I've been watching this game for awhile, and the developer is a really cool guy. Hope this blows up and he gets a lot of funding. We had a failed kickstarter that was really promising.
You know what I've noticed? Splat's video notifications are the most consistent thing in my life. Every night at like 12am-1am kangaroo time I get the notification and know I'm in for a good 30 minutes.
Trying the demo out. I am playing a necromancer lich. I have a small, but ever growing army of undead and they do most of the fighting for me. I am having a blast.
You actually CAN repair items! Find a sharpening stone in town, then in inventory you get the option to repair. There is a chance to break item, and if you do repair you lose 10 durability!
@@heavenseeker2320 Yes and the part that just Jars me is when you move accross the screen, The screen flashes and jitters. I am an epileptic so it gets me kinda dazed and sketched out about playing it. The inventory system and no mouse option really makes it a chore. Sooo, you're the kinda monster you get quests in Witcher to kill! Looks awesome, albeit unreasonably dark. It would make sense if during daytime the player could see further and the colors were lighter.
Fun concept game but you know what I love about like getting mail is when they're like time sensitive material and then you open it up and it's a commercial sneaky mailing
^this. Also, how many cuts does a shirt take to be useless in OP's world? The true reason though is that you are supposed to both craft and loot things to survive and if nothing breaks easily there's less need to.
I agree. Nothing degrades this quickly IRL. Even Dark Souls 1 knew to keep degradation reasonable. This game looks like Dark Souls 2 level shenanigans.
@@picklefathernurgle2719 The equipment isn't rusting away into nothingness. It's presumably chipping, denting, blunting, and cracking. I agree from a gameplay perspective it may be annoying to deal with but it's ridiculous to presume you can use a shitty wheat harvesting scythe to hack up 20 people IRL and somehow it's still got an edge.
Are we going to see a series out of this? I'd love to see more of this game. Not enough youtubers are playing the upgraded version, just lots of 1 off videos.
I've wanted this one for a while. I'm not sure if I want this, or the ASCII that I'm used to. The only thing I don't love is that you can't see much, even in the middle of the day, on familiar territory.
Looks great! One potentially unpopular opinion I have, that FOV system annoys me. A few games have done it, and I would be much happier if it were all just visible. Advance Wars I liked the Fog Of War, but in roguelikes I tend to dislike it.
Honestly, I was really excited hearing about this game, looks very neat. Then you mentioned the durability. That just kills it for me, I can't stand switching from using my magical flame sword to a tree branch when fighting low level enemies, making the combat take twice as long for no reason. Have durability if you want, but include some kind of repair mechanic. Even the other fix of making everything super easy to find/make feels really annoying for no reason.
Ooooh, that’s why when I play I still got ascii graphics. I was wondered if the copy I bought was just not cool enough. I got it when you played it last time.
tbh it is very interesting. However, the way the vision turns is a bit confusion for people with a bit of vision problems, plus the graphic quality/animations could do with an upgrade and i think being able to zoom in is a good idea, it focusing easier.
The picture of you moonwalking away from the merchant of doom while snapping your fingers and setting him on fire, all the while yelling "Hee hee" and "Schamoe" is going to stay with me for a while.
When I look at the media for this game on their official website, it has ascii characters for the sprites instead of a graphic set as in this video. Is this a special version? If I bought this game now would I get the ascii sprites or this tileset?
There are 2 versions of the game at this moment. On itch.io you'll find an alpha - full map with the latest updates, but ASCII only. The second version is on Steam - it's a free demo (limited map and level cap of three) showcasing the graphic mode you see on this video. Game with a full graphic mode should be available around late 2021 / early 2022. Hope this clears things up! If you'd like to support a game now on itch, you'll receive a Steam key after the 1.0 (full graphic) release anyway, so you won't have to buy it twice.
Im interested in the game but the one thing that really turns me off is that triangle line of sight graphics, something about it really annoys me; its really distracting.
Hmm.. The durability system seems needlessly up punishing. Hope there's a way to repair equipment, don't fancy losing a jacked super weapon because I used it too many times
This game is actually very interesting! I hope more people play it cause I wanna watch it and as much as I like it, I certainly cannot play it myself because I suck at games and I get frustrated if I play the game that I really like BADLY
I really dislike games with durability as a "challenge", never understood the whole ordeal behind this sort of reasoning. Made a primitive stone axe some 20 years ago and it has seen it´s share of work, it´s made of of wood and a smooth rock I found by the ocean, I believe these can also be found near/in rivers. I have had to change the handle a few times to make it sturdier, the rock is still the same though.
I remember you played a similar game with a same concept of being a dark god come back to conquer the land, but the gameplay was different, I cant remember the name of it.
Seems like a cool game. The only downside I see now from this video is that it's quite hard to see anything. The vision cone is too short and the colours outside of it way too dark. I discovered I was squinting the whole video, so now my eyes are tired. What a shame.
Wow! A video with roguelike in the title, and would you look at that? It's an actual roguelike! I wasn't entirely convinced with all the recent events, but it seems the world really is ending!
Why does this game's description kinda reminds me of one very old game called Black & White? Huh... But the gameplay is completely different, it's like a weird classical RPG with survival flavor.
Scythes overall are pretty bad, with their thin, fragile and offset blades that curve inward on a handle not meant to raise the weapon above knee level... oh and also the damage value, yeah.
Despite wanting to be a villain you were a hero to the rabbits who will speak evermore of the beastman who killed all the foxes in the area.
I've been watching this game for awhile, and the developer is a really cool guy. Hope this blows up and he gets a lot of funding. We had a failed kickstarter that was really promising.

"12am-1am kangaroo time" - From now on this is how time zones will be defined: "Burger time", "Wodka Time", "Samurai Time"...
Pizza time for me

There aren't a lot of games that let you explore the evil side of the equation. It's always been fun to look at a conflict from the other side.
At 19:58 there is a one piece reference when he’s hovering over the straw hat!
I saw the trailer on steam and saw the vision mechanics thinking "Woah, that's like Unreal World", glad to know it's similar

16:12 "So we're winnie the poohing it out here. Gotcha."

Equipments are too frail, it makes no sense that weapons would be damaged that quickly.
Ever used a sword? I did. Blades get damaged very easily, especially when you hit a bone.

There is nothing "Reasonable" from a realistic perspective about dark souls 1's weapon durability. Bone fucks up blades, this is a known fact.
