      There's a very solid argument to be made how spacers will force bearings to line up much better with the truck axle and therefore spin faster with less resistance. Definitely a good idea to use spacers.

    Love this nerdy skateboard talk... this vid also makes me further skeptical about the bronson shieldless, I'm under the assumption that the shields are meant to hold the oil/lubricant you use after cleaning the bearings.

    • @NHSSkateDirect
      @NHSSkateDirect  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think the appeal of shieldless bearings is that you run them dry and can clean them more often. So its not really about keeping them lubricated. I think there's also a love for that sound of that dry spin.
      Sounds like I need to do some research and make a video about the benefits of the Bronson Raws. Thx!

    Someone told me if you get bones bearings the spacers that come with them are best matched with other bones wheels since the middle core is perfect size for those spacers. I put the one bearing on a spitfire FF and the spacer that came with my bones bearings to see the spacer would stick out and it kinda looked it did just a little but on the bones wheel it was a perfect fit. Do all spacers fit every wheel the same?

      Maybe try loosening the nuts a little so it's not too tight. There is a chance the spacers or the bearings may have been damaged when switching them in the wheels. They should be able to withstand the strain but sometimes completes don't have come with the best bearings. It's one of the things that allow a complete to less expensive than buying all the parts individually.

    Would really like to see all skate bearings tested scientifically instead of stories/anecdotal. Luckily I'm not sponsored so I'm free to do this. All it requires is skating same amount of time every week, test the bearings with multiple speed runs after 3 months or so. Will post results in a year or so.spacers/no spacers will do both. Probably 10-15 of my preferred bearings. If a reputable person did this it would turn the bearing industry upside down since theres probably $50 bearings that run similar to $15 ones just no one has even attempted to test this stuff smh

      @@franciscoramirez9867 I have been using spacers on only one set of wheels (55mm Oj Mini Super Juices) on and off and it makes a cool difference with either bearing. Landing gives you a better recovery and you feel more centered for better truck feel but I mainly speak free about traveling than tech. I prefer to not use spacers with harder wheelsfor tech since if the spacer is not the proper lenght in the wheels depth, it will cause early coning on the wheels thus making me needing to check on them regularly more. If the spacer is too long, the bearing will stick out further away from the wheel using the spacer as a center point to catch the bearing than the inner bearing roll cage but it may be worth the experience if you're really needing to save your bearings but ceramics were made to not need to worry as much in recovery points than just riding.

A spacer can, under no circumstance, transfer any force of any kind in the opposite direction of the vector, so you can imagine how much it will change. nothing.

    Bearings that roll faster depending on which way they are facing?? Yeah, sorry, but have to call bs on that. Physics literally doesn't work like that. No bearing is off balance by design along any axis. And most bearings will have one (more) open side that faces inwards only to prevent dirt from getting in there as easily. It has nothing to do with speed itself. The other factor that matters a lot is to get GOOD wheels. If a bearing doesn't sit flush with the actual wheel itself or has cores that are not straight, it will wobble a lot when spinning. Also, it is a very bad idea to sink in bearings by tightening the nut and getting it in that way. You're going to ruin the wheel, especially when they are softer or have like a plastic core for the bearing to sit in. Bad idea, because you're basically overtightening them before they get to where they should. It's also the best way to damage the shields directly. A better idea is to put your skateboard on the ground and use your upper body weight to get the bearing into the wheel. Unless you're a total gigant, you're not going to be able to damage the bearing that way, nor the wheel. Think of it like tightening a nut with your fingers, versus tightening it with a tool. It should be obvious which one is safer should you ever get the nut on poorly. The tool in that case is likely to destroy some threads. Last but not least, I'd say most bearings have best value when they are fairly cheap, well maintenanced and last a few months, versus buying the expensive ones that can and will break too. So don't fall for the whole 'expensive bearings are better' nonsense. 99% of the time the roads and dirt / gravel / mud pools etc. you ride on will define how long bearings last.
