    thanks for the video.
    to compare the 2 they would really need to be in the same position.

    Good work and thank you! Thanks to this video I decided to change my order...
    I was going for 2x186 & 1x 187 but based on this video DP186/DP187/DP188 is my new setup for my strat.
    The way it was designed isn't allways what gives you what you are looking for.

    That’s the strattiest I’ve ever heard a 24 fret guitar sound! Great tones

      Yes. Very strat sound but it still lacks some bass. Maybe with 23 frets we get a strat tone.

    Great sounding guitar! What pots are you using? I would think the Tone Zone would need 500k while the Cruiser neck would call for 250k.

    This isn't really a proper comparison. The pickups need to be in the same position. The neck and middle positions have hugely different sounds to each other.

      Anthony cook I did my best with what I had at the time, I don't own 2 guitars to do this test "properly" but hopefully people learn something from this

    some people gave you crap for it but i am really glad you demo-ed these the way you did. from what i understand it's more common to put the cruiser neck in the middle, but the sound of your demo has convinced me i'd rather buy the bridge pickup and put it there. who knows where my tone may have ended up if i hadn't stumbled upon this video!
    i also appreciated the formatting of the demo - gave us a nice and varied sampling of sounds. keep up the good work. thanks a lot.

    Beautiful pickups and playing. I'd probably put the 186 in the middle and the 187 in the neck, but that's me. Was hoping to hear them combined.

  • @angryroostercreations5194
    @angryroostercreations5194 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    that bridge pickup is awesome, but the main difference is probably the position of the pickups. to me the Middle pickup is the most under rated/ underused pickup position on a guitar.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure? I was told that there really isn't thaaat much difference between the Neck & Middle Position

    • @angryroostercreations5194
      @angryroostercreations5194 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just like when you pick closer to the bridge you here more treble the same thing happens with pickup placement. My strat has silver lace sensors in the neck and middle position. The same pickup sounds different in the two positions, and most of the time i use my middle pickup. It's brighter than the neck pickup, but not as ear piercing as the bridge pickup can be. Or at least that's been my experience. Now the set your using has a hotter pickup in the middle position, which probably accentuates the difference.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Extra Crispy interesting - thanks for enlightening me on this! I still can't imagine a great difference between neck and middle but I can certainly imagine the difference between middle and bridge. I guess it's something I might have to try sometime!

    Awesome sounds. Are you using CAGED for your visualization methods in this video or more interval-based visualization? I love this type of melodic soloing (think Marco Sfogli) but never quite know which approach to use to achieve this sound.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! CAGED IS interval-based visualisation. It’s a shame that many players think of them as 2 different approaches when they really don’t have to be. I use CAGED daily to help me visualise intervals all over the fretboard 🙂

    I've had a PROBLEM for a few months.
    My old Strat has been equipped with Joe Barden Strat type humbuckers (double rail pickups) since 1992. Two years ago the Bridge pickup died, I finally replaced it with a JBE Joe Barden bridge pickup (which is now what Joe Barden was before being sold), and that Bridge pickup died 3 months after being installed ... that pickup sounds great but it's built LIKE TOTAL S**T (outer coil wires directly exposed, etc ...).
    Well, I look for a BRIDGE PICKUP that would "compete" with a JBE Joe Barden Bridge pickup (a lot of bark, and great punch in the high mids, and lots of treble ... very trebley actually), but MADE TO LAST.
    Do you think the DiMarzio Cruiser Bridge would do the job as a replacement of a JBE Joe Barden Bridge pickup ??? (if you have ever heard of JBE Joe Barden pickups, of course ...)

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with the pickups you mention but I'm sorry to hear you've had some shitty experience with them! I don't want to misguide you by any means, but from the way you describe your request I believe the Cruiser Bridge is a good match - only, I wouldn't say its "VERY trebley". Have you checked out the DiMarzio website to see their interpretations on the pickups? They have good explanations and graphs to show the EQ the pickups produce :)

      Just chuck it in there 😋 Drill some new holes, use some glue, whatever seems like a good idea 🤪

    Hi, how do they balance the output of the cruisers with the Tone Zone? At least on paper they seem weak to go with something like the Tone Zone. Im seriously considering this same configuration for my HSS strat based on your videos. I appreciate any clarification on this.

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Unfortunately I'm not the person to ask, since I just play the gear. Although I had a similar concern when I first bought the Cruisers, but I tried it and it's all good :)

    • @jeshely
      @jeshely 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darryl Syms thank you for your quick response! So does that mean you think the volume drop is manageable? Is it just a matter of proper pickup height between the Cruisers and the Tone Zone?

    • @DarrylSyms
      @DarrylSyms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's definitely manageable else I wouldn't have kept them 🙂 It's really not even that noticeable. But I like the difference between a full force rock tone zone sound, and then a softer neck/middle combo for other styles or lead parts. They go really nicely together. I've not done anything fancy with Pickup heights or anything

    • @jeshely
      @jeshely 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Darryl Syms Great! That is reassuring. I am strongly leaning for that configuration. Great videos by the way.
