I have been subscribed for 3 years now, and have just about all the content. I understand that the price may be a little difficult to justify, but it helps to know what goes into making the content.
I will go through the process of building an iRacing track. First, the team goes to the owners of the circuit and request approval to laser scan the track. If and only if they are approved, they send a team over to the track, and all the roads and surrounding scenery are scanned over the course of a few days (along with taking many hundreds of pictures). This results in a millimetre perfect rendition of the circuit, provided the track hasn't been changed since they were last there. Once that data is returned, they assemble the pieces of track scan and give it a full 3D model, textures and timing. Due to the small team, *tracks can take upwards of a year to create*. Almost all of this applies to cars as well, along with data from the teams.
With the Safety rating, that's what you get for having a no-fault system. Your gain or loss of Safety Rating is total number of clean corners divided by incidents, so in a full race, running off once or twice is not a big deal. Also, *nearly* all incidents are avoidable, so losing SR due to someone spinning in front of you is not a good excuse. Also, race splits are judged by iRating (your pure skill points, gained for finishing in the top half of the race).
Its a well know rule of thumb, put the letter "i" in front of any product and it instantly increases in value 3 fold.
Good way to save money is buy your cars first. You have cars to race your way into C class on both oval and road. Pick a car that you like and pick up the tracks you like that are on the schedule. A lot of tracks aren't in the rotation and a lot of cars aren't too popular (like the Radical for example). If you're patient and see what has a high participation rate you'll save yourself the headache.
tbh the price for me is worth it i mean ill spend 6 hours alone just practicing to get myself to a pace that im happy with so for me its really a pound a hour its not to bad for me for how long i do play iracing and you have to keep in mind Alex you don't have to buy all the content only what you will use ,but i have be a part of iracing for a year now and i love it. it is the best sim/game i have ever played. not to be OCD but just to correct you Alex to buy all the content its more like $800-1000 if my memory serves me correctly but hey if anyone is look for some fantastic racing then i have to recommend iracing above all sims and games.
if anyone want to ask any questions about iracing before taking the leap into it i am open to any question anyone has but do have in mind im not a complete expert on iracing but i can answer most questions

This all sounds about right. You spend a lot for a simulation, not a game. In that situation, then yes, I think it's good!
By the way, I've tried iRacing once because Kia had it at a local Auto Show. It was the Optima touring Car on Lime Rock. It was actually quite fun, even if I didn't do so well (it took me some time to understand how to deal with the low-speed understeer/oversteer--as well as discovering that it was because the car was still FWD).

I think the reason the cars and/or tracks are so expensive is because of the amount of money iRacing spends modeling them. They try extremely hard to make each car handle as closely to it's real life counterpart as possible, and I'm sure the tracks are very, very realistic as well. Probably what you'll find is that cars or tracks that are cheaper than normal are probably either in high demand or are just a lesser quality simulation. That said, the prices for these things are still really high, but I'd imagine that's part of what keeps the community so serious, and as you can see, it has resulted amazingly close racing being commonplace and every simulation being held to as high a standard as possible with our current technology. Very cool stuff, I wish I could afford to play a game like this.
The pricing is an issue but there are a few things to ease the pain, like bulk buying (20% off everything) and series completion ($10 a series)
Once you get to class D i'd recommend the skip barber if you like open wheel racing it has the closest and most fun racing too :)

I have a game. It's called radio controlled racing, I love it and the racing can get close. I've even been in a ten car battle, AKA the entire field.
Shane Van Gisburgen and Scott McLaughlin both real life v8 drivers are on iracing still :)
If i aint mistaken (i dont play the game, hence why i aint sure), but i have heard that if you do an entire season (on a series), the price drops to like 4 dollars a month or soo, but someone who plays it can confirm it,plus the fact that you dont need all of the tracks nor all of the cars really helps bringing the cost down

iRacing is without a doubt not for everyone, honestly its more of a hobby than just a game and as far a hobbies go its pretty cheap. Ive spent thousands golfing and a few thousand on RC cars and maybe $500 on iracing (not including my wheel because iRacing didnt make me buy a thousand dollar wheel lmao). Alot of people will judge a game based specifically on content or how much your paying for content and that's just not how i look at things. I raced a lot of the old forza games and it was ok but most of the time you have 2 people in the lobby who can drive and the rest are either trying to kill you or just bad, on iRacing ive been in full 42 car fields where everyone was respectful and could actually drive the car and thats why i will pay for it. its second to none in terms of public server races (i.e. not league races).
And again i know its not for everyone but i will say if you do give it a try don't just think about the cost think about the cood close racing and let the other stuff work its self out. And if you just say that im some rich kid who spends a lot on anything ive nver bought one bit of DLC from any forza game because i dont see it adding any kind of fun to the game but i own about 60% of the content on iRacing, and its not like a buy it all at once thing its been a slow build over the past 4 years you dont need it all at once. but anyway have fun with whatever you do and dont flam on something just because you dont like it...cheers

also the cautions (incident points) are absolutely no fault so if two cars come together both will get the 4x. its the only way to make it fair or else people would argue who was at fault and it would just be a big mess. the incident points are something rookies always complain about but once you get more used to it its easy. i have an a license and i dont even have to think about it when im racing and when i get them it doesnt even really matter and they affect my safety rating 5x more than a rookies just saying
I'm not saying I have enough money for this, I don't even have a PC, but a guy Empty Box described sim racing as a hobby. Not a casual game. So in that case, it's a justified price. It's to him like quad rotor drones.

