BoT is probably my favorite video game in a long time. I love how calm and beautiful it is and encourages me to just relax and explore. I also love that it doesn't consume my soul like World of Warcraft. I like that I can put it down and forget about it then remember it and come back and play and fully enjoy it.
Oliver apologizes for the sheer amount of "uhm"s in this video. He's not getting any tea for the rest of the week as punishment for this transgression.
I say he needs more tea! even though Oliver has all the charm he needs maybe some Brew of Unyielding Charm could take care of those 'uhm's. It certainly helps my more technological travelers break through the 'uhm's of their ever solving mind.
I also really like how down to earth and human-to-human this qna was. it's not polished hyper professional, it's just a snip of your wonderful team speaking their mind and showing a perspective
Thank you very much for this! I think it would be a good thing to have a few more sessions like this from time to time, so we know whats up and how the game goes and improves in the future. Safe Travels!
Great to hear your and the rest of M&D's thoughts on the game and games in general. I hope you guys are all doing well and I'm super excited to see what's coming up this year for Book of Travels.
By far most immersive game in a long time. Game do not need to be advertised by bombastic intro or trailer. This is true gaming like it was before. Game is attractive by itself and you want it, at least i, to go and wander around to see what has to offer and discover it for yourself.
First off, I want to thank you for creating such an incredible game. 👏👏 I am already at 50 hours (just downloaded it 3 weeks ago), and I didn't even notice the time stacking. I actually like the event system. It is nice to see different things when I log in. I often play evening nights, so its nice when there are different things happening depending on the day of the week. The day time-locked- events also gives me incentive to log in during weekend mornings. What I find a tad annoying though is that it's always nighttime in-game when I play. I kinda want to see the daylight scenes every once in a while. Another thing is the short time-locked events. Like those which are Thursday mornings only. I hope the duration is longer, like all day on Thursdays, or mornings but everyday. A lot of people suggest making the day-night cycle shorter, but I actually think a longer cycle is better. Like 1 day in-game is 2 days in real-time. So when I log-in on Wednesday night, its morning. And then when I log in on Thursday night, it's nighttime. with shorter cycles, I might need to rush to places to catch in-game morning and evening events. I just want a relaxing stroll.
I have put the game down for a while since playing years ago, but recently life has become incredibly stressful and my mind has been wandering back to this game. Its truly something special and may be the relaxing experience i need right now. So thank you for continuing to improve the game and keeping the community on your mind!
Thank you very much for this really nice AMA session, it's a great idea and I would certainly love more of this :) Also, as I am currently 50+ hours into the game, thanks to the whole team and the studio in general for being brave enough to make such a special and magical game. I really enjoy my time in Braided Shore and had some really special moments with the game so far. Some hopefully constructive feedback: - The answers to some questions feel a little bit shallow. I understand that nobody wants to make false promises and give a wrong impression about future plans for the game or it's development state - but as a passionate fan and gamer I would really appreciate more transparency about the current state of some features. This could be a huge bridge towards the BoT community, I would love to see some behind the scenes insides, what issues you are tackeling atm, what bugs are bothering you and which prototype features are currently being tested out etc. I'm sure you know the documentary about the Broken Age game, I don't ask for transparency like that, but it certainly can be an inspiration for how players can be part of the development process. I feel like there's no necessity for being so vague with some of the answers. - I would have appreciated if a few more other members of the development team would have given you some additional answers / comments to some of the questions. I really appreciate your answers, but would have loved some other perspective on topics you don't have full inside. (how did you guys meet, influences, favorite bands, merch store etc.) - I really like the timelapse drawing shorts, please more of it. :) I noticed that no questions have been answered by people on the official TH-cam shorts of Book of Travels (as far as I seen it). Usually they get a few comments with 1-2 questions that could have really fast been answered. Small interactions like that would make the Studio feel more caring in the community i guess. :D Anyway, you're doing a great job, I really appreciate the AMA and everything else to come, thanks again to everyone involve on this wonderful project. May your tea never grow cold!
Just looked up Book of Travels and hearing FAQ and answers definetly made me hype up, I'm buying it in no time :D Speaking of a next Shelter "Pleeeease, pleeeease be Gibbons",I already saw games applying their mechanics... their lifes ar truly wild, but even some kind of bird (with their incredible vision) or reeeally small animal would be interesting to see (fucked up mechanics, scale up of things possibly making what were texture details into full-fledged polygons). LET'S SEE, just please be "fast" animals, so anyone who wants to go slow can while being fast remains an option.
Though I don't play as much as I used to, I love hearing updates on this game. And an 'Art of' book for this game would be really cool if there was ever the funding for it.
Even though English is not my native language, and that it is incredibly difficult for me, I try to immerse myself in this game no matter what! Thank you so much for the wonderful game, its soothing atmosphere and the peace it gives me at this difficult time for me🥰
I haven't had the chance to try the game myself yet, but its art and style of play captivates my interest. In open world game, I am always the one who goes among hills and valleys gathering plants, and go to towns in order to brew potions, having no interest in combat or domination. I hope your game offers the option of a travelling monk trader who resolves conflicts by cleverness, compassion and diplomacy rather than gun or knife, but who is master at unarmed fighting at a push. I hope that I can become one of your supporters one day. Does your story have an ending?
Hmmm, I can only assume that the question regarding Tea emote for BoT was not answered because you guys are all busy implementing it at the moment. 😉 Thank you all, for so many hours of serenity and beauty. When real life gets tough, the mists of Harrow Ledge or the lighthouse of Lakatos String are my escape plan.
Hi I have been trying to feed my character for a while. I have a few things in my backpack that marked edible however I'm not able to eat them.. any suggestions?
Man, an Opeth soundtrack for the game would be amazing, maybe for an area with caverns and dungeons! I'm sure you've seen live and listened to At The Gates and The Haunted since you're from Gothrnburg, soundtrack for my late teenage years, early 20s!🤘🏻
I have a weird comment that I don't want to sound disrespectful or flippant - I love nature and natural art and green is one of my favorite colors but I haven't been able to get past how much green there is on the screen at all times - like I said this is a weird comment I just never imagined too much green and too much nature would be a turn off - I had asked before but is there any chance of adding different kinds of flora that would introduce other colors which would lessen the amount of green and vary the color palette - thx and good luck
I feel like this game has been forgotten and that the devs are kind of annoyed that it didn’t sell well (even tho they made it hard to play anywhere but in front of a PC) . I remember seeing an update where they were complaining about sales and negative reviews from people saying the game has no content. I haven’t kept up with it since, so like is this game still a thing? Has part 1 even released? Seems like nobody knows what’s up.
Thankyou mightanddelight I appreciate this ❤❤❤❤❤ but remember how you made shelter badger game playable for android? Could you do the same for shelter 2 mountains playable for android please? I would really love that and I hope you read this message, thankyou
When will performance finally be fixed. The Artstyle is beautiful for itself. But is has been years since i watched People playing it and trying it for myself cause i already bought it a long time ago but i can´t bring myself to play it with such a bad performance. How can i be i can run Bannerlord on my Machine but this one got a worse performance. Its so dissapointing.
I feel like the questions were more intended for a developer and I actually was very interested to know when the game will leave early access but you basically skipped the question.

