    I play a lot of blues, but that Cruiser Bridge in the neck position sounds so good, I'm considering swapping out a '57 classic in one of my Strats for one, and may look around to see if I can locate a MM custom middle position, as well, as they sound great in your review above... being a strat, I need a single coil profile pickup in the bridge position though... would you have any recommendations as to what pickup you might put in the bridge position of a strat with this combination...?

    Hey, I trying to find strat pickups which have a reasonably similar single coil sound to stock fender Alnico V pickups, but also perform well while distorted. I was looking at the Dimarzio cruiser and the Fast Track 1, though I'm not sure whether the Cruiser will be able to handle high gain stuff, like some Van Halen or Metallica. Will it? Thanks.

    What's the name of this music man silouette with this pickup ??

  • @fretpoint
    @fretpoint  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The middle pickup is a custom wound Dimarzio that comes with the Musicman. With regards to putting a neck cruiser in the neck position, Andy Timmons puts a bridge cruiser in this position as it gives him more clarity and top end. I think if you went with a neck pickup it would give you a more mellow sound basically.
    I'm sure it would sound great it's just down to personal taste and your style of playing I guess. If your more of a blues player a neck cruiser might be the way forward.

    Hello! Nice review thank u so much! I have a question, do you have 0.10 strings in the video? What gauge do you use? I have 0.11 and I don't want to sound to much fat with the AT1 pickup. I saw the EQ in the Dimarzio web and it says that this pickup has Bass 9.0 and Low Mid 8.0, do you think that could be a problem with 011-049 strings? Hugs

  • @SDesWriter
    @SDesWriter 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    What a great demo! I was on the fence about what pickup to buy, but not anymore.
    One question, that's going to be a brighter guitar. If I have something a bit heavier and darker, is there any downside to the pickup configuration you're using? My guitar is a Hamer Californian with a humbucker in the bridge and a single coil in the neck.

    Hey mate, like everyone else, fantastic review and really informative. Better than 99% of reviews out there by a country mile. Could I ask how come you didn't replace the mid as well? If I went with a mid/neck set, would it still give me the 'nice, thick tone' you talk about in the review, without hum? I'm really aiming for a notchy traditional inbetween sound without the hum. Thanks in advance.

    May I Ask Which Potentiometers Are You Using In Conjunction With Those Pickups, Is It A 250k Pots Or 500k Pots?...I Already Bought The Pickups & I'm Going To Install Them On A Regular Strat But The Problem Is I Want To Know Which Potentiometers Won't Compromise The Pickups Too Much Whether In Bleeding Treble Or Making The Bridge Pickups More Muffled With Low-End.

    Mmm, great review and really nice tone, i'm thinking on swaping my pacifica's pickups for something like this, but what would you guys get for the mid pickup in this setup, considering i can't get the custom one? I'm looking for a deep sound with a nice clean tone, I'd reserve the neck and bridge for the punch...

      Pau Barba Paul Gilbert uses an Area 67 in the middle position in his signature set - have those in one of my axes. It's probably the brightest yet sweetest SC diMarzio make and it blends nicely with other pickups. Going bright is a sure way of using the middle pickup more, on its own or with the bridge or neck pickups. I even omitted the tone control for it per Eric Johnson's preference and probably others before him.

  • @SuperHotrod4
    @SuperHotrod4 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Serious question, I love the tone, great demo, do you think all this gear talk on youtube is just bla bla bla? I find that I can get any tone I want out of a stock Mexican Fender Squire! In the studio or at home. I can make any guitar sound like any top quality gear. It's confusing to me why I can make a cheap stock guitar have amazing tone, but still I buy a quality piece of equipment. I would love to hear your thoughts

    • @MartialArtistGuy1981
      @MartialArtistGuy1981 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually no that is incorrect. Andy uses the Cruiser bridge model pickups for both neck and middle and the AT-1 in the bridge. He has a WV-6sb tremolo for his bridge and Gotoh tuners on the AT-10p. The AT100CL has a Gotoh 510 bridge if not mistaken. I am still searching which brand of pots he uses and which caps and his wiring config. His guitar body is alder btw and his neck is a nitrocellulose coated rock maple neck. He also has dual titanium rods in the neck of his guitar and he plays on .10's downtuned 1/2 step. I am thinking he uses Ernie Ball strings as well. I am pretty sure Andy uses 500k pots for his tone pots also but not sure about his volume. Many players like 250k for volume swells.

    • @JgHaverty
      @JgHaverty 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not good haha. Its not intended for that, and it doesn't do a "single coil quack" type thing very well. It gets really harsh, and thin sounding. Played a modded AT10P with a coil split humbucker.
      The "2" position of the switch isn't accurate, because the mid humbucker adds a lot of midrange to the sound, picking it up and making it sound better.

    I’m about to yank a cruiser neck out of my strat. Although it does what it proposes on paper, so to speak, It’s completely lifeless and compresses low frequencies so much that it pains me to play the low two strings on clean settings. It might as well have a poorly designed, built-in multiband compressor. bc it basically is. imo you can’t please everyone, so you shouldn’t try. Want a single coil? get a proper one. Want a humbucker? Get a proper one. Cruiser replaced an Amalfitano just to see...🤷🏻‍♂️🎸no no no
