    987s are relatively easy to work on.
    The problem with a "performance" engine air filter is you need to keep it oiled or it will allow dirt into the engine. They are just an open gauze material that depends on the oil for catching dirt. But if you over oil them they'll foul your MAF with the oil. Basically it's a fine line with these filters in having them operating properly. Yeah, you might be able to scrimp on a few bucks but how about the $$$ spent on the damage it causes? To each their own.
    Enjoy your channel.

    The crap flying out of your AC ducts is the foam lining. It is a common problem with the 987. The foam gets old and comes apart.

    Sorry to burst your bubble but changing the air filters and spark plugs does not lead to higher hp gains. The gains are negligible - have you done a dyno test for the before/after hp? If not, it must be the butt dyno. I've spent tonnes of money changing the headers/exhaust along with plenum upgrades for my 987.2 and it gave me about 40hp increase. Nevertheless clean ride.

    Overall great video. A lot have others have taken that shield out of the side vent. I would recommend putting a screen on it to prevent leaves and other large debris from being sucked into the filter.

    Great video Nathan. I recently replaced my frunk (froot here in the U.K.) dampers; what a difference! You’ll find that once you release the safety catch, the lid springs up out of the way. No more embarrassing falling on your head!

    I performed the same removal of the impact plate behind the air intake just as you did and epoxied a 2mm weave fiberglass screen to the back of the support structure for the grillwork. This will keep sand and other debris out and allow all the air the engine wants in. The stock airbox design will flow enough air to support modifications to a 420 HP level, other parts need replacement to get there though.

    @warrenlucier5796 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The K&N also has a clamp that is a real bastard to install for sealing it to the airbox. The BMC appears to go in place a lot easier, as is doesn't have to stretch around the oval orifice in the airbox. I advise others to use the BMC as you did.

    For most true sport vehicles the oem spark plugs are copper and that is due because it's one of the best electricity conductivity. The only con is that they need to be replace more often compare to iridium spark plugs.

    Nice work. Agree about adding a screen to the intake. Thought that you might add some anti seize to the spark plugs guess they come out often enough.

    Personally I hate those free-flowing filters. I would rather keep my engine clean and sacrifice the better sound and very slight performance gain. Nobody ever oils them up like you are supposed to and if any of that oil gets onto the air flow sensor it will ruin it.

    • @334trax2
      @334trax2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That or they don't oil them correctly. I use to work on a helicopter that used filters we clean and oil. I remember a set got over oiled and was an issue. That made me think if someone doesn't oil them.or dry them correctly the performance could be worse than OEM filter.

    Soo you PAID for a BMC air filter and NGK Spark plugs. Removed part of the air intake. The part that stops your intake sucking in a load of crap. Then claim that this increased power for free because it sounded a bit louder with no before and after Dyno?? Hmm 🤔

    I bought 2005 porsche boxster in 2016 with 95k miles for 12k and had did IMS,new cluth and flywheel done by Shop. I did my self air filter, water pump ,low temperature thermostat and Trans services and it was manual 5 speed. Sold after year for $13500 with 98k miles. Bought 2005 911 c2 with 47k miles for $33k. Done ims and cluth from same shop. Month after I bought car it had bad misfire and founds out that all coils were cracked. I did all 6 coils (beru updated coils) all plugs(Bosch) from pelican parts. Later year i did water pump,low temp thermostat and Trans service,lowering springs,short throw shifter, headers and catless X pipe.

    This video was just "maintenance" not "upgrades", at best you just get some lone lost horse back.
    Air filter isn't a hp upgrade.. it's just a placebo effect.
    The desnorkel just gives it a slightly better intake sound
    And btw, that engine is filthy... How can you work in such a dirty workplace? ?!
    Clean your engine before you open up the air filter housing, so you don't get dust in the intake when the filter isn't on.

    I got the stock Bosch FGR5KQE0 spark plugs that are apparently pregapped to 0.064” (purchased from FCP Euro and states they are good to go with 987.1). I’m not sure I should install these or get another set elsewhere bc I keep reading the proper gap is 0.032” which is exactly half that. I realize 0.032” is quite thin but I’d rather not risk piston / spark plug contact. Any thoughts?

    Take out the snorkel.The plate is intended for keeping the air filter dry. This must remain in place!
    The snorkel is the limiter!

    • @836dmar
      @836dmar 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it’s been dyno tested several times on both the 986 and 987 that removing the snorkel may increase noise and the perception of performance but there is no gain in power. Our senses can be fickle things. Others have tested flow and say the entire stock intake system can flow much more than even needed.

    BMC filter = more noise ??? Cool - harder to initially insert than withdraw - life's a bit like that sometimes !!! Weener pump : LOL ! Neck tat LOL - you know you're in for a wild ride ! It would be interesting to see the before and after dyno figures to see how much more power was in fact made with the new filter - but taking away the interior baffle exposes the rather ugly internals - perhaps drilling some additional discrete holes would improve the airflow whilst not exposing the internals that much...... I had to watch the last 20 seconds 3 times - you camouflaged your doors so well ! Very amusing !

      Porsche has an advisory out for all models that advises against using anti-seize, as it interferes with the proper grounding. I like to think Mercedes say the same but not 100% sure on that one.
