    I’ll add a few more of your suggestions in this pinned comment.
    1. If the windows are down, use the key and hold the lock button, all windows will do up.
    2.

      Does this not also work in the opposite way, when the windows are shut, hold the key fob button and they will all open on approach allowing the car to ventilate on a hot day!?

    A word of warning when removing the headlight to change the light angle when going abroad is to make sure that the unit is properly locked in. There should be an audile click on its return. If you do not hear this then the whole unit can fly out when braking as a friend of mine found out to his considerable financial cost.

    • @randyland1000
      @randyland1000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also be very careful when taking the unit out I managed to do alot of damage to mone.

    Here is a tidbit that I don't believe was mentioned. As some may or may not know, the fuel filling door is locked anytime the car is locked. Here is the tidbit; if for some reason the fuel door fails to unlock automatically when you unlock the car, there is a hidden manual release ring/cable that can be pulled to allow you to open the fuel fill door. The ring/cable can be found by opening the passenger door (or whatever car door is on same side as fuel filler), possibly grabbing a flashlight, and looking into the cavity above the upper door hinge that leads towards the front fender (sorry that is the best I can describe it...lol!) You should see a little pull ring. It is resting in a little plastic hutch, so if you pull it you will just have to reseat it back into the notch so it doesn't flop around. It is described in the manual (page 195 of mine). Kinda of a neat little trivia item:)

    You forgot the secret pull tab under the fender, remove wheel to get to it, that will manually open the frunk to access the battery.
    Also hold the Spoiler button for ten seconds to leave spoiler up instead of pulling the fuse.

    Two potential hidden features
    1. After you unlock the door with your key fob, without inserting the key into the ignition, you can still operate the power windows.
    - works best for summer heat when you're not ready to get in but want the car interior cooled off.
    2. This just happened to me, but I think the dashboard will alert you if the battery is low.
    - the past week, I've been seeing the clock reset and the Miles Remaining indicator show a "- - - -" the once a week I get into the car
    - well, this Sunday, the battery died after I Ieft the radio on for about 30 mins while drying the car
    - I wonder if those were warning signs that the battery were low

I don't know about any other hidden features, except for the not-really-hidden-but-nobody-uses storage compartments behind each seat that you kind of forget about over time.

    when putting the side mirrors back out, push the ENTIRE shell in a tad and slowly release back to its upright position. putting your finger in to click the tab to release may cause it to snap back to hard/fast and pinch your finger off.

    There's a manual release cable for the Cayman's rear hatch behind the driver's side wheel. You can reach up underneath the rear bumper and find it. Not sure if it's the same for RHD Caymans, but worth a look. Great info in this vid, I've had mine 4 years and didn't know some of this!

    Another brilliant video Satch. Very useful as most Cayman owners learn these features very slowly, in some cases after a few years of ownership. Thanks so much as always. Most Porsche owners love their cars and keep them for many years. But what will the future hold with EV's getting more and more popular. The road tax on a standard 2.7 Cayman 2007 is €1,350 and owning these fantastic cars might get more difficult. I'm sure it's the same in the UK.

    • @alsatch_

    The toe hook plate can be removed on front bumper, for an after market licence plate holder / bracket installation, that bolts onto the toe hook. So that you don't have to have put holes in the middle of the front bumper for a traditional license plate frame holder. Porsche also has a trickle charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter slot for storage of a few weeks or longer.

    I just purchased an '07 and it has been fun to discover all these things. Did not know about the tool kit or the headlight thing. Thanks!
    A suggestion: the audio is quite primitive by today's standards but for mine (PCM 2.1 I think) I got in a time machine and went back and burned some mp3 CDs. The car is quite particular about the details of the files (NO image/artwork embedded, for example) but it still works well all these years later.

    Currently I don't own a Porsche but I am looking to purchase a 986 in the near future. I am going to.purchase the icarsoft prior to ownership as I want to be armed with a fault reader to see if there are problems that aren't evident by just visual or a test drive alone. I figured it could save me a fair bit of cash. Theoretically the icarsoft to would then more than pay for itself. Who says just because you own the diagnostic tool you have to have a Porsche?

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tool can serve as a great tool when buying a Porsche Neil. It will give you an idea of anything lurking behind the scenes. Here’s a tip though, take the car for a long test drive, then scan it for codes. If the dealer/seller has cleared any codes before you turn up, then wouldn’t show up straight away, but they should show up after a long drive, or a few cycles of the diagnostic system running its checks. 👍

    Interesting. Didn't know about sleep mode. With my first 'shared' Caymen, which was garaged, my fellow owner and I often though the key was having intermittent problems! Just bought a 2011 Gen 2. The previous owner of 6 years obviously was unaware of the concealed tool area as he said there was no compressor. I found it, although I didn't know that the other packet was the 'gunk'. Cheers. Very helpful.

    If the windows are down use the key hold on locking and windows go up 👌 no key fob / buttons just keep the key turned in the lock

      Funny how many VW Audi group owners don’t know that.
      Plus my 987.2 leaves the spoiler up all the time if it’s up then turned off

      @@chrisward7582 on the 987.1 if the spoiler is up when the engine is turned off, the spoiler retracts when the engine is started again. Small changes between the two cars and there are probably a lot more. 👍

      @@alsatch_ - I see. My light turns off when I restart but the thing is still up. Need to have a play about with it because I like it partially extended. Not too sure if breaking the speed barrier, not that I ever do that 😂, extends it fully again? The spoiler is ace tho, as you say 👍

    Do you know if one of the nine volt batteries to cigarette plug bits that are designed to keep various electrical setting undisturbed when changing out your battery would provide sufficient voltage to open the front bonnet if the battery dies, rather than using a larger power source hooked up as you demonstrated here? Sure would be nice if that was the case!
