Thanks. I was looking to tone down my old permanent hair color. But I have about 2” of new growth with my less than 25% grey coming in. It’s a little stark my brown ashy root to the orange-red ends. But my hair is long. The shades EQ gives me hope I won’t totally ruin my new hair but can tone down some of the orange. I was looking at trying 06abn brown smoke. Have you ever tried this color to help tone down brunette hair? Thanks.
I just picked up 04nch to try and tone my brassy brown to a more neutral brown! Would you suggest adding another shade to cancel the brass more?

Love this! Thank you! I'm toning my own hair as I'm a brunette. I got really light highlights and I like them, but I feel it isn't blended enough and a few strands are getting pretty orange. I'm going to be mixing the 08gi, 07na, and 08gn. Do you think that mixture might be too dark and might cover the highlights ? Thanks again for the video !!
If they’re orange you need to add blue! Use the 7P 9P to make an 8!
Hi, i naturally have darker ash brown hair, i got a balayage, so my hair is blonde now at the ends and brown at the roots. I have a naturally very cool haircolor. I got a Redken EQ at my hairdresser, she made my hair a Little darker so it better blends & the Color is light grey, do you know With Color of EQ do i need to do it by myself ?

If a person is doing roots with 5NN permanent (20 volume) what eq shade would you use 5N? to match for the rest of the hair? And would you use 10 volume or eq gloss with it as well?

I’d like to do a root smudge, plus tone fresh and old blonde highlights. What order should I do that? Can I tone over the root shadow with a lighter toner for the lengths? Is it damaging to tone the same hair twice in a short period? Also can you talk about blending two toners using a darker one for the roots and lighter one for the ends? I have never used reken before in my life and I just got a job at a new salon and have no idea what I’m doing!!!! Please make more videos like this. I was literally taking notes. Maybe do a video on like what redken line ( chromatics shades ect)you should use on people with gray hair?? I know that would help me!!!

I have a cool brown hair underneath which is my natural and starting to go gray on top with my natural in between. I live in a Canada and its hard to get a salon appointment so I'm thinking of doing my own toner. My blond highlights are growing out but still have a way to go as my hair is long. I was thinking 9V, 9P OR 9NB would this be a good choice for me or can you recommend a color? Thanks
A toner will only shift the color of your blonde! 9V 9P and 9NB will make your blonde ashy!

I am going from a full bleach and hoping to achieve white snow white results with a shades EQ color solution. I do not know them as the numbers but I am looking at what I have is a platinum and I have ivory pearl along with crystal clear gloss. Out of those what would help or get those results achieved? Hi Reiley. Thank you for the Redkin Shades EQ video. I’m going to ask you a question that May be difficult to answer. So..here goes. My hair is naturally white. I look like a light bulb head. I would love to color it more silvery. Does Redkin have a product for my hair and can I purchase it from their website? Thanking you for your research in advance. I’m sure there are other ladies that are reading this comment that are glad I asked this question for themselves. Be safe. That Mother of Pearl has a lovely sound to it. Maybe a good alternative?
I highlighted my hair and came out a little yellow but wanted ashy/platinum blonde So I used sally's 9v with their activator and now I have dark brown hair. Where did I go wrong?
For anyone wondering the hydrogen peroxide content of Shades Eq processing solution is approximately 2% so it’s around a 7 volume but still like she said won’t lift natural hair color 😊

Not true, my hair is a natural level 6 and a 7 volume lifts my dark blonde roots to orange. I am so fed up of people saying it will not lift a natural colour because I know for a fact it does.
A 7 volume might, but I’ve never had the processing solution lift any hair and I use it everyday!
@@ReileyCollier I haven't tried the Redken processing solution on my hair and now you have said that I really want to try it. I'll have to see if I can find a UK hairdresser that would do a test strand on my hair for me. I can say from experience that the Guy Tang demi perm processing solution did lift my hair to orange and that is supposed to be equiv to 6 vol. Also Elliebangs a utube hairdresser uses Redken and I have seen her roots looking like hot roots with a red hue. Thanks for the info though def something for me to try out on a small section as I would so love to be able to use it.

