I love watching and listening to your videos. You have a very wonderful voice and you’re so No -Nonsense with all your ideas. It is totally criminal what we pay at the grocery stores especially lately and I will grow it instead. It really isn’t a big deal to do as you’ve shown in reality and it’s so much better and it will make you feel so good inside to know what you’ve done yourself. Thank you so much!!😊👍
Great. so glad you’re enjoying my videos and hopefully soon, your own salad. Thanks for watching 😊🌱🌱🥗
I’ve got a load of lettuce in the kitchen about 1” high. Also…. I’ve put my baby tomatoes and cucumbers in the garden today to harden them off. 🥒 🍅 Can’t wait to eat them this summer.
I just started hardening my toms off yesterday. I have aubergines for the first time too. I can’t wait to start eating them either. Happy days. 🥗😊
My salad direct sown outside is doing well for once 👍👍, have a fab week and great tips, Ali 💨🌤️🥶🌧️🇨🇦
do you have it in a raised bed? i can’t direct sow because of pets. Have a fab week yourself. 🇬🇧🇨🇦🌼🌺🌸
@@JillBretherton yep 3 feet off the ground 😊
Do you thin the plants out? Keep them in the foil? Don’t their roots need more room? Love your video, thank you!
I don’t thin. Unless I’m sowing a cut and come again salad I’m careful to space out my seeds. I only transplant if it’s too cold or they are too small to go straight in the garden. i did just plant some sunflowers which I am just editing a video about. they were also started in foil trays. thanks for watching.
Great video, I would also add the quality of your leaves will be so much better too. Here based in the north of England I had to wait until spring to sow salad. Looking forward to picking my own rocket again. The metal trays will be deterring snugs and snails which is crucial in growing salad leaves.
totally. the taste is completely different. I remember my first taste of home grown flat leaf parsley… wow and rocket is my favourite. it really peps a salad up. That’s true about the trays deterring slugs. That’’s an excellent point. Thanks for sharing and watching.
😊👍 in 🇯🇵🌸
Lol you are on my wavelength.
I need to plant A LOT of salad greens
Spinach is great but where is your KALE? 10:06
By your estimate, the foil trays are well paid for.
I need to learn how to harvest seeds.
I will buy some trays today.
I know. You need to sow loads to make sure it keeps coming. In the past this reality has put me off not realising just how quick it is to sow loads. I forgot the Kale sorry. For seed harvesting just let a few of your favourites go to seed, then when they have dried out in the sun (they look dead) pick the whole head of seeds and shake them into a paper envelope. Glad you found me and thanks for watching. Happy sowing.
What a brilliant vlog. We waste so much in our house. Could you explain your compost mix please?
Hi thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. I use a mix of compost & sharp sand, just regular builders sand from the DIY store. I just mix in enough that there is good drainage. Without sand the water just floods, with sand it drains well. Mostly compost but with a few handfuls of sand just to keep the texture open for drainage. Maybe I should actually measure it. hm.
I've grown the mesclun mix and arugula for years now. I even let some go to seed and it grew between the paver stones, lol
I do like your aluminum roasting pan idea as I have some going to waste in the cupboard. Seed on! 😄
I have it self seeding too. Once it took over a whole border and I had to rip it all out. my kids used to pick the flowers.
@@JillBretherton thanks so much
Where’s the cheapest place to buy your foil trays?😊
I’m in the UK and I get 2 for 62p in Home Bargains. The supermarkets are more expensive so look at the bargain stores. Thanks for watching.
@@JillBretherton oooh I love Home Bargains. I’m on my way ☺️☺️
I buy at the Dollar Store! Trays are great for roasting meats to take to someone else’s home a BBQ or the Beach.
Oh no, I’ve had packs of salad seeds for weeks , I thought it was too cold to plant directly outside & no room indoors with all the others on the go 🙆♀ I waste so much salad & money because it’s just me that eats it most days, to have it on hand will be great especially for days I can’t get out👩🦯im even doing cress because I love it ☺ Can’t believe how much I’m loving growing seeds since watching you with all your tips, tricks, time & money saving ideas are a real treat, needed and sincerely much appreciated 😉💞 This ain’t funny, I need a greenhouse 🙆♀😂🪴❤
