a weak finale for another full season.
@@bennify1 Hueys rage with always being weaker than everyone, Butchers rage with himself and Homelander, Starlights rage with Huey and Homelander, MMs rage with himself and his daughter situation, Frenchies rage with who controls the leash, Kimikos rage knowing shes the violence not her powers, Soldier Boys rage at his team, and Homelanders rage at Butcher and knowing how right Stan Edgar was.
Now that I think about it, pretty much every single character had some type of development. We find out about Victoria Neuman's past, while also revealing Stan Edgar's human side as an adoptive father who seemed to genuinely care about this woman. Kimiko went through her Journey, same with Frenchie having to deal with his past. We find out about the origin of MM's OCD. We go inside the mind of Butcher and learn more about his abusive father and Lenny. Even Ryan went through a bunch of changes, even if they were mostly off screen. This show is a straight up masterpiece, i fukin love it. It's diabolical in the best way possible.
Yeah, I like how they tied their past all in smoothly this season. I especially like how Madelyn was telling her story and Butcher interrupted her to go earl in the toilet and 10-15 minutes later in the show he comes out to tell her to finish where she left off. lol
This season felt like they were loading the bullets, and while we were hoping for the bang in the finale, it felt more like they were cocking the gun to give us a big load next season!
Herogasm (ep6) feels like a finale worthy episode. Was literally the outstanding episode in this season if not the enitre show. I think it was so hard to follow this and we were expecting so much more from the finale after seeing it.
A smart TV show will give you the finale's action on the episode before and use the finale to build up suspense for the next season, or to answer a bunch of questions
@@Alexis-no4yj right Herogasm was a good episode but it was hyped to the max so by the time I saw it I think I had my expectations too high, yeah there’s some cool moments but I think the episode after it is just as good if not better
@@Alexis-no4yj because, it's our first taste of seeing a god be wounded. And it took a 1v3 to do it. It broke Homelander's sense of invulnerability, made the audience feel like the heroes, who have been in every single way the underdogs throughout the entire show, finally have a chance at winning. It's a case of David and Goliath.
The Boys is the only show i’ve ever seen where every single character in the massive 12+ character ensemble is PERFECTLY devoloped and and well performed No one gets too much screen time, or too little, it’s so balanced to the point where any one of them could be the main character and it wouldn’t feel off
I feel like Stranger Things also does this well. Where 3 groups do different things but then meet up for the finale (at least that worked well in season 3, don't know for S4 yet)
You explaining the Weiner bit made my whole house moist. Fully agree the finale was disappointing but then again it had to compare against other great episodes so alone it would probably seem great but against those it doesn’t.
I think Meave has easy access to V-24 because: - The Deep incompetently fired most of Vought’s security so they are running on a skeleton crew with only “yes man” who never said anything bad against Supes or Homelander. - The Supes run the company now and Meave is probably the 3rd most popular Supe behind HL and Starlight. She could probably demand V-24 as she’s the boss now.

One of my favorite moments in this season was Homelander’s speech. Very rarely will you find another actor/actress own a character so well just like Anthony Starr does with Homelander. If he doesn’t win an award for this season, there’s something wrong.

