@@SladesVWBeetle The thermostat and flap system refurbish and install will also be interesting. I just did some not too long ago. They rust and their little rubber bumpers (the same part as the two rear apron little rubber snubbers) break.
Excellent video! Funny (?) story: I rebuilt the carb on my '69 Beetle (pre-Internet) and I was very proud of myself. But, the car drove very poorly, and I thought for sure I had broken something. After a lot of hand-wringing, I noticed the vacuum advance hose was not connected to the carb (frankly, I did not know what the vacuum advance was or what it did). So, I plugged it in and PRESTO! the car ran like a champ. Sigh.... another **&%@ learning experience!! :)
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Don’t feel bad, we learn as we go along. I will never know everything, but when I do screw up, I definitely will show it. It’s always part of the journey.
Yes, please do a tin painting video. I know there's a lot of debate out there on oil but most of us here respect your opinion on which brands are best and we'd like to know your opinion. Don't be shy, say it's your opinion and why, we'll respect that.
Thank you so much for the kind words, my friend! There will be probably a three part series for the cooling tin, which will also cover the thermostat. I’m probably going to organize a oil video. Coming up very soon. I think it’s important.
One other thing to think about. I had a vacuum distributor that had the drive that sits in the drive gear installed backward. So it might not be the gear in the case. It could be the new distributor you have needs that part on the bottom flipped 180°
A great video as always. One thing I would like to add is I had a problem with the exterior of my cap. Where the clips engaged the cap there was a slight deterioration. I don't know why but when the car got warm it would start to miss. This drove me crazy, because I couldn't find the problem. So also check the outside of the cap. It was a relatively new cap
Oh yes, absolutely! That’s why I brought up checking for cracks on the outside. I know a lot of people ignore this stuff, or sometimes we just don’t literally realize what’s going wrong. I still think the quality was much better years ago with some of the parts.
Thank you very much much, Anthony, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. That is a good idea. I will also include the capacities and brands.
Wow, I got some great tips on that video brother Slade. I sure would like to see a video talking about the different kind of oils to use in our bugs. I was happy to see one of my Hometown neighbors Also in that edition, Blake Parson with Paisley prize isn’t that a beautiful car.
When I bought my 72 super beetle the vacuum lines were connected all wrong? I don’t know how they got it to run! The main reason I got such a good deal is someone had all the wires backwards on the fuse block (if you can read the schematic right side up, then it’s upside down!!!!) also the curved connector on the steering column was on offset by one pin! So look out for that! Thanks for the great video full of info, as usual!
Oh wow!!! I have actually worked on some folks cars before, where I was simply amazed how screwed up everything was. So I know exactly where you’re coming from.