Since you have now played both Project CARS and iRacing I'd like to know how the physics compare, Alex. (I still can't be arsed to download all the iRacing data to have a go myself).

iRacing isn't the greatest on physics, there not as good as some of the gmotor stuff, but I will say that it's still probably the best sim in terms of what you get with it.

There is a Daytona 24 Hour sim race tonight for iRacing. Check it out on the RaceSpot HD channel. It wasn't until recently where they've had driver swaps and 24 hour racing.
There are plenty of iRacing channels out there that live stream their races.
You are a fantastic racer if this was actually you driving in the video! This is one of the most professional pieces of racing I've ever seen in such a low ranked race!

You forget to say that the tracks and cars are laser scaned and laser scaning tracks takes alot of money to do. Thats why its so expensive. If you take Forza it doesent have laser scanned stuff att all. And the safety racing is so that people learn to drive safe. It doesent care if you get hit or if you hit someone. You will always get 4x. This is great beacuse you dont get the stupid forza online drivers that fucks you over all the time. And you learn to avoid accidents yourself. And if you drive clean you will get promoted :) I went over from Forza to iracing and its amazing. Im a A-class driver btw

Michael Davis Well Failrace has bought Forza 4 and 5 with the season passes, that's over $150, he will buy Forza 6 as well so that's another load of money spent, iRacing is a continuously developing title, its been that way from 2008 and will do so until it goes bankrupt, it's not that bad but its a big price to pay upfront

I thing what happened in the first corner at the start of the race is the second place mx5 turned into the third place mx5, then they had wheel to wheel contact, as a result the car was rolled over

Well you Can get good clean races ot of forza. Yes you will need to be lucky with the other drivers yes you will need to hace good connection. But you can get decent races out of forza. Like the vsTC races 9 times out of 10 they are close and fairly intresting both to watch and to compete in.

I have a free game on my tablet with better grapics, more cars and more tracks and 2840 challenges so I racing is expencive i guess (that tablet game is called Real Racing 3 (this is no add))
Better graphics doesn't mean poop, and the handling model is terrible.
Also, a good sim I know that's free is Simraceway. Originally an rFactor mod, it's now a free standalone with paid cars, you can get for free by just driving.
Driving gets credits which you can use to get cars.
Or just Pay a bit of cash.

I disagree with some of the points on safety rating in this video. Almost every time that I have been in an accident in this game I know that in some way or another I could have avoided it, even if it wasnt my fault. The system is designed to prevent poor drivers/casual drivers from making it into the faster cars and destroying other peoples races with erratic driving, and if anything it is far too forgiving a system currently (the penalties should be higher). It gives an incentive not to crash into other people and practice before racing. There is no other game that has this type of clean racing because of this system outside of organized leagues.
With regards to the pricing, yeah it can be fairly steep for a lot of people (especially considering you have to also own a wheel for the game). However, if you only buy the cars and tracks you want to race on, and buy in bulk to get the discounts, it isnt necessarily over the top. It takes a lot of time and commitment to become fast at any one car, this isnt the type of game where you will want to change cars every race, so theres no real need to buy any more than one car at a time, and run it for a full 12 week season to get better at it.
It's closer to $1,000 for everything lol but don't get me wrong I love iRacing.

Honestly in my opinion and the 2 years of experience I have on iracing I'd say that the best races are typically the hosted ones since you don't have to worry about incident points and that's normally where a lot of the best racers are.

I've heard rFactor 2 has better psychics and is definitely cheaper and I've also seen some go for Live For Speed. Downloading rF2 demo as we speak though.

Now, if iRacing wants to fix their safety rating system, not every race can be marshaled by official marshals, but every player can have the chance to spectate a race, see incidences and determine whether or not that was cause for demerit or the marshal can pass the demerit and nothing negative would happen just from putting two tires slightly off the road.
Now you would think, _I want to race damn it, why do I want to watch a race when i can be in it?!_, but for enhancing their safety rating system with helping the game provide a little bit of leniency to its racing, you get store credit. Basically, the game will let you pay less for items in the game if you provide assistance by monitoring events and ensuring the game fairly demerits racers who are simply trying to go for a slightly faster time, or had a little bump that causes very little issues aside from some paint being traded.
It happens all the time in NASCAR, and said paint-swapping normally doesn't cause such fuss, because we're talking about cars going two-hundred imperial miles per hour. Of coourse, there's going to be the occasional bump-n-grind, that's the nature of driving really fast and having slightly-worn tires on all the cars.
Iracing needs to have a monthly payment, the same starting cars/tracks, but you either have the option to buy new cars and tracks at your leisure or you can work your way up with good driving without having to heap money into it.

if you can't use a controller with it you for sure can't use k+ms >.> thats just common sense.
The game may allow you to use the keyboard and the mouse. However you will be a danger to everybody when you do that. The handling system is so in-depth that you really need a wheel to control your car, when you use a keyboard you will be disqualified from every race because you will have too many offs.