This season by far was the best of the damn show. This show is just nuts too butts action and drama. The writing is solid there are good differences from the comics. 10/10 for me
I honestly hope that Soldier Boy gets some sort of redemption arc, and hopefully they don't just leave him in cryostasis for the rest of the series and forget about him. I'm a big fan of Jensen Ackles
It's strange ge they play him out to be a person as bad as Homelander but the guy doesn't seem that way. He very bad and terrible but he's not Homelander. He not a sociopath.
Maeve was originally providing the compound V and then Starlight had to "sneak" into headquarters to get more. But yeah, it wasn't really ever an obstacle.
Considering Vought is the largest and most powerful corporation in this world, it’s laughable how easy it is for people to break in whenever they please.
@VoughtProductions im wondering about this, did queen maeve not see the warning too even though she retrieved temp v twice? why didnt she tell butcher, there's no way she didnt see it
Fun fact: the Joker never even used the phrase “We live in a society” in film until the Snyder cut directly referenced the memes. It’s just been memes causing a Mandela effect to make you believe it was something the joker ever said
Only one misremembering here is you buddy. "We live in society" indeed came from memes, but was never tied to certain movie. Funnily enough, it started on r*ddit of all things
I liked all of the inside messages. Like in season 2 when we got that episode showing fear being spread across social media causing people to be hostile. But this season of course had to go the political route of guns, Jan 6., and god. That was kinda just cringe and didn’t deliver emotion like when that dude popped the gas station clerk thinking he was a supe.
Lol Charlie is such a nice wholesome dude. Watching him geek out about starlight and hughie was heartwarming. All his buddies seem like really nice dudes too
Honestly, Maeve was awesome and was by far the best part of the show this time around. She wasn't used much, but in the little time she had on screen, I really felt the urgency, pain and fear for a character, which is very rare for me. He'll, even horror movies elicit less of a gut reaction than that. To be fair about the V thing. Never once did the regular crew actually get it themselves, it was always an inside job, so it is still believable.
First time I’ve EVER been dissapointed about the boys was actually this finale. Writing for the first time got kinda lazy at parts. The final “battle” was pretty random, (not in a good way) and black noir death super anticlimactic. BUT still a very solid finale, and amazing season still
The Maeve fight didn’t really make sense. So like is she human now? Did she get human laser Blasted. Did she blow up? Also didn’t they drop out of like the top of a tower. If Maeve could’ve survived a fall from that flight then how would she have had trouble dropping into the sea and swimming to land from the plane episode, also was Maeve always strong enough to puncture homelander? Ik it was through the ear but still if his ears were a weak spot wouldn’t they have already tried to exploit it like a sniper? Idk just so much when you re think doesn’t make sense
Theres like zombie shows getting you used to gore (like TWD). Then there's The Boys... they thought of everything and then turned it up a million times. Every kill was just savage or complete obliteration. It never gets boring....and its not even just the gore. Its like, is Homelander going to snap, is there going to be something super messed up thing because of PTSD, Is someone going "f around and find out"? At any given point you never know if you're going to lose primary/secondary characters or just bystanders.
I think the fact we've actually seen Homelander snap, and we've seen him hold restraint... we've seen him hold someone's shoulder and just whisper and leave, and we've seen him grab and then punch their guts out... the fact we genuinely don't know what's gonna happen every time he starts talking to someone, and more and more of these moments are ending in cruelty or death (but some still aren't!), makes it all the more terrifying whenever he enters a room. My biggest question is, why didn't he kill Grace Mallory when he took Ryan? She holds nothing over him. She's literally in hiding like she's in witness protection, so apparently she's not so crucial to government function that it would come back to bite him if he took her out. He killed his best buddy Noir for lying to him, and he's not gonna kill this constant thorn in his side who's essentially (in his mind) kidnapped his son? He knows who she is. He knows her connection to Butcher and everyone. Her survival makes no sense.
@@SomeTH-camTraveler Spot on with the genuine mystery of whats happening. However with Grace, you have to remember they had to hide Ryan so carefully, but with vaught basicallly being turned upside down - thats why Homelander was able to just waltz right in and get him. But in my opinion, being that soldier boys entire team has bean obliterated (allegedly for one BN), Grace would be the only historical link to SB's personal life. Maybe theres some sliver of utility for Homelander with that History.
I feel like the finale was really good but could've been executed a little better. If it had at least one more death or showing of dire stakes the fight would have packed some more of a punch. It was still an amazing spectacle and felt badass.
The finale was nearly perfect. I just didn't like all the stuff involving Ryan. While I don't mind him aiding with Homelander, it felt rushed. And it feels as if he ignores a lot of what people think about Homelander. Including his mother. I also thought involving Ryan was a really cheap way to make sure everyone doesn't just team up against Homelander
I liked it more than most folk seem to on the internet, but I was REALLY exploring Frenchie and Maeve to die. Frenchie had at least a few death flags, but I was genuinely confused as to how Maeve survived that Soldier Boy explosion....
Was anyone else hoping for some Invincible level battle between Homelander and Soldier Boy? Would've been so bad ass and i'm sure they could've gotten the budget, just feels like a missed opportunity having them throw fists in small rooms instead. You never really feel how powerful they're truly meant to be, and some collateral damage would've been insane to see. Edit: I'm not asking for it to literally be on Invincible's scale. But what we did get is extremely basic and i'm never convinced they're dangerous supes when they're fighting each other. They should be breaking right through the walls they throw each other into and have a massive damage radius overall, but instead we have MM casually walking away while Soldier Boy and Homelander duke it out right next to him. The very first ep of the show spent loads on the VFX, with Maeve breaking through a truck and A-train ripping through Hughie's gf in slow mo. By now the budget should surely be bigger than ever with how popular the show is. Remember the Baldur fight in Gow? That's what the show is missing imo.
As much as I love this show so much, this series would’ve benefited so much by being animated instead of live action. Mainly for bigger scale battles because neither Homelander or Soldier Boy felt like they could destroy a city .But we would be missing out fantastic physical performances like Anthony Starr.
Right after I watched this I got really sick, and decided, since I couldn't leave my bed, and I had never seen this, I would just binge it lol. Which I did, for the last few days straight. It's 2 50am for me rn, and I just finished the finale. Fucken amazing, best show I've watched in so long. Thank you Charlie lol
The person who made the show said “this season about is being careful about what you wish for” and damn pretty much every character has their hubris arc.
Yep starlight got power in the boys group but homelander forced a relationship onto them and killed her friend. Hughie wanted to stand up for himself and protect starlight got addicted and almost died. Butcher had his chances to kill homelander at the cost of his sons safety plus his own life, homelander has the company but realize he had no idea what he's doing and is stress out, A train got his heart by a racist guy he hated. Heck even solderboy who just got brought in always wanted a som but became really disappointed because his son was homelander lol. Ashley has the company as well but is losing her humanity and hair. MM had his chances against solderboy but was turning into his father. Maeve kinda got what she wanted and had a happy ending so she was fine.
It's so weird that this season is already over. I'm not used to the whole "wait a week for the next episode" thing anymore. I was bummed that it was going to take so long but... It really flew by. I only wish the season was two episodes longer.

