I love the garden planter, in seems best to utilize reclaimed as it makes no sense to place brand new wood outside...lol Plus the rustic appearance is lovely and blends with the beautiful landscape and scenery.
This was ideal to help me recycle some old decking and turn it into something useful, and a homage to my father-in-law who laid the decking in the first place. Now a part of him lives on in a different form. Haven't had this much fun since Secondary School Woodwork in 1983 :-)
Thanks Paul. Great idea. I hope you find some. My parents took up there old decking, so far I’ve made 2 planters and a chicken coop from it. All the best
Nice build Kit, and that is exactly how i build mine with Decking Boards, L shape Legs and Compost Bags to line it, and of course some holes for drainage. I also paint mine with wood preserver/paint, the stuff they use on fences and sheds, it brings a bit of colour to the garden. I forgot to say if i can't re-use some decking boards and i have to buy them, look out for the ones that have a plane side as well as a ribbed side, that way you can mix and match or do one planter planed and the other ribbed. Oops forgot again, i have just subscribed. Barry (Wirral, ENG)
Hi Kit - thanks for uploading this video. I used it to build a quite large (2 metre long) planter for the yard, which looks great. I am glad you suggested using old compost bags for the lining, otherwise I think I would have used bin bags. One thought - if you are going to paint or seal the wood it might make sense to do this bit before assembling everything. That way every part would get covered and it may last longer.
Agree it would be a good idea, I didn’t have the paint straight away, I still haven’t painted it 😂. Thanks for watching and commenting All the best Kit
Wonderful project. I just uprooted my old decking and have plans to turn them into planters. Any chance of actual sizes - would make life much easier. Thanks
Such a fantastic design! I’ve looked online to buy planters and I’ve noticed no one puts legs so those planters are so close to the ground. I’m planning to make them instead like urs but I intend to use them for vegetables. Will this design made with 2.5cm thick boards be strong enough to bare the weight of all the soil?

Thank you, you can make it to your required size. 2-3 planks wide or more then however long you want.
Hi do you have any sizes please.thanks
what ties the second and third tiers is it only the legs once your done?
Hi, yes it’s held together with the legs.
Hi Kit, thanks for the video - just wanted yo know how you attached the lining?
Hi Claire, thank you for watching and commenting. I just used a staple-gun & some old compost bags inside.
I like the design and rustic look with decking boards. Is there an advantage in spraying them (Cuprinol + sealant) before rather than after assembley?
Thanks, I didn’t end up treated it at all in the end but yes it would make sense to treat before assembling to make sure you get everything coated.
Looks great thanks for uploading I'm going to make it soon do you have the measurements for the pieces 😁
Hi thank you. You can make it to whatever size you like.

Hi, that’s great that your making them, yes they should be fine, this ones still going strong.
Good luck with your planters.
Thanks for watching
great video any chance you could give us the measurements of each piece of wood
Hi thank you, I didn’t use measurements, you can make it to whatever size you like.
Good job Kit. Where did you manage to get ho,d of those decking boards as they were very good quality wood? Take care. Nick
Thanks Nick, my parents took up there old decking so I claimed it lol.

Hi. Just what I was looking for and love the fact that it’s all Recycled. Roughly how long did it take to make?
Hi Charlotte, thank you. It took about 3hrs to make.

Kit
But, where is the drainage?
I drilled some holes later, although I’m sure there would have been plenty of drainage from the gaps in the wood.
👍
Great job kit
Did one today with pallet wood
