    I’ll add a few more of your suggestions in this pinned comment.
    1. If the windows are down, use the key and hold the lock button, all windows will do up.

    A word of warning when removing the headlight to change the light angle when going abroad is to make sure that the unit is properly locked in. There should be an audile click on its return. If you do not hear this then the whole unit can fly out when braking as a friend of mine found out to his considerable financial cost.

    Why in hell would you loose trunk opening while pulling the fuse, you can just press spoiler button for ten seconds to lock it in highest position 😂

  • @freakerss
    @freakerss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    An extension to #4 is if you open one of the trunks using the remote, both doors will unlock as well, but if you don't actually open a door they will relock again in 60 seconds.

    The toe hook plate can be removed on front bumper, for an after market licence plate holder / bracket installation, that bolts onto the toe hook. So that you don't have to have put holes in the middle of the front bumper for a traditional license plate frame holder. Porsche also has a trickle charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter slot for storage of a few weeks or longer.

    Here's one weird one at least for the '07 Cayman S. 2 CD holders in the glove compartment (it's not a CD changer, just holds them patiently while you forget about them for ever...that is until you need a pen which is located in the pen holder, also in the glove compartment). Why do I want to store two cd's? I dont know, but I can.
    Also surprised that the most over engineered cup holders were not talked about. They're straight up hilariously slick.

    Here is a tidbit that I don't believe was mentioned. As some may or may not know, the fuel filling door is locked anytime the car is locked. Here is the tidbit; if for some reason the fuel door fails to unlock automatically when you unlock the car, there is a hidden manual release ring/cable that can be pulled to allow you to open the fuel fill door. The ring/cable can be found by opening the passenger door (or whatever car door is on same side as fuel filler), possibly grabbing a flashlight, and looking into the cavity above the upper door hinge that leads towards the front fender (sorry that is the best I can describe it...lol!) You should see a little pull ring. It is resting in a little plastic hutch, so if you pull it you will just have to reseat it back into the notch so it doesn't flop around. It is described in the manual (page 195 of mine). Kinda of a neat little trivia item:)

    Two potential hidden features
    1. After you unlock the door with your key fob, without inserting the key into the ignition, you can still operate the power windows.
    - works best for summer heat when you're not ready to get in but want the car interior cooled off.
    2. This just happened to me, but I think the dashboard will alert you if the battery is low.
    - the past week, I've been seeing the clock reset and the Miles Remaining indicator show a "- - - -" the once a week I get into the car
    - well, this Sunday, the battery died after I Ieft the radio on for about 30 mins while drying the car
    - I wonder if those were warning signs that the battery were low

    Currently I don't own a Porsche but I am looking to purchase a 986 in the near future. I am going to.purchase the icarsoft prior to ownership as I want to be armed with a fault reader to see if there are problems that aren't evident by just visual or a test drive alone. I figured it could save me a fair bit of cash. Theoretically the icarsoft to would then more than pay for itself. Who says just because you own the diagnostic tool you have to have a Porsche?

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tool can serve as a great tool when buying a Porsche Neil. It will give you an idea of anything lurking behind the scenes. Here’s a tip though, take the car for a long test drive, then scan it for codes. If the dealer/seller has cleared any codes before you turn up, then wouldn’t show up straight away, but they should show up after a long drive, or a few cycles of the diagnostic system running its checks. 👍

    There's a manual release cable for the Cayman's rear hatch behind the driver's side wheel. You can reach up underneath the rear bumper and find it. Not sure if it's the same for RHD Caymans, but worth a look. Great info in this vid, I've had mine 4 years and didn't know some of this!

    • @gunnutz2030
      @gunnutz2030 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is only for absolute emergency. It is destructive to the cables plastic route path and is a one-time solution. I assume you're talking about the front trunk unlatched

    I removed the driver side wheel and opened the hood. But I encountered a more terrible problem, my car can't recognize my key! This makes it impossible for me to enter the car. I tried to insert the key into the door lock and turn it left and right, but the car didn't respond. When I pressed the key button, the light on it was on, but the car didn't respond and couldn't open the door! Can anyone help me?

    I traded my 987.2 in about a year ago, so I can't check. But I could have sworn if I wanted the spoiler up, I just raised it using the button in the cabin and it would stay up until I pushed the button again? Always enjoy your videos. Cheers!

    Another brilliant video Satch. Very useful as most Cayman owners learn these features very slowly, in some cases after a few years of ownership. Thanks so much as always. Most Porsche owners love their cars and keep them for many years. But what will the future hold with EV's getting more and more popular. The road tax on a standard 2.7 Cayman 2007 is €1,350 and owning these fantastic cars might get more difficult. I'm sure it's the same in the UK.

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Niall. I pay about £350 for tax here in the UK but prices are just going up and up for them. 1350 euro is a lot, daylight robbery in fact. Such a shame.

    Thanks for the handy tips. Are there any other side effects apart from the rear hatch operation when removing the fuse to keep the rear spoiler up permanently on the 987.2 s ?

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think so. My experience is mainly on the 987.1 so there may be a few small differences between the .1 and .2 thanks for watching.

      Philip, I have a 987.1 with the sport chrono package. When I hit the spoiler button the spoiler goes up and stays up,the whole time. When I turn the car off,the spoiler stays up,when I turn it back on,it's still up. You just have to press the spoiler button again and it will again continue to stay up. Now....if your spoiler is up when you turn the car on and you dont press the spoiler button,during your drive the spoiler will go down eventually. Then it will operate automatically...above 70mph it goes up and stays up until you get below 45mph. No need to access the fuse box. Btw if you want the spoiler down when it's up,you just have to hold the spoiler button for 5 seconds and it will go down. Hope this helped.

    Interesting. Didn't know about sleep mode. With my first 'shared' Caymen, which was garaged, my fellow owner and I often though the key was having intermittent problems! Just bought a 2011 Gen 2. The previous owner of 6 years obviously was unaware of the concealed tool area as he said there was no compressor. I found it, although I didn't know that the other packet was the 'gunk'. Cheers. Very helpful.