Thank you for this video and answering color questions! My question is; I am wanting to cover my gray which I have been letting grow out for 10 months. (was going to go the all natural route but I don't like it!) It is fine but not baby fine hair. So there is about 5 inches of salt and pepper, with probably 75% white at temples and sides, with 25-50% white on top. The bottom 2/3rds of my hair is old color, which is a med- dark brassy brown. I was hoping to try demi permanent instead of permanent color this time around, permanent (Color Fusion) is what I had been doing before I stopped coloring for 10 months. Here's what I'm hoping will work: to try 5n Shades EQ on my uncolored root portion, and blending that into the old color bottom part with 7nb Shades EQ. Do you think this will work? How long do you think I should process my virgin hair? My gray isn't usually very resistant I think, but I used to process my roots with permanent dye for about 45 minutes.
Oh - and my natural color without the gray is a very dark brown, which used to get reddish highlights in the summer.
Hi! Shades EQ won’t “cover your gray” it’s just going to blend it. I definitely would do it under heat for 35 minutes with a processing cap. Also, i have heard that the NB series is going to blend grays the best. I would just give it a try. I definitely think it will help. But it’s not going to completely cover

So this wouldn’t be great for overall hair dye? I’ve been looking to dye my hair black ofc not using black box dye but professional color. I’ve been steered away from using permanent color by people so Demi permanent seems the way to go but I’m confused on whether this would be suited for all over color?
It would be! It’s a Demi hair color. Shades is just translucent so it will fade!

Depends on the level you want.. but i like 6N 6NB or 8N 8GI.. but like i said it really depends on what the hair has been lifted to.

I love the 9gi or the 8GI for the gold reflect in combination with other formulas I would love to see some of your formulations on some swatches or possibly clients that would be wonderful for beginners new subscriber thank you so much you are so wonderful

If you are looking for a shade lighter than your hair color, you would need to lift it! Unfortunately toners do not lift hair colors.
I have the processing solution, but don’t have the Shades Eq color. Could I sub the processing solution for 10vol developer for black hair? I’d be mixing it with Ions permanent Jet Black color.
No, that will lift the hair.

You mention in the video that you CAN use it with a regular 10 volume developer, but that it will lift if you do that. So if I WANT a slight lift, that would do it? Also, I've heard some people say it's okay to sub out and some say it won't work if you sub out. Curious what your experience is with seeing this.
I’ve never done it. It’s against manufacturers instructions so i use processing solution.

9NB is a warm shade.
9N 9GI. Add a touch of 7N. 7NA are tones for warm roots.

If there’s warmth in your hair (orange) you might need to be lightened again! Kind of hard to tell without seeing it though!
@@ReileyCollier I can't explain it's not really warmth it's I don't know but for the combinations with a 9 b work I may do a test strand it seems nothing is toning it even level eight and I know it's past a nine

I loved your video! I had a question - I purchased 09V, 09T, and 09AA with a 20 vol. developer and was wondering if that would work to tone a level 8-9 without making it too dark? Would I have to use a different volume developer to make sure the toners don't deposit as much?

Shades EQ i always use their processing solution. I don’t suggest using 20 volume to tone. It will lift the natural level of your hair

Hi...nice job explaining... Im a licensed cosmetologist but do not work in salon any longer. I still do my own hair and my daughter's hair and not being in a salon environment every day certainly makes keeping up with trends and products quite the challenge. Additionally, since my license is expired, it makes getting Redken at a legitimate supply house impossible. So here is my question.....I recently toned my daughter's hair with a Sally's brand comparable (allegedly) to Shades and it turned out way darker than what we wanted. It is still a beautiful level 7 with some dimension but truthfully, its not what I was going for. Perhaps if I had mixed some clear gloss with the 9N, it wouldn't have deposited as much color. I believe I used 1 part 9N, 1 part 10N and a 15V developer. Your thoughts? Im considering checking into ordering Redken shades online if you know of a source, also that would be helpful.
Hmm i don’t know where to get it other than Cosmo prof! Maybe try to wash it with dawn dish soap to help strip some of it out!
Sleek shop online carries Shades EQ. It’s pricey. Wish I still had a current license and could buy local!