Lol he did great 🍵

Now that tea is definitely becoming iced :-P
Give Oliver some scotch that might help

May your tea never grow cold! 🍵
Never a bad day to hear a Swede ramble about bishops and Danes.
I love how you keep developing this. I want to play but I don't feel like I have the time to immerse myself and appreciate it. 😥
You're very welcome to Braided Shore when you have more time.
Even an hour or two a night or every other night is enough!
Thank you for taking the time to answer all these questions! :)
I would 100% purchase an art book for this game. The art style is what drew me to it to begin with!
Thank you very much for this!
I think it would be a good thing to have a few more sessions like this from time to time, so we know whats up and how the game goes and improves in the future.

I absolutely love book of travels, honestly never seen anything like it, can't wait for the next chapter!

I wish it were somehow Steam Deck compatible because it looks so relaxing. The letters would probably look tiny though.

Great band picks Oliver!! Larker was my go to pick from the start too.
Does this mean we're soulmates?

Book of Travels is currently Unsupported on Steam Deck. Are you working on making it Playable or Verified?
If I heard Åkerfeldt/Opeth in BoT my hype would power the entirety of the United States for several years.
Holy! 33 minutes, didn't expect that! :O
Opeth and Meshuggah
Hi I have been trying to feed my character for a while. I have a few things in my backpack that marked edible however I'm not able to eat them.. any suggestions?
I will put paperwork on the to-do list 😂😂

Right? Would be a dream come true to work with Åkerfeldt. As for At the Gates and Haunted, sure I've seen them, more than once.

This is the first time we've received this particular complaint but the game sure has a lot of green. I'll bring it to the team. ;)
I really really want to play this game I’ve been asking my mom for agessss
Any plans for a console release? PlayStation specifically?
just got 'early access'!
pleaseeee release a book of art on the game, id love to have it in my collection of art books
Nice and interesting !
can somebody give me a synopsis of the story? ty
Journey meets Elden Ring meets Animal Crossing is how I describe the game to others ^^u
Elden Ring is much more open world.

Woohooo!
will yall be using ai to develop the game? just curious since it's such a big topic now : (

it's not an "ama" if you curate the questions. Also, how did you not realise people were asking MaD these questions rather than just you?
I feel like the questions were more intended for a developer and I actually was very interested to know when the game will leave early access but you basically skipped the question.
i really really appreciate the community interaction - thank you and best of luck 💚