the way that Black Noir started talking to his cartoony imagination revealing his fears and motives was in my opinion incredibly creative to show his past and how he still has an imagination and personality in spite lacking his speech which was some incredible character development and it also made empathy towards the character so much more real which is often slept on.

@@s_lvermilk6151 nah the deep is just kissing homelanders ass cuz he’s scared of him
I think Homelander did it because he was emotionally hurt the most by his actions compared to the things the other Seven members had done, he's clearly torn up about it beforehand for a second if you watch his expressions. Noir is weirdly the closest thing he had to an actual father figure/mentor along with Vogelbaum, or if not that, the closest thing to a loyal friend.

@@kandordnd1601 same! I knew from the moment a train ran through his GF that he would get his revenge one day and get powers
It really does. The concept of temporary powers is definitely not just a gimmick, it really builds onto the character's. Butcher can finally fight homelander, Hughie isn't helpless. Kimiko becomes greatful of her powers. It does become cluttered, but the writers are really trying to make every character matter.
lol and then there's deep
Honestly didn’t expect this season to make me respect Ashley. She manages to constantly get shit on by everyone and still manages to still keep the company from imploding while the heroes try everything in their power to ruin everything and grows enough spine to call A-Train a hypocrite to his face.
What I really love about season 3 is Buther and Hughie's temp V powers, how ironic both of their powers are Hughie having to go naked for his power like translucent and Butcher having lazer eys like homelander I just believe that the irony behind it is great.
Both the getting naked (Translucent) and getting to another place very quickly (A-Train) for Hughie

Maeve litterally gave them the v
More importantly, the boys finally opened their circle of trust to other heroes. Once they got people on the inside. A lot of the sneaky, covert stuff were unnecessary

Fr he's so underrated😂

***SPOILERS***
If you think about it, there's only 3 things that season three has changed:
1. Ryan now likes (maybe?) Homelander
2. Butcher is dying in 12/18 months
3. Black Noir is dead
Aside from that, everything that season three presented us can be skipped.

At this point I think the boys is to Amazon what stranger things is to Netflix, so it's not a risk making a season anymore
@Chris Cutshall nah, pretty much every show out there have a ending in the creator mind when it come out, for the boys it would be 5 seasons, if they happen to stretch it after that it will 100% become like TWD, Supernatural, Lost, and every show that have hundreds of episodes but after a certain point become a trainwreck, that you can clearly see where the show was supposed to end and when it started to become garbage that people only keep up to know how it will end

As far as we know Homelander has just been able to split people in half with his eyes his whole life
i wouldn't really say that, maeve and soldier boy were competent, it was more so homelander that exhibited that.

Yeah, I like how they tied their past all in smoothly this season. I especially like how Madelyn was telling her story and Butcher interrupted her to go earl in the toilet and 10-15 minutes later in the show he comes out to tell her to finish where she left off. lol

Herogasm was not that good lmao, I don’t see how y’all are saying it was finale worthy because the short fight they had
It's a case of David and Goliath.
@@Devakiinable LOL
The Boys is the only show i’ve ever seen where every single character in the massive 12+ character ensemble is PERFECTLY devoloped and and well performed
No one gets too much screen time, or too little, it’s so balanced to the point where any one of them could be the main character and it wouldn’t feel off
Yes 100% even noir’s scenes gave that same vibe
I feel like Stranger Things also does this well. Where 3 groups do different things but then meet up for the finale (at least that worked well in season 3, don't know for S4 yet)
HOLY SHIT I JUST REALIVED THAT. That in of it self is demanding of a reward because of how damn hard it is to do
The only character I would argue is kind of just there sometimes is Maeve
Arcane is another show that did this really well
All I know is that the ending with Ryan is dead center in the vibes of the comic. That smile there. Eric Kripke does an amazing job.
You explaining the Weiner bit made my whole house moist.
Fully agree the finale was disappointing but then again it had to compare against other great episodes so alone it would probably seem great but against those it doesn’t.
I think Meave has easy access to V-24 because:
- The Deep incompetently fired most of Vought’s security so they are running on a skeleton crew with only “yes man” who never said anything bad against Supes or Homelander.
- The Supes run the company now and Meave is probably the 3rd most popular Supe behind HL and Starlight. She could probably demand V-24 as she’s the boss now.

Fr Soldier Boy is the good guy. Favorite character by far.
Wasn't Maeve imprisoned at that point though?
Considering Vought is the largest and most powerful corporation in this world, it’s laughable how easy it is for people to break in whenever they please.
Figured vought just loosened security since the public knew about compound V and that supes are made in a lab
@VoughtProductions im wondering about this, did queen maeve not see the warning too even though she retrieved temp v twice? why didnt she tell butcher, there's no way she didnt see it

I think my favorite thing about the boys is how they pull in new characters and make them on par with the main ones without taking away from them
Honestly, Maeve was awesome and was by far the best part of the show this time around.
The heart of this season was MM.
yeah Maeve was the one getting the v which makes perfect sense why nobody would mess with her or stop it.
First time I’ve EVER been dissapointed about the boys was actually this finale. Writing for the first time got kinda lazy at parts. The final “battle” was pretty random, (not in a good way) and black noir death super anticlimactic. BUT still a very solid finale, and amazing season still
You still can't convince me Noir is dead
It is more like a transitional episode not a finale to me hehe
@@thinhang7300 yeah seriously.
I thought it was amazing, especially the final scene, the final scene is one of the best in the show ever imo

Anthony Star does such a good job even in interviews it feels like something terrible is about to happen
he literally said that
Theres like zombie shows getting you used to gore (like TWD).
Season 4: Very flawed season but a very strong finale
I feel like the finale was really good but could've been executed a little better. If it had at least one more death or showing of dire stakes the fight would have packed some more of a punch. It was still an amazing spectacle and felt badass.
I was like Bull how did mave make it, since she dies in the comics against homelander, like they did the eye galging, but they didn’t adapt the death.
The finale was nearly perfect. I just didn't like all the stuff involving Ryan. While I don't mind him aiding with Homelander, it felt rushed. And it feels as if he ignores a lot of what people think about Homelander. Including his mother. I also thought involving Ryan was a really cheap way to make sure everyone doesn't just team up against Homelander
meave should have died and black noirs death could have been used better tbh
@Jonathan Jones I disagree. It feels way too rushed
@@VarinderBhandal People meat ride animation too much, it’s fine how it is
Lol they literally show the Flatiron building that soldier boy was supposed to blow up at the end of the ep
I agree that there should've been more collateral damage for the final fight, like Invincible.

It's 2 50am for me rn, and I just finished the finale. Fucken amazing, best show I've watched in so long. Thank you Charlie lol
The person who made the show said “this season about is being careful about what you wish for” and damn pretty much every character has their hubris arc.
Literally tho
Having the enemy be named Soldier Boy made this season a lot more enjoyable because I kept thinking they were talking about Soulja boy
It's so weird that this season is already over. I'm not used to the whole "wait a week for the next episode" thing anymore. I was bummed that it was going to take so long but... It really flew by. I only wish the season was two episodes longer.
